Nothing much to complain about, but nothing to crow about either. The food was acceptable, well cooked fish and sides. Soup was very good. Service was a bit weak, but I think its because our server was new. She brought out the wrong fish for my wife, but the manager corrected it immediately when it was identified and was very nice and professional about it. My last meal here was better with some interesting sauces on the fish, but this time nothing was of note. Not sure its worth the price, but maybe the chef was off that day as it was a Sunday.

I know that McCormick and Schmicks is a chain, but that doesn't mean that the food needs to be sub-par. I had a piece of salmon. That's pretty standard fair. And something that a fish and seafood restaurant ought to be able to do well. But I must admit that it was awful. If the chef had tasted that entree before sending it out to my table, I doubt he would have sent it.

My only complaint w/this restaurant is with the final bill. Our waiter asked if we wanted to sign up for their "member card" or something. It costs $25 so he said he would ask his manager if he could knock off 2 separate items off the bill, totaling about $19, so we figured, that's fine. The waiter never comes back, the manager did and added the membership and only took of the cheaper item off the bill and charged the card w/out seeking our approval first- which I thought was very unprofessional and rude, especially considering that we already spent over $100. I wouldn't go back there just because of that. Seems like a very sketchy business practice. I understand all the restaurants are competing for signups, but that was not the way to go.

This visit to McCormick and Schmick's was disappointing. Our appetizer, calamari came with fried vegetables-carrots, jalapenos etc. Seemed that they wanted to "fill the plate.'' Portion sizes for the entrees were very small. As an example the "beef medallions" was ONE small filet sliced served with very salty spinach and mushrooms and 1/2 baked tomato. The N.Y. strip steak was requested with a parmesan crust and mashed potatoes. The parmesan crust looked like a potato pancake instead of the melted cheese on top of the steak. The mashed potatoes were instant. Our server was excellent and management came quickly to hear our issues - even though they denied the "instant" potatoes. We'd think twice about coming back.

Went here last night w my ma and husband for his bday dinner. Should have listened to previous reviews before making reservations Let's start w the good: 1 star bc it is so aesthetically appeasing. Beautiful decor and setup 1 star: half a star for the coconut shrimp apps Half a star for my pecan crusted tilapia Now the bad: took FOREVER for our apps to come out Then, even longer for our soups and salad to come out Then, the main entrees.... Mind you, it was a Wed night reservation w about 5 other tables dining. Maybe they only had one person in the kitchen last night. Won't be back :(

  • Good restaurant - bad parking
    OpenTable Diner Since 2010
    Dined on 9/20/2014
Food was good if slightly overpriced - i.e. most entrees around $23-33 and draft beer at about $6-7 per glass). HOWEVER, this restaurant is located in Old Orchard shopping center and parking is so bad at this location we will not go back to it. I was meeting a person and it took me 10 minutes driving around to find a parking spot and it took the person I was meeting over 25 minutes to use valet parking. While the restaurant had good food, the hassle of getting to it is just too much for the reward. Try one of its other branches but not this one.

I've been to several M & S restaurants in California. This was my first time here in the Chicago area and I was greatly pleased as usual. My request for the type and location of our table was perfect. our server was excellent, the martinis were terrific and the food was cooked exactly as requested, which can be difficult when my date requests a medium well Filet Mignon (I know, I know, how sinful)... great place, great time and thanks for a fabulous evening.

Loud, poor service and overly salty food. That is once you get in... It's odd that I had to fight to get a table, when calling directly I was told the restaurant was sold out till 9:30, but I got a prime time table as soon as I tried Open Table. Why would the restaurant not even recommend trying Open Table? Why would they not even make the effort? Also wine bottles are marked up more than 300% - almost criminal. Also making kids wait almost 15 minutes for ketchup upsets everyone (parents included).

Although on the pricey side, McCormick & Schmick excels at serving tasty, quality fish entrees so the value for your dollar is good. Appetizers, sides, and desserts are equally delicious as are the steaks if you fancy a meat or combo steak/fish dish. My only disappointment was the bland bread. If the restaurant is listening, I would recommend substituting a French bread loaf and/or rolls.

We've been visiting this M&S for years, and sometimes we forget how fresh and well prepared the seafood is! The evening featured a special of grilled lake trout, served over Mediterranean couscous, with mushrooms and asparagus, and it was an excellent preparation. The fish was fresh and tasty, the couscous perfectly done, and the vegetables flavorful. The service was excellent, and the bartender made a proper negroni! All in all, a good evening out.

We dine at McCormick and Schmick's several times a year. The food is always very good and the offerings are creative. I was hoping to eat outside but was out-voted. The patio is right next to the drive and parking lot but I think they did a nice job with the plants to divide the patio from this. The only thing that was not so great this time was the service from our waiter....

My husband brought me here for my birthday dinner and we really enjoyed it. We shared the chopped chicken salad for an appetizer and he had the ribeye while I had the mixed grill seafood entrée. His steak was cooked to perfection, and my mixed grill was a nice mix of shrimp, scallops and salmon, sure to please any seafood lover. We got the lobster mashed potatoes to share and with my vegetable medley we had a great variety of food to share. Everything was made to order and delicious!!

Not as good as it used to be! They have been bought out and it shows that they are now part of a big company. Portions are smaller and prices are higher. Not as many fresh fish options that are unique like they used to. Menu is much more mainstream. Will probably not return.

The food is good and a variety of seafood selections are available. But for the cost being mid-$20s for an entree, the portions were smaller than most competitors plates. That would be fine if they had great service, but I just didn't experience that. After being initially seated and orders taken, the team of wait staff didn't check in to see how the meal was and we had to flag down wait staff several times. I think this place wants to be a nice restaurant, but doesn't act like one. This is probably why all of the other restaurants around them did not have availability for reservations on a Saturday between 5:30 and 8pm, while this one had all times wide open.

8/29/14 The highlight of our recent dinner at MS was the crabcake appetizer! It was full of crab meat and flavor. We also enjoyed 1/2 dozen oysters as a starter which were excellent. My entree was the filet and lobster special which was cooked perfectly. My husband ordered the shrimp and andouille mac n cheese which was just ok. We would defiinitely return for the crabcakes and will consider them for our entrees.

I have not been here for a while, but came for my Mother-in-law's birthday with a large family group. There are not a lot of seafood restuarants that offer the variety of fresh fish as does McCormick & Schmick's, and can accomodate a large group on short notice. Even the kid's menu has alot of variety. I was impressed with the improvement in the taste of the food and the quality of the service. In the past we have sent food back to the kitchen due to problems, but this time everything was served hot, timely, tasty, and as ordered. I look forward to returning and using the Landry's Select Club points I earned.

Service:2 I do not appreciate my server tapping on the table to talk to us. Even though he was checking to see if we needed anything. This is not the restaurant for this service. Giving him 2 stars because he was attentive and checked on us many times. 1 of the 3 oysters I had was bad. I didn't want anything else, and I was charged for it!!! Had to shove a big piece of bread in my mouth n lots of water n lemon to get rid of the fishy taste from the bad oyster. Taste of food:1 My Parmesan flounder was blah! Picked out the cheese crust. The veg that came on the side is the same as my daughter's order. It felt like chinese buffet stir fry that they just scooped out onto each plate. Grilled salmon over mashed potato was tasteless.

McCormick & Schmick is a reliably good seafood restaurant, with plenty of options for seafood lovers and for those who prefer something else. They are very cooperative about adapting dishes to meet special dietary needs or allergies, and everything is tasty and attractively plated. A good option for light or heavy lunch as your prefer -- but not a place to be if you are in a rush.

Good restaurant chain with nice 1000 point option. Food is excellent. Wine list is a landrys list so you know it's good. Excellent job to the staff overall. Felt welcome and enjoyed a nice meal. Was only disappointed when the server charged me for a substitute item when he didn't tell me there would be a charge. Ended up adding like $7-8 to the bill but it wasn't THAT big of a deal overall, just annoying.
