Diner Reviews
  • "We went on a Sunday evening with reservations for two - seated right on time. Good strong drinks. Calamari was delicious while Maine lobster bisque was too salty. Entrees of beef medallions/lobster tail and whole Maine lobster were both excellent. Unfortunately our waiter had told us that my entree did not come with veggies so I ordered the mashed potatoes with lobster. Entrees came with roasted potatoes so we had lots of potatoes to eat. Server should have been more aware or not intentionally steering us wrong to pad the bill...I hope it was the first. Both entrees were cooked perfectly and delicious. Surprise "Birthday" dessert was delicious also. Server was pleasant and engaging. Very nice and enjoyable overall."

  • "We were very disappointed in the food at McCormick and Schmick. We took our mother out for the evening in hopes of having a great meal. We had to ask for bread, the portions were small and the quality of the food was just ok. Our bill was 200$. We felt we could have gone to another restaurant and received a much better meal and experience for that price. We won' t go back."

  • "the steak is not fresh enough, and the lobster is extremely salty."

  • "Out of the only thing I wanted (live lobster) Lobster tail was tough and only half decent. Mussels were cold and not very tasty. Great service though."

  • "Pre-dinner mojitos and margarita flatbread were good, but the salmon in the seafood trio of salmon and 2 types of shrimp was melt-in-your-mouth sumptuous! Orzo was good. Too full for the shrimp stuffing and no room for dessert! Would eat here more often if the calorie counts were lower."

  • "My boyfriend and I go out to eat all the time. We got gift cards here so we thought we would go. I will never go back. It was disgusting. First of all it's not cheap. Our bill was $119 for both of us which we don't mind paying when the food is good but it wasn't. I got the sea bass and risoto. I needed a knife to cut my fish. That's not ok. And the risoto was over done and heavy. I could hardly eat my meal. My boyfriend got the cordia and crab. He could hardly eat it as well. This is supposed to be a seafood restaurant however they do not know how to cool seafood. We will never go back and neither should you. They city has many more amazing options!"

  • "This was our first time in Pittsburgh, I chose our dining destination on line when I saw that it was restaurant week. The menu selection looked good. The steak and lobster was my husband's meal. His steak was cold and not very flavorful, he said the lobster was delicious. I chose the scallops, which were pretty good, the green vegetable side was not good at all. My meal was very small, 4 scallops and some of the green veggie which I didn't eat. I didn't like that there wasn't a potato with it. I felt it was overpriced for the quality. Our server wasn't very good, he made several small mistakes for which he kept kindly apologizing. I don't think we were the only ones either, I heard him apologizing to the next table also!"

  • "My wife's steak and lobster was good....my grouper, less so. Perhaps it's not fair to expect good seafood in Pittsburgh though."

  • "We really like the seafood selections. The food, service and wine was was great. The seafood grill was awesome. It is a really nice chain restaurant to have in pittsburgh with consistency. The happy hour is also superb!!"

  • "Because I was treating 2 guests to dinner that night, I did not want them to think I had brought them to a bad restaurant, so I didn't say anything about the lobster tail I ordered, but it was not satisfactory to me. It was so tough and had no taste at all. I have eaten lobster tail at many other restaurants and it was never tough. My guests seemed to like their meal, so overall it the dinner was fine, but I was disappointed and will not return to your restaurant."

  • "I was on a business trip to Pittsburgh. My family is close by. We decided to pick a spot close for all of us to meet. All of us LOVE seafood. We had a reservation and were seated quickly. Our server was friendly. The food was terrific. We started with a shrimp appetizer (shrimp in bacon). It was very good. I had the halibut. The portion was right on the money for me. My sister and I had the chocolate bag. We should have shared one! Our server was attentive, but still managed to give us time to talk. I would tell my friends to give this place a try. (Parking nearby and an easy walk)."

  • "Good seafood, varied menu and reasonably priced. Service and food quality is consistent. Located in a vibrant section on the South Side. Parking is difficult on street, but there are indoor garages that are easy to access. Reservations on weekend are recommended, but during the week, I would take a chance."

  • "I had recently visited the downtown location and had a horrible experience which has kept me from returning (food and service). I had been to the South Side location previously and never had a bad experience, so I decided to give it another shot. I am glad I did! It was great. The food and service were wonderful! I think I will stick to the South Side location."

  • "McCormick & Schmick's in the South Side is the better of the two Pittsburgh restaurants. The fish and the seafood are fresh and well prepared. The service is very good. The desserts are excellent. We were surprised to see several empty stores in this once vibrant area of the South Side of Pittsburgh. Because this is a bar/restaurant scene area of town, the stores probably do not do as well as they would like here. There is convenient garage parking for the restaurant less than a block away."

  • "We made our reservations well in advance, specifically requesting a booth, and we were given the worst table in the house. Also, the service was spotty, and presented us the wrong check when we were ready to leave."

  • "Dined on a Tuesday evening so not a hectic weekend crowd. Wait staff was cordial and prompt. Waiter offered suggestions, was attentive and knew the menu well. Food was excellent...mussels were a little to big to be really tender, but clam chowder and halibut was outstanding. Would definitely recommend it for dinner out or group events. When making reservations, let them know if you are celebrating a birthday...nice surpise awaits you."

  • "Drinks took forever to get. The drink my daughter and I ordered had to be altered because they did not have the ingredients. Food took forever. Husbands entree was OK but steaks were not cooked to order and my whole plate was ice cold. Manager was accommodating and removed from the bill. So over priced for food and experience. Will not return."

  • "The food is good but it is not worth the price. Perhaps they should revisit their pricing compared to local restaurants..."

  • "No complaints at all on the food. We tried the lobster mashed potatoes for the first time and loved them. Our problem are the drinks. One time they are good, the next they are not. We ordered the $12.00 margarita's, not the happy hour ones and were very disappointed. We made a decision that was the last time we were ordering drinks there. We don't mind paying a higher price for drinks...but we expect them to be good. The glass was overfilled with ice, and the drinks were weak. We complained to the bartender and he basically told us that is how it is. We'll, if that is how it is we are done ordering drinks there. Too bad, because a couple times we ordered them they were as good as the ones we make at home."

  • "We loved the restaurant from the minute we walked in! Beautiful old building and the interior was spectacular. The food was excellent and served in a timely matter. The location of the restaurant is great because you can take a stroller around the neighborhood and shop or just take in the view down by the river."

  • "We wanted take the family somewhere special to celebrate our Son's College Graduation. We selected three restaurants and let him make the final decision. After reviewing all of the menus, he decided on McCormick & Schmick's South Side location. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The service was excellent as well as the food. Our waiter was very patient with us as some of us were having a difficult time making a decision from the wide variety of menu items. My son ordered the filet mignon cooked med rare. It was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. Two of us had the steak and lobster, also very well prepared. Our experience there made a special occasion even more special. We would definitely go back."

  • "Restaurant almost empty where there and still took inordinate time for food to arrive, some cold. Server John was horrible, inattentive...would never have him again. In such an upscale restaurant one expects excellent service."

  • "My wife and I went out for a special night, we were seated quickly upon arrival at a table by the window, we were a little early for our reservation (I do not think the reservation was necessary they were not crowded) The restaurant is on one of the main streets in the shopping area, at our window seat we could see EVERYTHING going by. My wife and I were dressed up, that was not needed. There were people dining in shorts. Our waitress was prompt and the service throughout the whole meal was great. The food was excellent and came out rather quickly. Our bill came to $90!! We did not even have any alcohol. We will not go back there are plenty of other places for a special night out that way nicer and less expensive!"

  • "Our dining experience was basically good. However, wait staff should know to remove extra place settings at the table when there are only two diners. Food was good but just a bit salty. You can always add salt but you can't take it out. Overall, the dining experience was good."

  • "For Father's Day, my wife treated me to a teriffic dinner at McCormick & Schmick's Southside restaurant. We each had a great appetizer (clam chowder & ceasar salad) followed by wonderful fish dinners. My wife also enjoyed a very good glass of wine. All in all, a great way to spend Father's Day!"

  • "Dining early on Father' Day (5:15) restaurant was busy but not noisy; that changed in 45 minutes as the noise went up several decibels. Decent food (chef specials are well worth the price); pricey wine list though. Natasha was a cheerful and helpful waitress. Unless you ask for a booth, you can be crammed in like a can of sardines. Probably a good choice for dining during the week."

  • " We ate early (around 4:30 on Sunday) and our server (Alex) was terrific. He made us aware of the new program being offered (which we jumped at) and he also told us about the restaurant's 35th anniversary. The anniversary menu was interesting. I liked the fact that there weren't too many choices. The anniversary bottle of wine for $35 was delightful. I had the salmon (grilled on a wood plank) which was excellent. It was accompanied by a serving of arugula and also by grilled veggies. The chocolate gluten-free cake(?) that I had for dessert was delicious. Kudos to the dessert chef! Alex was very personable and extremely attentive to our needs. Overall, our dinner was very pleasant and I look forward to our next dinner here."
