McCormick & Kuleto's Seafood RestaurantReal Fish at Fisherman's WharfShould you find yourself in the enviable position of looking for a meal while in SF's Tourist Central location, walk on by ALL the restaus actually situated on the Wharf and amble over to Ghirardelli Square where you can get a seat at a first class view of the Bay while dining on superbly handled fish followed by the best hot fudge sundae on the planet over at Ghiradelli Chocolate.
I am a local so frequent both venues often and can vouch for the consistency of both establishments.
Yesterday we had Cioppino- full of various fish, shrimp,crab and scallop, Grilled halibut- nice and crusty but tender and moist, succulent sturgeon and a crispy crepe filled with mahi and salmon. The garlic mashed potatoes were divine.

But you need to pass up all the pretenders along the wharf itself and go to Ghiradelli Square to find McKormick and Kuleto's. There you will find not only a table with a killer view but the freshest fish expertly handled and wait staff that know their business.
This is my go-to restau to bring out of towners and it never disappoints.
If you have room for dessert, you cannot beat the hot fudge sundaes at nearby Ghirardelli Chocolate. We have never been disappointed. We have a number of dietary challenges in our family, and the staff and chef are always happy to accommodate. The food has been excellent every time. Well, our waiter was so awful & we were celebrating such a special occasion , that it counted for 90% of our experience at the beginning! My husband got up to talk with Maitre D' and the problem was fixed instantly & completely ... Thank goodness for that ! You cannot turn back the clock on such a special occasion as celebration my son's first communion & once it is truly spoiled by a waiter's attitude and service ..... There's absolutely nothing anyone can do!
The rest of our celebration was how we envisioned it to be!
Thankfully to the maitre D and waiter that stepped in & took over our most precious meal !5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMRomantic EveningMy experience at McCormick and Kuleto's was EXCELLENT. I made reservations through OpenTable and requested a window seat. I had a friend visting San Francisco for the 1st time and I really wanted to dine at a restaurant that had good food with an excellent Bay View.
McCormick and Kuleto's did not disappoint. It was a great dining experience from the service to the food. Excellent!!!
The watress was very attentive and made some really great food suggestions.

We had our dinner with our three year old son and she was on top of it with him. I actually spilled a glass of water on our table and with in seconds she had a staff there and changed out everything . Once that group left, the service and atmosphere improved dramatically. The food was excellent by all accounts. The chocolate bag (more like an open box) was incredible. The bottom was a very thick dark chocolate and that dessert would be suitable for sharing among a group of six.
We had trouble flagging cabs home from the restaurant. The restaurant maitre-d had arranged a limo for us when we asked for 2 cabs. The limo would have been very pricey compared to normal cab fares. The restaurant was incredible! For this restaurant, they chose to ignore it. The kid screamed for the first 20 minutes of our visit, and then the family left. The waiter was outstanding-- he was very pleasant, nice and unpretentious. The noise-level was loud, so honestly, you couldn't hear a baby. We were lucky that our kids were overall well-mannered and didn't knock anything over and the baby was quiet for 99% of the dinner, so no extreme wailing. Everyone loved the view and meal. On the contrary, the food is consistently good and the view is spectacular. Even though it was dark (our flight arrived late) we were still seated by the window which provided fabulous views of the lights in Sausalito as well as the evening tour boats.
