Service on special days can be challenging. What made it memorable were the servers. My 10 year old grandson was with 3 generations of woman. A gentleman server said to my grandson, "Do you know that when a gentleman is at a meal with ladies, he pays the bill?' To which my grandson's eyes went wide-open and we played along, especially his 92 year old great grandmother. Then, when the bill arrived, our server, who had done a great job, placed the folder on his spot. When my grandson returned, the look on his face was priceless. He caught on immediately and we all laughed. The entrees (rainbow trout for my wife and walleye for me) were both outstanding. We each had a glass of two differing wines (4 varietals). Not just in St. Louis but Baltimore as well. I must say the food was delicious. My mom and I shared the shrimp kisses appetizer. Jumbo shrimp wrapped in bacon and pepper jack cheese flash fried. First time I'd ever had anything wrapped in bacon. The bacon was lean and not fatty at all. And it was just so so good. That includes the salad and the meal. We had to ask three times--the third time I actually had to go find a waiter to get it. Our own winter ignored us. When you have a long wait for food and you are really hungry, it makes the wait tolerable.

What we didn't expect was the attention to detail that came with the wonderful meal. In the comments portion of our reservation, we noted our special occasion: an engagement celebration! Not only were we congratulated by the reception staff but they had actually printed personalized menus to congratulate us. The shrimp kisses were an amazing appetizer and the chefs special moo fish was a very yummy entree, but the dessert took it all: a chocolate "bag" filled with berried and white chocolate mousse. It was a perfect pairing with Pinot noir! Well done McCormick & Schmick's! The only complaint was the fact that the waiter offered Bass as a Chef's special and then he had to come back later and say that the restaurant was out of Bass. Therefore, I was extremely pleased with the delicious meal we enjoyed on our first visit to McCormick & Schmicks! The seafood was excellent! Delicious, generous portions, prepared attractively, all was perfect! Drew was an attentive server who gave us lots of information about the menu items so we could make our selections. We enjoyed seared scallops, grilled salmon, crab stuffed shrimp, spring rolls, everything we ate was fixed to perfection, it really was.
