Diner Reviews
  • "Went here for lunch. A bit more expensive than most restaurant choices in the area, but considering it's seafood in Pittsburgh, that's somewhat expected. Overall, it was a decent lunch, though the service was a bit slow."

  • "The food is always good. Love the Tilapia. The best lemon drop martini. The downtown restaurant is a bit pricey but great for a special evening."

  • "It was our family of four for my husbands birthday dinner. We enjoyed it very much. We ordered from the spring menu and all was delicious. Our cocktails were also very good. Service was enthusiastic and well versed with the menu, but it took a long time to get food and finally had to ask for bread while waiting. We were also disappointed by the quite petite cocktail servings and glasses of wine. All said, we had a good time, made good memories and would go back."

  • "This restaurant had some good food & I had the 3 course special for a reasonable price but otherwise it is greatly overpriced. I had to ask twice politely for the horrible music (see other reviews) to be turned down, but once in fact it was lowered I enjoyed my meal. It's close to the Omni Hotel which is a plus & the service for the most part was fairly attentive."

  • "We had a great waiter but service was slow due to his need to handle too many tables. This was problematic because we had an 8 pm performance to attend. The restaurant needs to improve its staffing to handle the pre-theater crowd."

  • "Outstanding service and always-excellent food makes this restaurant one of our favorites."

  • "Lobster Bisque was excellent. Lots of claw meat, perfect seasoning. Great scampi. Great service. Restaurant was a dimly lit, may be difficult for those with vision problems."

  • "we were entertaining clients. Our lat bread app was so soapy it was wet. The Mussels app. was very good. The main courses. 3 were good one was cold. We had waiter take it back..came out cold again. I"

  • "I've eaten at the other location but this is the most upscale. Surprised by the disco music playing but it was a really good experience. Bartender knows how to make a martini!."

  • "The food was incredible. The service was great and I loved that we were seated at a private table in a nook. The hostess took the time to wish us Happy anniversary when she seated us and our waiter gave detailed explanations on the dishes when we asked. Everything we ordered arrived exactly as described in the menu- no disappointing dishes at all."

  • "We always have an excellent meal and excellent service and love to sit in one of the cozy snugs. But the music is AWFUL. Even elevator music would be better than those noisy screamers that make it anything but conducive to dining. Who is their main clientele?"

  • "We frequently eat here when attending some cultural event downtown -- it is only 2-4 blocks away from just about everything. The menu offers a wide range of choices, the service always friendly, and the prices generally reasonable. recommendation: First, offer more wines at lower prices. As I remember little if anything was available at under 45 dollars -- which was more than most entrees. (Often the bottles are a good 4 times retail prices.) Second, the restaurant used to offer valet parking, which made it doubly convenient. They should bring that service back."

  • "Really very impressed. Excellent service and good food for the price. I had a large group and everyone was served quickly and together. This is a professional outfit"

  • "Supper was tasty but for almost $30.00 I would have expected more than just 4 scallops. Probably will never go back, and will defiantly let my friends known to beware of this issue."

  • "I loved having lunch here, but would love it more if you brought back the $10 lunches."

  • "Both the food and service were wonderful. There were three of us and we enjoyed the entire meal from the flatbread app to the dinner plate. We had a mix of seafood dishes. I had a trout with crabmeat dish that was super tasty. Only two negatives, neither of which would stop me from going again. One, I'm guessing in this part of the city it's dead unless there is sporting event. It was a nice night and we walked from our hotel but there just we're not many people out so that was a little disappointing to the overall experience. Secondly, the inside of the restaurant was a little beat up. I noticed a few water stains on the ceiling."

  • "My husband and I have been to this restaurant in Baltimore and loved the food. Unfortunately, we didn't have a very good experience in Pittsburgh. First my husband's fish was not cooked. He took and bite and it was raw inside. Then I went to eat my meal and my fish was also raw inside. They gave me a new meal and again the fish was not cooked on the inside. The waitress was very friendly and took my meal off the receipt and apologized. We were looking for a romantic evening with some good seafood and things just didn't turn out that way."

  • "I went here with my dad for lunch. I had the shrimp trilogy - delicious! He has oysters on the half shell and the lobster bisque. The oysters were good; however, the bisque was extremely salty. Our server (Linnie?) was made aware and she apologized. She also had the item removed from our bill as well as offering my dad some other soup if he wanted. He declined, but we were happy that the server seemed to care. The salty lobster bisque has not deterred us from ever returning. Everything else was great and the customer service was top notch."

  • "The food tasted great, but the entrée portion was small. The creme brulee was perfectly creamy and big. I wish they had one back home."
    Dined on 3/17/2014
  • "It has a great location for a meal prior to a theater event. The tables are very close together the dining is very elegant. Basically the fish was dry and tasteless. Fish is their specialty and it was not high quality as you would expect for the price."

  • "Went to the Downtown location for Valentine's Day Dinner, dinner was good, service was fine and the noise level was to be expected for a dinner date on that day."

  • "Usually love to dine here... Made my party wait to be seated and then server never filled beverages and were out of many of the courses after we had already ordered... Will def give it another go... First time had been disappointed here :/"

  • "The steelhead was done very nicely and the greens that came with it were quite tasty. Chopped salad was very nice, also. The perfect Manhattan was made perfectly. On the down side, the breaded shrimp were small and overcooked. We left our credit card in the folder on the table, but when we came back after the theater, the manager had the card waiting for us. Very nice!"

  • "I have eaten at M&S Boston many times and the prices are much more reasonably then in Pittsburgh. I ordered a Walnut salad was very good but the portion was small. Now for the entree Seared Ahi Tuna. $28!!! The tuna and accompaniments were lost on the plate. Where was the cucumber salad...it was a municule teaspoon dropped on the plate. There was a timbale of white rice stood out ...largest portion. A glass of Processeco $15...give me a break I could by a bottle fo much less than that. There are much better options for seafood or sushi at a much more reasonably cost. I walked out still hungry! I will Never Return !!!"

  • "The cocktails are fantastic. All made from scratch. That's the high point. The food is fine, but nothing overwhelming or particularly original. The service was fairly lacking. Despite being a Friday night during lent there was a pretty scant crowd, but we still waited a while for drinks and food. Our server seemed more interested in socializing than she was with taking care of her tables. Basically made the reservation because it was a 1000 point reservation, but I probably wouldn't dine here again without some incentive. Pretty pricey for pretty average food and sub par service."

  • "Our experience was just so-so. Service was not great. When we asked about specials we were pointed to two items on the printed menu. We overheard the waiter at the table behind us list quite a few specials we were not told about. My wife's fish was very good. My seared ahi tuna was not seared at all- just raw sushi. ( I like sushi but that's not what I wanted) The sides on my plate were awful. My martini was served in a brandy snifter because they ran out of glassware."

  • "came here because of close location to Cultural District. Easy walk to Bendum and Heinz Hall. Not as crowded and more open than the places along Penn Ave. Food was excellent and service was great. Very happy with the evening."

  • "Food was typical M&S. The sea scallops were really tasty but did not hold heat very long. Good wine list. Not busy and closed at 9:00. Fortunately, I was not headed to the bar for an after dinner drink."

  • "My husband and I enjoyed a long overdue date night. Had a great dinner and enjoyed a live show downtown Pittsburgh. All within walking distance."

  • "Excellent location for pre-theater dining. I was looking for a quiet dinner with my son, daughter and her college friends. This was our first visit to this restaurant. We arrived as the theater crowd was leaving. Service was fair, it took a long time to get bread but the water was refilled regularly. My son enjoyed his shrimp with grits and the calamari and coconut shrimp were good. The lobster bisque was heavy and over salted. All in all I would try this chain again."

  • "Tasteful atmosphere in the dining room. Very attractive interior. Spacious has lots of potential for various special functions. Food selection was geared for seafoods. Lovely fish selections. Birthday dinner was spectacular."

  • "It's nice to dine @ different spots before plays. Since we also had a birthday to celebrate, we wanted to make the evening even more special. The free birthday dessert offered was a treat but the entrees were just average. They were out of the first entrée a guest selected and the service was slow. The salads were served chilled & were very tasty & they had nice wine offerings. Prices were high for a dining experience that was just adequate."
