Diner Reviews
  • "We reserved a table late notice on a Saturday night on an overnight stay in San Jose. The restaurant was crowded (good sign) but not packed. The food was incredible. There were 3 of us and we all ordered a fish dish and all were amazing, well presented and very flavorful."

  • "The BC oysters were just GREAT. Will come back for more."

  • "Paid a hefty amount for diner quality food. Made a reservation through Open Table. Was seated in the back by the kitchen. Crashing plates throughout the meal. Other tables were open, but we didn't move. I regretted it by the time we were finishing our appetizers. Fun area of San Jose, but there are better choices out there!! Think twice before paying for this meal!"

  • "Went with my husband for our anniversary. I had the blackened rockfish. It was great! Moist and spicy. with mashed potatoes and perfectly cooked broccolini. Chocolate lava cake was good, but would have been better if warmed. Service was great."

  • "Very friendly, attentive and accommodating staff. The Calamari "Fritto Misto" was delicious but my Seafood Linguini was disappointingly bland. My husband liked his Dry Rubbed Black Angus Ribeye Steak. We ordered to-go, as well, and my son thought the American Kobe Style Burger was very tasty."

  • "I was lured in by an email for a CHEF’S EXCLUSIVE price fixed menu since my husband and I were going to see a play at the SJ Rep. Food reminded us what is served at a nice wedding banquet - sitting on a warmer for awhile, all bland, nothing special or exclusive about it. My fish appeared to have a nice salsa, but there was NO flavor. The seating felt more like we were in a cafeteria, the tables are very close to each other and it is hard to get around the dining area. Simply not what I was expecting from a 4* restaurant. We will not go here again. Our server was fine."

  • "We chose the set menu, but found that it wasn't the savig we were hoping for and the set food was not that great. This is a shame as I consistently have a great dinning experience, when ordering from the main menu. Note to self: Dont do that again. Note to restaurant: Loose the set menu."

  • "My wife and I celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary at the restaurant. Like many times before, we enjoyed wonderful service, from our hosts, to our wait staff. The food was excellent: Chilean Sea bass, Steak Medallions with shrimp. We were treated with an extra Chocolate Mountain Cake dessert to top off our evening. A great prelude to our next destination, the Shark Tank!"

  • "My family made reservations for a birthday dinner. We were seated at a table with way too many chairs in an awkward spot. Our server was very abrupt and irritated from the moment he joined us. We have a tradition to do a family dinner here and now it is broken. When we referred to an order we usually enjoy, he resolved that we were wrong and that the item has never existed on the menu in the past 4 years he has been working here. Our waiter did not make any attempt at eye contact or even trying to smile. Instead of feeling joyous about a celebration and ambiance, we left in a rush feeling unwelcome and bothered. Maybe a quiet dinner at home would have been a better idea."

  • "being taken over by whoever owns Joe Morton's. I had head stories that the food had declined since the takeover but I am happy to say the food was very good, much on a par with their food before the takeover. Service, however was slower than usual, so while it was still polished, it took a l o n g time for our waiter to take our order. But I enjoyed myself and so did my companion."

  • "I really liked how they put they typed out "Happy Birthday ____" on the menu for the table. Awesome!"

  • "I frankly was not expecting the food to be outstanding. Given that this is a chain restaurant, I can only say that somebody has put together a very special menu. There were three in our party and each was absolutely delighted with their entrées. I ordered a wedge salad and (admittedly not a gourmet item) but it was the best exemplar I had ever had of this comfort food. But the other items were absolutely delicious, the service was attentive but not intrusive, and the surroundings were elegant and comfortable. The final comment was the bill came to $50 less than I expected. Whoa, indeed."

  • "I celebrated my birthday here Friday night. The sizzling salmon with Asian sauce was outstanding; I especially liked the bed of vegetables (broccolini and assorted mushrooms) they did for me. The chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream and Heath Bar crunch was a treat. My girlfriend said her scallops were wonderful as was her Kahlua Chocolate Cake. The only dish that fell down was the calamari starter we shared--it was mixed with other veges such as fried artichoke, zucchini, etc. It was not the best we have tasted before--not a generous portion, oily and we could have done without the other veges. The rest of the meal was quite delicious!"

  • "I was very impressed with the restaurant, the service was great, our reservation was a little late but it was busy so that didn't matter. I had planned a date night with my wife for our anniversary. I had a Rib Eye that was perfect, along with some veggies, my wife had some white fish as veggies, a few Cosmo's for here and two glasses of Mer for myself, they gave us a special desert that was great. The night turned out just as I planned, thank you so much for making that night so special. We plan to return very soon, I think we found a new special place to dine."

  • "We were there for my husbands birthday lunch. The name on the menu was a nice touch. The food was great and even our 3 teenagers loved it."

  • "My husband and I had a late Saturday lunch here. The portions were large. My husband had a generous amount of fish & chips. He said they were good. I ordered the Sole in a Crispy Panko Crust with orzo & broccolini. There were two pieces of fish. It all tasted very good. The bread was served cold. It would be nice if it was warmed. It was 3pm on Saturday so the restaurant was very quiet. Service was okay. I would go back if I wanted fish for lunch or dinner."

  • "The service was excellent and the waitress was very knowledgable. The food was delicious and cooked perfect. The dessert was so rich in flavor and paired with the right wine made it fabulous. Definitely would recommend again for a special ocassion."

  • "My husband and I enjoyed our belated Valentine's Day with good quality food. The service was great and we did not feel rushed. I have told my friend about our great experience. We will be seeing you soon. Cheers, Ester"

  • "The waitress who helped us was very nice, She seemed new. Our dinner took almost an hour & half to get to us. I ordered fish & chips and my meal was not hot at all, it was warm almost soggy. She did ask how my food was, but by that time, I was ready to go. We used gift cards we received and I was glad we had them because I would have not paid full price. Everyone else's food was ok. I do appreciate them coming around & making sure our water was filled. :)"

  • "We have been coming to McCormick and Schmick for a long time. Love the atmosphere, and the menu, which is changed often, is always good. Usually we have very good service, this time we waited quite a while before he came. Fortunately I think it was the manager, got us our drinks, than everything came together and we had a lovely meal. We both ordered the Steak and Lobster that was a President's Day special. Perfect portions, and done well. I would always recommend McCormick and Schmick."

  • "Had heard about the restaurant and was excited to try it. Was disappointed in the quantity of food compared to the price we paid. Found a hair in the butter. Manager took our drinks off our bill. Won't be back again"

  • "Nothing special: interior was nice, but I found it unsuitable for a private conversation or a special occasion. The big disappointment was the food - not what I expected for the price. I only booked a table there because I've dined at other locations and had a good experience."

  • "The service was decent, but the food really fails the waitstaff. Wife ordered the salmon which was dry, rough, and overcooked. I ordered the filet which was under seasoned and had an odd texture. To top it off the veggies that accompanied the filet were borderline cold. I have frequented other McCormick's in the past and this was by far the worst meal I have had at any of their locations. If you are staying at the Fairmont eat at The Grill, just across the walkway. I realize this was a busy weekend, but it shouldn't be used as an excuse for the mistakes that were made."

  • "If you're looking for a great meal, reasonably priced and quiet, than McCormick & Schmick's is that place!"
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "Unfortunately, I can't give McCormick and Schmick's a great review. They were playing very irritating music, elevator quality pop, in the background and it didn't lend anything to the atmosphere, just got on our nerves. The waitress, who was very sweet, was very slow in getting our drink orders to us...both the pre-dinner cocktails and the dinner wine. The food was pretty good, but not great. We probably won't go back."

  • "I thought it would be a lot better. But the seafood was like, meh. The creme brulee was awesome and our server was great. But the fish was dry and I thought it could have been much better."

  • "Overall, the food was decent but nothing was consistent during the dinner. The tables were crammed into the interior of the restaurant, waiters and guests were squeezing behind the chair of one of my guests the entire meal. We commented to the manager about this and he said it was fine. One of my guests asked for a boiled piece of fish and when it arrived it had clearly been grilled. The waitress said it was boiled and no one would admit the error so my friend just gave up and ate it. I asked for a cup of coffee after my meal and it was just horrible - it didn't taste like coffee, beyond bitter. I never drank the coffee but the waitress didn't notice and by that time we had to leave to get to the theater so we just paid the bill and left."

  • "I had been to the SF location but not to this San Jose restaurant. We arrived early and we're seated promptly. The raw oysters were excellent, along with the Caesar salads. Our main courses were good, especially the seared Chilean sea bass. The sole was pretty good, but slightly overlooked. Overall, the restaurant was nice but the pace in getting our main course seemed a bit slow. We finished dinner in slightly over 2 hours and we did not have dessert. I felt that the quality of the food was very high and I would consider going back."
