This restaurant is often chosen for our office lunches. While the service this time was a little subpar, the food never disappoints. The restaurant was fairly empty and yet, the service was rather slow and the waiter was not very attentive. All of the seafood dishes are excellently prepared. The chef even offered to prepare a separate dish of greens without meat for the vegetarian diner. All in all, it was a pleasant dining experience.

I have visited McCormick & Schmick's in Chicago and Minneapolis and have never been disappointed. The Washington DC location was a disappointment. I was entertaining customers with a party of 7. From the steak to the seafood dishes, all in our party were not satisfied with their meals. Although service was adequate, we did not receive "great" service that I feel an establishment such as this would deliver.

First tried to seat us at a table for 4 right next to the bus station when there were 20 empty tables. Then when the entrees came both ladies had ordered the flounder. One was golden brown, very nice. The other was black. When questioned the server said "I guess they just overcooked the cheese." My wife almost had to demand that he take it back. Another was prepared correctly and was very good. No offer of a glass of wine while she waited or anything. The check came and no adjustment was made or comp of a previous glass of wine. I have been to M&S in Reston and Tysons and other locations and have never had such inattention to the guest.

We have eaten at this chain many times but this was the first time in DC. The service was extremely slow. We finally had to ask the hostess if we had a server. When the entrees arrived it was as though they had been sitting out and the food was cold. It was not worth the cost for cold mediocre food.

Service was horrible... It took two waiters, a manager and over 45 minutes to get drinks or an order taken. We almost walked out, but last minute a wonderful waiter began serving us and all went smoothly after that... About 1 hour 15 minutes into our visit. Food was delicious, though, and we really enjoyed the atmosphere.

I love McCormick and Schmick's however; this one of the worest visit I have encountered. The only bright spot of this visit was the waitress in training: Ms. Amber. Amber was assiting her veteran employee; Mr. Shawn. Amber was more professional and attentive to our needs than the older employeee. Service was bad even though it was lunch time around 12:45pm there may have been only 9 tables being served; the restaurant was not crowded. Our order was taken and we received our salads and appetizers, however; it was approx. 15 min before we received our meal after the appetizers/salad. The waiting staff only checked on us once after our meal was served and our water glasses were not refilled until we were leaving when we asked for the bill.

It took 15 minutes to get a coffee latte, 30 minutes to get a glass of chardonnay, and even longer to realize that they didn't have all the ingredients to make 2 "hot apple pie" drinks that were prominently displayed on the drink menu. We sat there so long with nothing before us that four other servers asked if we had been waited on. Our waiter, apparently preoccupied elsewhere, and out of sight most of the time. He did not check to see if food had been delivered satisfactorily and even asked if we wanted to order appetizers after we had finished the ones previously ordered. We have taken friends to this restaurant a number of times before and the food and service has always been very good, but this time it was not a good experience.

I have eaten at McCormick & Schmick's all over the country and this was by far the worst experience I have ever had. Our server was inattentive, she completely forgot my chowder, and it took forever for her to check on our table. It took over an hour for our food to come to the table, I ordered the Shrimp Trilogy and it was lukewarm. I would have sent it back, but after taking an hour to come to the table, I was too hungry to wait. I see now why this place was half empty on a Saturday night, totally ruined our first night in D.C.

I am very familiar with the restaurant and menu but I was a first time visitor for the F Street location. I must say the service and energy from the servers were great. My food wasn't close to the best of what I have had, which is something I order the most stuffed Salmon w/ spinach instead of mixed veggies and mash potatoes. If it wasn't for the fact of one being my mother's birthday and two coming from a long day at work and being completely hungry I would have sent my food back and complained to the chief. My salmon tasted as something that I've ever had before and it left a very nasty taste in my mouth. I actually no longer plan to revisit the Fst location again, and probably will continue visiting Kst or the National Harbor locations.

The only reason that I gave an overall rating of very good is because my guests enjoyed their food and time in DC having dinner with me. I always seem to have bad luck at McCormick & Schmick's in the DC area. Our server seemed a bit lost when asked about certain menu items if not lost all together as we sat most of the night without a visit from our server (but she was there fast to bring the bill and retrieve our payment). If she would have come back more often to check on us, then I can guarantee we would have ordered another bottle of wine or two. The kitchen mgr. and bar mgr. need to have better communication with waitstaff to inform them of what food/wine items are available, etc. Then, the dessert took half an hour to come out.

Farewell dinner w/my 26 yr son .The food was the problem Son ordered ribeye steak $38.Arrived singed but utterly uncooked inside. He has never sent back a dish before but he was grossed out by raw meat. He sent it back instructing the kitchen to make medium. The shrimp was overcooked and chewy but I did not complain for fThe steak returnedd xhalfway thru my entre. The meat was still uncooked. The waiter did not wait to see the results. So my son hailed another waiter to take back the steak. Next the manager appeared to apologize. All she offered was a sad face. and apologized. My son was embarrassed by this entire situation.Steak returned for the 3rd time it was cooked but rather tough. The manager paid lip service to the problem.

Our lunchtime service was excellent, and M&S is quiet enough for a meeting, which is great and hard to find in DC. Sadly, the food was barely mediocre. I had a caesar salad with fried calamari. It was bland, underdressed, and the calamari was overcooked and dry. Inexplicably, the salad also included corn and a LOT of tempura vegetables (carrots, hot peppers, cauliflower, and I think broccoli.) Since tempura vegetables were not listed on the menu, it was a bit disconcerting. My dining companion had a cod sandwich that was uninspired; he said that the roll tasted like it came from Safeway. We used to love M&S, so this was a disappointment. The restaurant was largely empty, which in retrospect was not surprising.

I went to M&S with a 10 friends for a business dinner. First, we waited for 15 minutes for our drinks. Dinner was not served at once, they brought a few plates at a time and my order (the host) was not ready at all. Several people returned their food bc it was cold. Meanwhile, the drinks... another 15 minutes. No, we weren't ordering fresh made Mojitos with muddled mint. We requested simple drinks: Beer, Jack & Coke, wine. After spending over $700 we asked the host to call us 2 cabs, which they couldnt do either. The last round of drinks took so long, I walked up to the bar and took them myself and demanded the beer and wine and were missing from the order. Overall the kitchen and bar service was terrible. I expected much more.

Took our son and family to dinner because M&S is one of our favorite restaurants when we travel and at home in Austin. The steamed mussels were delicious, albeit small; Chincoteague Oysters were outstanding as were the Iceberg wedges, salmon, tilapia, flounder and strip filet. Lobster Bisque was great with lots of lobster. Great wine list and good choice of side dishes. Only disappointment was the service. Server kept forgetting things, i.e, one wedge salad, glass of milk for grandson, glasses of sherry after dinner and had to be reminded when we could locate her. All staff were extremely polite when they were available. Restaurant was not crowded, but it appeared staff spent a lot of time talking in the kitchen area.

Arrived 10 minutes before reservation time and were seated within 5 minutes. Food was good (with a little salt added) but there was a hold up on the stuffed shrimp. Was looking forward to lobster bisque since i had that at their Cincinatti location... but (although on the menu at this location...) they didn't have it available. I wanted sockeye salmon (also on menu), but again- they didn't have it available... i settled on a steak filet but that came to me on a virtually empty plate of the steak with 1/8 cup of some soggy veggies and a single grilled tomato plus the steak was not cooked to the temp i requested (wanted med well, got medium). The waiter left us with the dessert menu for nearly 10 minutes before getting us our checks (when we had told him no thanks on dessert to begin with, just the check please). To top it off, The bathroom toilets were clogged.

I love McCormick & Schmick's. I visit frequently and rarely have any issues. However, on August 19, 2014, I went to celebrate my birthday. We had a 6:30 reservation. They did not seat us until 7:30. The hostess gave a speech that was clearly written for her and she did not modify it although the questions I asked required a different response. She said, " our manager knows you have been waiting. They are making the rounds to apologize to our guest right now. The reason for the extended wait is to ensure we pride you with a great service". I asked how much longer and she gave the same response. I mentioned that I have not seen a manager and she have the same response. Once seated, the food was mediocre at best, the server slow... Worst ever!

This is the second M&S location I've tried and will never return to. I'm ready to give up on the entire chain. The food is decent and the servers were much nicer at this location than the other. But my guest and I were the only people in our section of the restaurant and we had to work to get any kind of attention from our server. I had to ask for every water refill, ask for bread, wave her down when there was a problem with the food. She was too busy talking to her friends or coworkers to do her job properly (but again, was very nice when we did interact with her). Regardless, I will not be returning.

The cocktails were perfect, with no need for explaining how to make them. My friends all declared their meals delicious and beautifully prepared. As a vegetarian, I try not to let my dietary preferences interfere with my meat-eating friends' dining choices, and I'm usually able to find enough on the menu to make a meal. In this case, pickings were slim, so I opted for the grilled asparagus and the pan roasted wild mushrooms. The Margherita Flat Bread I ordered turned out to be unavailable, so I asked for risotto. The mushrooms were delicious paired with the adequate risotto, but the asparagus was, shall we say, "mature." The Chocolate Bag for dessert was very tasty--almost as good as Isabella's on NYC's upper west side.

We went during restaurant week for lunch, and told the host that we were on a time crunch. My dining guest and I had the same lunch, shrimp scampi, salad for me, calamari for her, and both had the apple pie. After 1 hour, we had only received our salads. I complained to the manager was given a complimentary appetizer coupon with the purchase of an entree. Inasmuch as we had to wait an hour for just hour salad, to not make an adjustment on the current bill was bad management. I won't be going back any time soon. Contrast that experience to Georgia Brown's for dinner, which was packed to the hilt, but was one of the best dining experiences. There was no unusual wait for food, the staff was very attentive and I will be going back soon.

I have dine at this restaurant in the past and the service and portions have always been very good. Sad to say not this time. I realize that the restaurant and any business establishment "has" to make money, but on the same token a customer should get their money worth. We specifically told the hostess AND our waither that this was a birthday lunch and we had a timeframe. Even tho reservations were made for 12:00, we did not get seated until 12:10. The restaurant was NOT crowed. We ordered and the food did not arrive until 30-45 minutes later and the portions were unbelievable small. Not worth the price AT all althought the decrations on the plate were cute but NOT ediable. Bottom line I would recommend Legal Seafood instead.

Perhaps my expectations were too high for this well-known long-time establishment. Ambiance and service was lovely. Our waiter was knowledgeable. Three of us dined, each ordering a different meal: salmon, crab cakes and tilapia. All three were luke warm at best. Luke warm crab cakes are not appealing! Portions were small and we are not large eaters. We actually had to request bread twice to tide us over. Hopefully this was not representative of the establishment as a rule.

Our a birthday dinner was ruined by inattentiveness, apathy, forgetfulness and extraordinarily slow service! We received and finished our appetizer (missing 1 shrimp) 10 minutes BEFORE our drinks arrived. Our waitress (Melissa) disappeared, so we had to ask a manager for bread (tables seated after us had bread). We informed the manager of our slow service. When the manager inquired about our entrees, we asked her to cancel the soup our server forgot to bring. When our server arrived 10 minutes later to inquire about our food, she brought the soup. It then took our server 20 minutes to return our credit cards after we chased her down for the bill! The manager never apologized for our horrible service.
