Been several times for nice dinners, and used to be very good. Restaurant seemed surprised that people showed up, and 5 tables worth of people waited 15 min to be seated because no one was in the front of the house. Ordering took 15 minutes, bread never came. Entree was good, but substituted side request was ignored, and delivered only after we had finished eating. Had taken a friend for a birthday lunch. Not sure if this was a bad day, but left an awful impression.

We were very excited that a Mc&S was right across from our hotel because we have dined at this chain in other cities and loved it. We were very disappointed with our experience at this location. The empty restaurant on a Friday night should have warned me off. $30 for 4 scallops served cold. Because our server had not checked on us once during our meal, I had finished my salmon dinner completely before we could communicate that my husband's scallops were cold and inedible. Our server did give us new scallops, but there was no apology or price concession. The vegetables that accompanied my salmon tasted like they were heated in the microwave. This visit has made me doubt the quality control at the chain overall, and we will hesitate to return to another.

The food and service was awesome. The server did offer food that quickly upped the bill more than I expected. Salads were $8 and the lobster bisque was $13. Don't get me wrong, it had real lobster meat and was excellent, just did not expect our appetizers to add up to $42. This is definitely a place to go for a special occasion (like the free entrée on Veterans' Day).

Let me start by saying that I've been here once...so just a review of that single dining experience. Food was Superb! One of the better dinners I've had at a non-boutique restaurant - BUT.......I would have liked to enjoy it with the drinks I ordered to accompany the meal and desert. On the meal side, we ordered a bottle of wine to go with dinner, the meal was served, THEN we were informed that they were out of the wine requested. It was another 15 minutes before our re-order of drinks arrived - leaving us with eating dinner with water or eating it cold. Similar story for desert....desert arrived 5 minutes before the after-dinner drinks we ordered simultaneously arrived. Bottom Line - Great Food, Great Drinks - time management - NO

Once again the restaurant has done a great job of generously recognizing veterans through its special veteran's meals on the Sunday before Veterans Day. The food was excellent and the service outstanding. This was the second time that I have driven 90 miles from my home to have lunch at the restaurant on this special day. Having worked in DC for many years and eaten there on a number of occasions, they continue to offer the best food in the area. Thanks for honoring our veterans. Bravo Zulu.

A fellow veteran and myself decided to take advantage of the free Veterans day meal. The staff greeted us with warm welcomes and gratitude for our service. Our waiter, and I apologize for forgetting his name, was also a Veteran. He treated us very nicely, made some awesome suggestions when it came to appetizers and desserts and talked a little about his military experience. My friend and I are Navy Hospital Corpsman and our waiter was in the Marines. For those of you that don't know, Corpsman take care of Marines. We are considered their 'Docs.' It was nice to see the two militaries still working together. Thank you for a great Veterans Day!!

I had the worst dining experience than I have had in a long time. I had a 7:15 reservation and I was not seated until 7:45. Food did no arrive at the table until 8:45. We waited at our table for at least 15 minutes before someone came to greet us and take our order. The restaurant was not even busy, as there were plenty of open tables. My date and I saw two tables get up and walk out without ordering because they had been waiting so long for food or to even to be greeted. Once our food arrived, my dates food was lukewarm. When we mentioned this so the waiter he acted like he did not know what to do, however eventually he offered to bring more. The new asparagus was still cold. Something really needs to be done about the management, the servers, and the kitchen. McCormick used to be a very nice night out. Had I not expected even worse service for the manager I would have complained immediately, but after seeing another table complain and it go nowhere, I decided to keep my mouth shut for the moment. I will be writing a strongly worded e-mail.

It was definitely an off night for this restaurant. We were seated at 6:30 for our reservation, and I ordered a drink around 6:40...which didn't get delivered until around 7:35. I asked the waitress where it was around 7:00 and she said the bar was just really busy with Happy Hour. We ordered our food around 7:00, and it arrived around 7:35 as well. It was plated with sides that were not what the menu said it came with. We were not the only patrons experiencing this delay with service, either. My friend and I were getting nervous, because we had Caps tickets and the game started at 8pm. We asked for the check as soon as the food arrived, and we had to eat so quickly that we couldn't really enjoy it. And forget about dessert, which was too bad because I had been looking forward to trying the cinnamon ice cream.

Had a good time but the seating was very limited due possibly to lack of waitstaff. I am not sure but there was a entire section of the restaurant with only a couple people eating while the part we were in was packed. The servers seemed overwhelmed but they were nice and we got our food. I'd go back but perhaps try to do it on a night when the caps weren't playing.

Not sure if it was just an off night but the service was not up to par. I asked twice for lemon for my water and the waitress never brought it. I waited 20 min for my drink from the bar. Our waitress said the bar was crowed. I have been to this restaurant in the past and have always had excellent food and service so this may have been a bad night. Will try some other places in Penn Quarter before I return.

We have dined numerous times at McCormicks and Schmicks at various locations. This location is not run well. Our experience at other MC&S has been great, not this time. Our drinks took forever and the restaurant was not busy. There were only three people at the bar. My husbamd actually went to speak to the bartender to see if the drinks were coming. The andouille sausage was disguised hot dogs, the fried shrimp were tiny, unlike at the other locations. We had made these reservations considerably in advance and were seated at the kitchen service restaurant where it was extremely noisy. We would not go to this location again for dinner.

This is a downtown restaurant catering to late evening and after game diners. We were place in a side room and waited for over 25 minutes before I complained to the hostess that we had not even been given water. Soon the manager showed up, apologized, took our order, and someone else became overly solicitous for the rest of the evening. Very uncomfortable. No one really cared. I won't go back. Gene

I've always had good things to say about McCormick & Schmicks before this experience! Our table wasn't ready at the reservation time which would not have been a big deal except that the host seemed to forget about us. Then we finally got seated and the server came by said she would bring us water and menus. When we waited for more than 15 minutes and she never came back, we decided to leave. We had concert tickets nearby and didn't want to be late. So we opted for pizza and beer across the street where the service was great and we made it to the show!!!!!!

This restaurant is often chosen for our office lunches. While the service this time was a little subpar, the food never disappoints. The restaurant was fairly empty and yet, the service was rather slow and the waiter was not very attentive. All of the seafood dishes are excellently prepared. The chef even offered to prepare a separate dish of greens without meat for the vegetarian diner. All in all, it was a pleasant dining experience.

I have visited McCormick & Schmick's in Chicago and Minneapolis and have never been disappointed. The Washington DC location was a disappointment. I was entertaining customers with a party of 7. From the steak to the seafood dishes, all in our party were not satisfied with their meals. Although service was adequate, we did not receive "great" service that I feel an establishment such as this would deliver.

First tried to seat us at a table for 4 right next to the bus station when there were 20 empty tables. Then when the entrees came both ladies had ordered the flounder. One was golden brown, very nice. The other was black. When questioned the server said "I guess they just overcooked the cheese." My wife almost had to demand that he take it back. Another was prepared correctly and was very good. No offer of a glass of wine while she waited or anything. The check came and no adjustment was made or comp of a previous glass of wine. I have been to M&S in Reston and Tysons and other locations and have never had such inattention to the guest.

Service was horrible... It took two waiters, a manager and over 45 minutes to get drinks or an order taken. I love McCormick and Schmick's however; this one of the worest visit I have encountered. The only bright spot of this visit was the waitress in training: Ms. Amber. Amber was assiting her veteran employee; Mr. Shawn. Amber was more professional and attentive to our needs than the older employeee. Service was bad even though it was lunch time around 12:45pm there may have been only 9 tables being served; the restaurant was not crowded. Our order was taken and we received our salads and appetizers, however; it was approx. 15 min before we received our meal after the appetizers/salad. The waiting staff only checked on us once after our meal was served and our water glasses were not refilled until we were leaving when we asked for the bill.

It took 15 minutes to get a coffee latte, 30 minutes to get a glass of chardonnay, and even longer to realize that they didn't have all the ingredients to make 2 "hot apple pie" drinks that were prominently displayed on the drink menu. We sat there so long with nothing before us that four other servers asked if we had been waited on. Our waiter, apparently preoccupied elsewhere, and out of sight most of the time. He did not check to see if food had been delivered satisfactorily and even asked if we wanted to order appetizers after we had finished the ones previously ordered. We have taken friends to this restaurant a number of times before and the food and service has always been very good, but this time it was not a good experience.

I have eaten at McCormick & Schmick's all over the country and this was by far the worst experience I have ever had. Our server was inattentive, she completely forgot my chowder, and it took forever for her to check on our table. It took over an hour for our food to come to the table, I ordered the Shrimp Trilogy and it was lukewarm. I would have sent it back, but after taking an hour to come to the table, I was too hungry to wait. I see now why this place was half empty on a Saturday night, totally ruined our first night in D.C.

I am very familiar with the restaurant and menu but I was a first time visitor for the F Street location. I must say the service and energy from the servers were great. My food wasn't close to the best of what I have had, which is something I order the most stuffed Salmon w/ spinach instead of mixed veggies and mash potatoes. If it wasn't for the fact of one being my mother's birthday and two coming from a long day at work and being completely hungry I would have sent my food back and complained to the chief. My salmon tasted as something that I've ever had before and it left a very nasty taste in my mouth. I actually no longer plan to revisit the Fst location again, and probably will continue visiting Kst or the National Harbor locations.

The only reason that I gave an overall rating of very good is because my guests enjoyed their food and time in DC having dinner with me. I always seem to have bad luck at McCormick & Schmick's in the DC area. Our server seemed a bit lost when asked about certain menu items if not lost all together as we sat most of the night without a visit from our server (but she was there fast to bring the bill and retrieve our payment). If she would have come back more often to check on us, then I can guarantee we would have ordered another bottle of wine or two. The kitchen mgr. and bar mgr. need to have better communication with waitstaff to inform them of what food/wine items are available, etc. Then, the dessert took half an hour to come out.
