Diner Reviews
  • "Always have liked this place. Absolutely great staff and service. This time was a bit disappointing for me. I had Eggs Benedict. The eggs were way too done and the muffin was overdone and dried out. Sauce was good, sides were just okay. My husband had the Crab Eggs Benedict and he had no complaints. Our reservations were for 12:30 and no waiting. If I had been satisfied with my food I would have given it a 5."

  • "Sure we all look for something new or different, or a great chef who brings something really interesting to the table. But sometimes you just need a nice place that has a wide variety of food that will appeal to people from 7 to 70. That's why I picked McCormick and Schmick's. We had gone to fancier/trendier places when my mom was in town and she never really ended up liking them. Finally we learned to keep it more in the middle of the road, and this place delivers. It's nicer than your average chain, but with more accessible dishes for both the kids and the less adventurous adults. There is a lot of fish, and it's good, but also plenty of other choices. It's also more expensive than your average chain, but I think it's worth it. "

  • "The food was excellent; however, the presentation of the cedar planked salmon with broccoli was sub par. When we could not finish the iceberg wedge salad we asked the remainder to be boxed. It was, but then was brought back immediately to the table rather than kept refrigerated in the kitchen. We thought that very odd."

  • "Five of us blue hairs and grey beards had supper. Food was good, not sure it was worth the price. excellent service, because the place was quite empty. Manager stopped by to ensure we were satisfied with everything. First and likely only visit"

  • "This has become our favorite place for special occasions. They acknowledge the event when you are greeted and then they print the occasion on the menu, this time being for my wife's birthday. We got great attention and you could tell the employees took ownership in making sure we had a good time. The food was great."

  • "I was extremely disappointed when I found out that none of the fish offered on the menu were wild caught. Farm raised fish are cheap and lack any kind of nutrition and are not worth the price they were charging. I ended up getting the Kobe burger which was fantastic, but I don't go to a seafood restaurant to get a hamburger. I would not recommend this place to anyone wanting seafood."

  • "This place oozes sophistication and romance so I really HAVE to recommend this place for a date night. I love seafood...like I have an unhealthy obsession with it, but the night I went here I decided to order steak for my main dish....OH MY GOD!!! It was literally perfect! it was lightly crispy on the outside and around the edges, and just like butter on the inside...which is JUST how I like my steak, and the flavor was AMAZING! My boyfriend ordered the BBQ shrimp and grits and his dish was to die for as well. for our appetizer we ordered the blue crab dip and it was great, I really like the pita points they serve with this dish, it reminds me of the restaurant back home which had a similar dish. This place is worth it every penny!"

  • "The location and outstanding wait staff is what is savings this place. It was too dark, small portions, and high price tag make this a one dining experience. I actually left my business dinner meeting still hungry."

  • "I took my mom and her friends here for her 65th birthday. The atmosphere was great and the service was even better. The staff treated the ladies like celebrities. They even printed my mom's name on a special menu to give to her. The only two negatives were 1). The lighting. I've never been one to enjoy eating in the dark. I know it's more "romantic," but we had to take out the flashlights on our phone to see the menu and none of the pictures we took came out very well due to the lack of light. And 2). I think I just ordered the wrong entree. I got the cashew crusted tilapia. The fish itself was good, but I did not like the sides at all. I tasted some of my mom's steak...that's what I should have gotten! Delicious!!! Overall, I recommend it."

  • "For seafood in Raleigh this is a wonderful restaurant. The seasonal dishes are creative, presented beautifully and delicious. I had an asparagus salad and Salmon wrapped in Prosciuto - both excellent. We dine early so it was very quiet and I cannot be a judge of the bar scene. We love the Mission Style Decor which is classy and elegant. Will return and recommend very highly. Service was excellent."

  • "I realize that everyone is trying to economize but it is truly ridiculous to ask 4 adults if they want bread, then deliver 2 slices of their sourdough bread joined into a wedge impossible to cut without mangling the entire piece. so we asked for more bread and again got 2 pieces. give me a break; we spent over 100$ for dinner, bread is cheap, why skimp? on the up side they make a tasty appletini."

  • "We came here for the fish and chips for St Patrick's day and were pleasantly surprised. The waitstaff was great and the food was exceptional and probably some of the better I've had. I highly recommend their Captain's Mojito. The bartender did not skimp on the alcohol for thus one"

  • "Been coming to the restaurant since it opened and for the first time I had a mediocre dinner and dining experience. While the service was good, 3 of the 4 dinners were mediocre at best. Salmon was overcooked, BBQ shrimp and grits was served luke warm and tilapia was stale tasting. Salads were good as always. Overall a disappointment."

  • "Excellent food, great atmosphere and great food selection. Every time we want a nice meal, this is one of the restaurants we choose. Unfortunately, during this visit our service was slow as it appeared that the waiter was trying to wait on too many tables at the same time. It should be noted, however, this is very unusual for this restaurant as we will return again soon."

  • "Two of us had the fish, which was good but not outstanding. The ambiance was very nice and upscale, and not noisy at all despite a large number of people."

  • "Went on a Saturday night. Waiter was very good and was very helpful with suggestions. Wife had the corvine fish entrée which she loved. Dessert was scrumptious. Two quibbles: lighting was very dark and the restaurant temperature was on the cool side; could feel a cold blast every time someone entered."

  • "We had a gift certificate and visited on a busy Saturday evening. Service was very good. It was a mixed bag for our meals. My husband enjoyed the shrimp 3 ways, though they were slightly bland. My tuna was not what I expected. Thin slices, probably a quarter of a pound and borderline fresh. It was more of an appetizer portion than an entree. The setting is quite lovely and you don't feel like you are connected to a mall. Better than the 2 in Boston that we have been to."

  • "We went to M&S for brunch on Sunday. Sat outside. Bartender was our waiter and completely overwhelmed. We should have gotten a separate waiter/tress. All our drinks were wrong, but since we waited 15 min for them we just accepted them. Food was okay. Definitely not worth the $40/person we spent."

  • "We were traveling and staying across the street from this restaurant. Food was very good, however the waiter we had was outstanding! He really knew his business well. An older gentleman that said he had worked on the New Jersey shore for awhile. We are from New Jersey."

  • "It was our first visit to this restaurant. Our server was energetic and attentive. I was not overly impressed with the drink menu so, I opted for a coffee. We began with the calimari. It was well seasoned, and perfectly cooked. This dish also included fried peppers, artichokes, and carrots which were a delicious surprise. We shared the chopped salad. It was fresh, cold, and well dressed. The rainbow trout my husband had was well cooked however not seasoned. The butter that was served with it for dipping was good though. I had the shrimp trilogy. The shrimp were delicious. It was served with a butternut squash orzo. The orzo was the highlight of my meal. wonderful dinner for a special occasion. It is a bit pricey, you get what you pay for."

  • "John was our server and he was great and spot on! The food was pretty good, not as spectacular as I had expected, but I probably worked myself up too much. Scallops were cooked to perfection but the crab has underneath was dry and bland. It also took 2 hours for our entire dinner took place. The food came out of the kitchen incredibly slow. Definitely a great atmosphere and again, John was great. His appetizer recommendation was the Blue Crab Dip and it did not disappoint! We'll be back but probably only when a seafood craving hits."

  • "Overall good experience at M & S. The shrimp trilogy was very good, and the accompanying butternut squash orzo was excellent. The collards side dish was amazing. Service and ambiance were excellent. My wife's Wahoo had a "good" side and a "bad" side--not gone bad just dark with an unpleasant taste under skin that would have been removed if we were cooking it at home. The Calamari appetizer was very tasty. Really good wine list. We had a bottle of Buena Vista, "the Count" that was excellent. Don't know if the bar was just rushed that night, or if the bartender didn't know that a martini includes an olive unless otherwise requested, and a Manhattan should come with a cherry."

  • "The food didnt live up to our expectations. We ordered the seafood feast @ $39.99 and salad to share. The salad was good but they did not offer to split it nor did they bring an extra plate. We had to request an extra plate for the seafood platter which consisted of a VERY small piece of salmon (smaller than a card deck), 2 stuffed shrimp, 2 scallops and either 2 or 4 small grilled shrimp - certainly NOT a feast, & especially not for the exhorbitant price. Scallops were gritty and they didn't bring bread. Kids got stuffed salmon and fish & chips and enjoyed it. Overall: Food was okay but overpriced. I don't mind paying premium prices for premium food and decent quantities but we all felt M&S didn't live up to that."

  • "Lovely restaurant, service was exceptional. Entrees are over priced. I would return again for soup and a salad, however I may not return again for an entree. Wine is very high priced. There are many restaurants in Raleigh that offer a lovely atmosphere, good service and are more reasonably priced. Overall a good location."

  • "I can't sat it enough - this is my favorite restaurant! I say this for several reasons - from the moment you walk in to the moment you leave all you have to ask and they will get you anything you need. The reception staff is very friendly, the wait staff also friendly and professional, cocktails of course deelish and the entrees are also deelish! Can't wait to come back soon! Thanks all!"
