Food is always very good; service ranges from poor to fair. This time our server was pleasant and attentive, but it took FOREVER to get the check! If you like really fresh seafood, well prepared, this is an excellent place to go. The chef does a wonderful job of pairing sauces and accompaniments to the various fresh seafood choices. Wine list is decent, and desserts are yummy. And if you're a veteran, this is a GREAT place to go on the Sunday before Veteran's Day, when they give all vets a free meal. I'm willing to occasionally put up with hit or miss service, so I'll be back.

I thought the service was good, guy was nice and attentive. Although for the amount of food that you get it is expensive. If you are really hungry this is not the place to go to unless you are willing to spend at least $100. It was a nice experience for our first time but won't be going back simply because of price of food was just too expensive for very little amount and my roasted potatoes were actually burnt and black.

We were celebrating our wedding anniversary. They were welcoming when we walked in. The service was WONDERFUL!!! The food was great and they really made us feel special which made our night even more special. The even created a special version of their menu that said "Happy Anniversary" on the top! This place is definitely going to the top of my list!!!

We had dinner before the San Jose Sharks game. Long time residents of San Jose we have yet to eat here. We choose the bacon wrapped prawns and some oysters on the half shell, both were amazing. Dinner, was filet w/ lobster tail (chef accommodated my husbands request, thank you) and the sesame ahi steak. Both were perfect. Wait staff was happy & accomidating.

This is an upscale chain restaurant. I think it satisfies but at a higher cost than the food warrants. The location is amazing, but food was a little greasy. If in San Jose, can recommend but better on expense account.

  • GREAT service despite marathon day

We went on a Rock and Roll 1/2 marathon day when the restaurant was set aside for race VIP's only. After presenting ourselves for the reservation at 11:30 for a birthday celebration we were met with blank looks and to burly security guards telling us we needed wristbands for entrance. A subsequent response and apologies by the store manager allowed us and our late arriving guests to congregate in a small dining room for our celebration. Food was predictably good at the franchise steakhouse and the service was excellent. We will, likely return but be more cautious in selecting our dates!

You can always count on McCormick & Schmick for first class service and deliciously prepared food. I'm not a wine drinker so can not comment on the wine list. The menu always has nice seasonal specialities, varying house specialities as well as basics (e.g. plain grilled fish). Have eaten here many times and never been disappointed. The restaurant was quite busy but we were seated in the back (banquet?) room so the noise level did not affect us.

The service was outstanding as was the food. The wine list is good and has a range of prices so that there is something for everyone on the list. The calamari was the freshest we've had in a long time. Our entrees were very good & reasonably priced. The restaurant wasn't filled to capacity so the noise level wasn't fine. They have booths if you want a romantic dinner, which is very nice. We will definitely go back.

Where do begin??? We were welcomed with a warm hospital greeting as we walked in the door. Our waiter, Daniel, was fantastic!! He was kind, knowledgeable of the menu, & paid great detail to us. The food from the kitchen was hands down the BEST FOOD in San Jose! The presentation was pristine and the food came out in a perfect timely manner. The ombieance was impeccable with a modern up beat lounge music in a classy setting, it truly made for a perfect evening for us!! We give Mc Cormick & Schmick's 5 stars all around!! Thank you to all the staff from front of the house to the kitchen, even the management for making our evening a beautiful night to remember.

We had the coast-to-coast tuna starter: fresh and tasty; the tartar needed some more pizzazz. Sole: good, nice presentation. Trilogy of shrimps: an interesting selection of different styles, with a nice accompaniment of butternut squash orzo. Good service, dining room not too loud.

I went to the first one of these restaurants when they opened in Portland, Oregon, many years ago and the food was great. Years later, as one would suspect, as it got more popular and sought to expand, then, ultimately, sell to a larger organization, the food quality has declined substantially; It is now one step above the Applebees of the world, as the prices are still quite daunting for the quality of the food. Just not up to par, so I was disappointed. The atmosphere, service and decor are still first rate, but I would stick to the cheapest item on the menu over a business lunch and would not bother with a family outing as it would be too costly. No real value here.

Spinach mushroom side dish a mound of vinegar mush, crunchy butternut squash in orzo, instant mashed potatoes, key lime pie had cheesecake texture and topped with vanilla sorbet?! Chocolate "bag" with mouse that was melted at top, frozen at bottom, grainy in consistency. Music too loud and and unpleasant. Service was excellent but couldn't overcome the average seafood and and the rest of my terrible $100 dollar meal. Sent back the food and they returned it cold.....

This is probably the 4th or 5th time I've dined here and every time has been excellent. The food is very, very well prepared, the plate is visually and aromatically appealing and the preparation nicely thought out. Service is impeccable - our waiter was charming, knowledgable, and very responsive without being hovering. Always a great experience.

I heard good things about this restaurant and decided to celebrate my mothers 75th birthday there. Not a good choice. Portions of food are like being on a weight watcher diet. Waited over 1/2 an hour for food to arrive and our server was MIA half the time. Very disappointing.......

Went for dinner on my birthday. I had steak & lobster with a Caesar salad. The salad was good. It had the taste of anchovy paste like it is supposed to. Lobster and Steak were small. Steak was good, but only about 4 oz. with its own sauce. Lobster was raw. It looked like it was heated for a few minutes on a flat top. My wife order the special combo meal. Salmon on pasta. Salmon a little dry, but she liked the pasta and dessert. Bread was very good. Service was excellent. Reservation system worked well. It seemed to take forever to get our food even though it wasn't busy. I'm going back to give them another shot, but for these prices, I am expecting more.

Our party of 7 arrived and had to ask for the brunch menu. On the menu it says they have specialty drinks, but when 1 of them was ordered they were out of the juice for it. 5 of us had Bloody Mary's and it said to choose 4 of the listed garnishes for it. Of the list they were out of celery, dill pickles, green beans, and olives with bleu cheese. The entrees were small in portion, especially the salmon. The O'Brien potatoes were bland and not amount of salt and pepper made them taste better. When ordering the Salmon Fatada we expected the salmon to be in the fatada. For a downtown eatery to post their brunch and not be able to produce the items is a disgrace and they should stop promoting brunch! #2 above does not apply!

Recently tried M&S on a Saturday evening. Appetizers were good (Tampico shrimp and Lump crab tower), but just short of great. Our table ordered the Blackened Rockfish, Cashew Crusted Tilapia, and the Ribeye. Everyone loved their dishes, but the star of the meal was the Lobster Bisque! So rich and decadent with lots of lobster chunks and crunchy croutons - Yum. The deserts were also excellent - Upside Down Apple Pie and the Heath Bar Brownie which were shared amongst us. Our server was excellent - very attentive and informative, but not hovering. She also made excellent recommendations for wine pairings. Dinner was about $100 per person before tip, but that included cocktails and wine, appetizers and desert.

This used to be a go to spot for our family, but not anymore. Last two times we've eaten here were very disappointing. The seared Ahi was rubbery (not sure how you get an ahi like that?) and my crab cakes were tasteless. My wife's scallops were ok, but nothing to write home about or justify the prices they charge at this restaurant. I doubt I'll be going back anytime soon. Cost doesn't justify quality of the meal.

Both the service and the food did not disappoint. The clam chowder was good, a bit different than the usual. Not sure if I can describe it, perhaps a hint of rosemary? But very tasty! The filet mignon was outstanding. Maybe just a scooch dry, but had excellent flavor. Cinnamon ice cream for dessert was delicious. Our waiter was very nice and attentive. Overall, we enjoyed our dining experience very much!

I must preface my review by saying that this was my first experience at McCormick & Schmick's. I might try it in the future to give it a second chance. I ordered the Almond Crusted Tilapia with couscous and brandy butter sauce. Because of the nature of tilapia, I don't think the combination is a good one. The result was greasy tilapia and couscous and it was rather tasteless. I forced myself to eat half the meal. I also noticed that the bottom of the tilapia was burned and difficult to cut through with a fork. We did finish our evening with dessert and I had the key lime pie. The pie tasted good but all of the fat in the dinner and pie did not settle well that night and the next day. I would suggest removing The tilapia from the menu.
