Diner Reviews
  • "This is a good seafood chain. My favorite is cedar plank salmon. Service was impeccable. We got fresh bread with our meal. Place is clean and you sit in booths. I frequent it often."

  • "I ate here with a friend who was in town visiting. Everything was very nice. Ashley was our server, she was clearly very busy but was still very attentive to us. She was knowledgeable about their menu and made good recommendations. I had the stuffed shrimp and my friend had the fish trio. My only complaint is that my entire plate of food was completely covered in oil and butter, which some people may like but was a bit much for me. Overall, everything was very nice. "

  • "There are two of these venues in Pittsburgh. Our experience this day was horrible. It started with the disappearing waiter. Forgot bread, didn't fill tea..he was nice just not there. Then, when your paying big buck for a meal, you expect your order to be right. I ordered a medium rare surf and turf. My steak ends up on my wife's plate...she hates bloody meat...I get her steak...I like more rare. Our veggies were COLD. I'm not just talking like a little warm..I'm talking cold. Then we leave...our waiters is out getting his smoke fix behind the location. Gee, I wonder where he was when we needed him. I don't know that I could go back. Not for what I am paying."

  • "It's probably not fair to compare McCormick and Schmick's to the likes of Capital Grille and Hyde Park, but for a little more $$ you can go 5 star and have the meal of your life elsewhere. I thought the quality was above average but not enough to give the place more than ~3.5 stars. The power went out as we were finishing our meal and for safety reasons they had to close the kitchen, so this may have had something to do with a very mediocre experience. Our waiter was friendly but I asked him for a refill on my water twice...and it never arrived. I had the swordfish and it was very, very good. My husband's ribeye was 'ok' as he put it. Lobster mashed potatoes very good, but the a la carte sides were not the caliber of other places!"

  • "My husband and I dined at McCormick & Schmick's on the South Side during a weekend getaway. Our meals (his was a steak/lobster combo, and mine was a platter including grilled shrimp, stuffed shrimp, salmon, and scallops) were excellent. Friends of ours joined us and enjoyed their meals as well. We did order dessert, and it was very good. My husband ordered the flourless chocolate cake, I got the red velvet cake, and our friends ordered a berry cobbler. All were delicious. Our meals were in the upper $20 range, so it was an expensive night out, but everything was great, and I would go back again. Our service was adequate. The waitress was attentive and polite, she was knowledgeable about the menu, and she checked on us regularly."

  • "We had a group of six for a celebration of a college event for my daughter: one senior, three in our fifties and two 20 year olds. Each of the six of us (a couple can be less than adventurous) found a seafood dish that sounded good and lived up to expectations. The variety of choices was outstanding and the wine list was both comprehensive and reasonable. Everyone had a great time."

  • "Celebrating a number of occasions that happened to coincide with a visit from my mother, five of us arrived somewhat late for our reservation but we're quickly shown to a table that, after a bit of quick thinking and some minor furniture reorganization on the host's part, suited us perfectly. The food was delicious, the ambiance was relaxing, and we had a wonderful time."

  • "Place was noisy, expected of a big chain restaurant. Service was very slow for our party of five and a child. One entry was incorrect and had to be replaced resulting in considerable wait for the diner. To restaurant's credit, they comped the entree. Waiter was very nice, and explained the menu well, but the specials mentioned were already on the menu. That was a bit strange, but when he tried to get me to purchase a restaurant club membership, I found this truly offensive. I wanted to enjoy my dinner, not listen to a sale's pitch. The fresh oysters were very good, but fried calimari was ordinary. Entries good, but not memorable. Seared fish a bit chewy. Wine list was overpriced. Free birthday cupcake was nice, but I won't return."

  • "The food has gone down-hill since I first visited this restaurant in other locales. The past 2 times I have been here have both been characterized by poor service and food that was either over or undercooked. Soggy green beans and cold mashed potatoes were on my plate with a mediocre prepared mahi mahi. Overall disappointing experience with the server as well. We had to wait for nearly 30 min before cocktails arrived. The only thing I enjoyed about my meal was the wedge salad."

  • "My wife and I enjoy a good piece of bread at dinner. Why restaurants serve sour dough bread is beyond me. It leaves a very sour taste in your mouth. A good piece of Italian bread or a good roll would be much more appreciated. I don't know why your establishment thinks all your patrons enjoy sour dough? The majority of people I speak to do not like sour dough. When serving a glass of wine, you should use a smaller wine glass. Filling a glass one third of the way looks very cheap. I think there were two shots of wine in the glass. Your restaurant makes out like a bandit with drinks. Try to fill the glass just a little bit more. That would be nice. Your ceasar salad dressing is a little bit too overwhelming. Cool it with the vinegar."

  • "We had to ask for everything .... refills, fresh ground pepper, etc. My guests enjoyed their meals. The clam chowder was outstanding. My meal was overcooked. I've been there several times in the last few months and I can say they are inconsistent. ... either great service and meal or not."

  • "This was our first time at this McCormick & Schmicks, the staff was pleasant and helpful the moment you walked in the door. Our waiter was VERY knowledgeable on the menu and explanation of the dishes. He made great suggestions and offered his take on the taste of the dish. We found this very helpful. The atmosphere is very nice and clean, dim lighting and intimate booth dining. (great place for a date) The prices were a little expensive but for the quality of food worth it. We definitely will be back and would suggest this to others."

  • "We loved our experience at McCormick & Schmick's! The service was awesome, Alex was our server, and he took the time to tell us all about the menu, and what the specials were. The atmosphere was great, we do eat early, our reservations were at 4:30 so it was very quiet. We will go back, and we will recommend this place to all our friends and family."

  • "Generally good. Waiter was very nice. Waiter's promotion of a points card for this chain of restaurants became annoying. Prices were on the high side. The food was good but no better than other fine dining establishments with lower prices and more unique food."

  • "We live in the way out suburbs, so we only get to eat here once a year. We always make it a special occasion and have never been disappointed. The servers are always friendly, professional and knowledgeable. The food is excellent. You must try the lobster bisque!! My Asian style shrimp were spicy hot and crunchy and both the stuffed salmon and cedar plank salmon were stars as well. Don't miss dessert if you have any room left over. The chocolate bag was a big hit. You even get to eat the bag! We ask for, and are always given, a quieter table. Very accommodating. We'll be back next year!"

  • "Server and setvice were great! Food left a lot to be desired. Two items on the menu we requested, they were out of. The lobster bisque soup was greasy with clumps of grease floating on top of it. My fish was swimming in oil/grease, and the vegetable was covered in it too. The coffee was cold. My husband and I had indigestion for 2 days. Will not recommend this place or ever return. It used to be the go to place for good food. Not any more!"

  • "I hate to complain on a platform such as this, with that being said time to go in. Everything was what I expected after being referred there by a very trustworthy Eat Outer. Up until the point where my waiter mike was to bring a drink to my table everything was fine. My date and I became invisible to mike, he walked past ignoring me, I even called his name out to my dates disliking. Lets just say after a half hour of finishing my meal still no mike. Had to send for mike via a passing by waitress, and he still returned without the drink, At which point I just Asked for the check. Tidbit; the manager came to my section and greeted every table except ours"

  • "Very pleasant lunch. Food was very good especially the appetizer of calamari. Service was technically good --server was punctual with items and didn't keep us waiting, but she was not very personable. She didn't engage in any conversation or show any warmth or desire to communicate with us. Her service was perfunctory. The other servers were very friendly and helpful with their customers while our server remained somewhat aloof and detached!"

  • "The service & the food were both good, but nothing you couldn't get elsewhere. The table we were sat at had a wobbly top on it, that shook any time either of us were the slightest bit heavy with one hand or another. The table itself was crammed between two other couples. We ordered stuffed salmon - mashed potatoes - green beans/carrots & trout - orzo - green beans/carrots. Our bill was around $85 & over $100 with tip. For a "upscale" meal/restaurant, that I drop $100 bill, I expect exceptional. Some of the cheaper vegetables you can buy, mashed potatoes & average fish? Really? We were very disappointed in a meal that was supposed to be wonderful! Would never recommend to anyone."

  • "I made a reservation through Open Table for 8:45pm. We were there 5 minutes before the reservation but like everybody else who had reservations I had to wait for a long time (~45 minutes in my case). There was not enough room for people who had to wait for their tables.. That made waiting much worse.. In my opinion, The restaurant was either heavily overbooked or the manager did not think of slow romantic dinner time for this special day (they treated it as a normal day). Anyway, food was still good. The manager offered free appetizers to compensate the bad experience (she is was a kind person, I do not want to criticize her here)"

  • "I dined here with my fiancé. The music was incredibly loud which made it difficult for us to hear our waiter, and difficult for him to hear our order. We both noted that it felt like we were in a nightclub. I was asked if I wanted soup or salad with my entree, which I assumed would be included in the cost of my entree, and I later learned was not (I paid $8 extra for a salad). The food was outstanding, though I was quite disappointed that main entrees did not come with any side dishes. Side dishes had to be ordered separately and started around $7-8 dollars. For the price of the entree I had hoped to get more than 4 pieces of broccoli with my meal, which I believe were just garnish. The wine list was longer than the list of meal choices."

  • "We will go back. Menu has improved with some subtle changes and better desserts. 2 or 3 appetizers better than one entree is my preference."
