    We come to this particular location frequently before a theater night. The food is always well prepared, beautifully served and the wine list has something for everyone. With a special event in downtown Los Angeles, some streets were blocked and traffic was congested. We shuttle back to the theater after dinner and the normal exit was not available. The staff went above and beyond, waiting outside with us to get us to our shuttle in order to get to our theatre on time after dinner. Brilliant. Well done. Thank you!

    Staying in a hotel downtown and decided to give this location of the well-known restaurant a try. Service was outstanding with the manager coming by to welcome us. Whole staff seemed to really appreciate our business and very eager to please. Lobster salad was beautifully presented and a great value for the price. Generous amount of lobster and very fresh ingredients. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his mussels (said they were the perfect size so very tender) as well as his salad. Once we finished our main courses, our server told us to stay put as they were bringing us a free dessert. Comfortable surroundings with well-appointed dining room. Probably the nicest restaurant in the chain that I have had occasion to visit.

    Once we got there (about 40 minutes late) the food and service were both good. But, we drove around for 40 minutes trying to find the right place to park (US Bank ramp) to get a voucher for parking. It would be good to add detailed driving directions to the restaurant parking to the web site.

    Great food and service. Our waiter took note of my boyfriend's birthday on his I.D. (we ordered drinks). Later in the meal, he asked us if this was a special occasion. After I mentioned it was a birthday dinner, the waiter brought out a lava caka with ice cream!

    The setting reminds me of Europe especially the elevations and the sound of water. The stairway is certainly refreshing and upon entering the lobby is inviting. The staff are very courteous and amicable. One of my favorite restaurants in Los Angeles.

    Our reservation was for 6:15p.m. and we were seated at that time. We selected that time due to an Ahmansohn Theatre event beginning at 8:00p.m. Our orders were taken in a reasonable amount of time, and the food arrived with plenty of time for us to enjoy our meal. Things became sketchy when we ordered dessert and an after dinner drink. The dessert (sliced fresh strawberries) took longer than we expected to arrive. The after dinner drink nearly caused us to arrive late at the Ahmansohn Theatre. Our first choice, it turns out, was sold out, but it took the waiter an inordinate amount of time to discover that fact and let us know. The initial delay forced us to speed walk up Hope Street to make it to the theatre in time.

    This was my first time at the LA M&S being new to the area and a hug fan of the restaurant chain. Andre "Dre" our server was great, friendly and attentive. He made recommendations and suggestions based on his personal experience. . However, the food was not up to par compared to the other M&S's I frequent. My guest had the ribeye which had to be sent back twice. First it was over cooked, the second time the meat was too tought. However, I enjoyed the seabass even though I could not enjoy it as much as I would have like only as I waited until my guest entree was right.

    I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone at this point as I had a terrible service. The waitress was not attending to us properly and continued to apologize, but too slow and we had ask for water, bread, even for the menu many times. Took too long to get our food and I got in trouble for taking a longer lunch. I regret having gone there.

    I felt we were well accommodated for the evening and all our needs were met. They had our table set and ready for us and were very attentive to the fact that we had children in our group. Very well mannered children, I might add! It was the perfect end of our day day celebrating my husbands birthday. And if I may add, Open Table made it very easy to set up this reservation. Very impressed!

  • What's With the manager?
    Virgo
    Dined on 7/5/2014
    This is a great restaurant for food, and the waitstaff are excellent. But for the second time, I have had the manager make a (very lame) attempt to turn me away, possibly because I had a coupon for a special from Landry's Select Club. The first time he tried to tell me that the coupon didn't pertain to that branch, even though their address was on the e-mail. Then, last weekend, I went in with a "July 4th Weekend Special" on July 5, and his first words to me were "We aren't really open." And indeed there was a short staff, with one waiter working the bar, and there were (as there always are on weekends) quite a few customers dealing with slow service that was not the fault of the waiters, but of the management.

    Arrived for my 5:00 reservation on time, and was made to cool my heels in the lobby for ten minutes. The explanation was that only one server was on duty. I was offered to sit at the bar, but declined in favor of a table. The hostess eventually seated me in an area of the dining room where four other parties were already eating. ?? I'm still trying to understand the delay, when it wasn't because the place was busy.

    Like the History and Elegance of the buildings, McCormick Schmick in Downtown Los Angeles at the top of the long flight of steps across from the library, the experience here is upscale but not stuffy. Seafood is well prepared and fresh here, and all the food is well crafted... seasonal menus add variety to the solid standard menu, and selections of course vary dependent on the available product. Service is first class; always polite and professional, prompt & accurate. My waitperson knew my salad order even before I could get the request out of my mouth! The Star of the Show here is the location... the best of what Downtown LA has to offer. The interior is classic yet comfortable;

    This was our first visit to a McCormick & Schmick's and our first proper meal in LA, we were not disappointed. Although in the business/financial district it was noticed that we were dressed for dinner and not business and were treated as such being given a booth for privacy. The food and service were outstanding and would not hesitate to use M an S again especially this one. Dinner here is a must.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2006VIP
    Dined on 5/30/2014
    This must be a fine place to meet for happy hour, if you work in (or near) the building. This is not a destination restaurant. To be honest, this seemed more like a fancy (expensive) Sizzler or Red Lobster than it does a serious steak or seafood restaurant. The Chopped Salad was tasty, but the steaks were inadequate for the price. We dined before the symphony on a Friday night while many large, loud groups met after work. Drinks took too long to arrive and the servers were pleasant, but the restaurant was insufficiently staffed to properly handle the work required in a fine dining restaurant.
