We were in a hurry and had time
for only appetizers. The wait staff was incredibly helpful and quick, the atmosphere pleasant. Unfortunately, the 6 appetizers the waiter recommended all turned out to be some form of hummus which made for a rather boring meal."

Great for dinner before the
ballet. The small plates work well for a group and there are a number of vegetarian options."
Dined on 2/22/2014
Excellent Middle Eastern food in a
very pleasant atmosphere, reasonably priced within walking distance of Davies Hall. This is our second visit and both times we've walked away happy and really full! We also bring our own wine, which keeps the price down. I know tabbouli salad is a common dish, but it's delicious here -- so fresh and tasty."

The manager came to our table to
explain why they could not serve the arugula, but she stayed too long. The servers interrupted our table conversation several times to clear plates. They seemed more interested in clean up than the customers comfort and enjoyment."
Dined on 2/18/2014
Good service... Way way way
overpriced. Platters are not worth it and not filling. Good is ok. Out meal was 40 dollars each and was worth 15"

We ordered the Mezze plate for two
on Valentine's day pre-concert. We liked it very much, and thought the service was fine as well, although there were a few small mix-ups that were quickly resolved. All in all, we enjoyed ourselves and would go back pre-concert/when we are in Hayes Valley neighborhood another time."

We went to Mazzat for an intimate
dinner on Valentines Day, and it was lovely. The food is fresh & exquisite to taste, and the menu is affordably priced. The hot & cold starters offer you a great chance to sample all kinds of Lebanese flavors. We tried 4 starters & shared one dinner entrees. This was ample for two hungry people. Likely a place you'd go numerous times and try different things for a slightly varied experience. The pace of the meal was very nice. The service was friendly, but our server seemed a little scattered due a packed and lively restaurant. This was not a problem, love was in the air, and the overall ambiance of this small, intimate gem in Hayes Valley delivers. I'd recommend trying the Lebanese red wine with your meal."

he space is a bit small, so any
group over 4 would probably be a bit much. If you're a big meat eater, your best bet may be to order a completely separate meat dish, as most of the smaller dishes don't carry much meat at all. Of all the dishes, I would probably say the hot, roasted eggplant was my favorite because it carried the most flavor. I was a little underwhelmed by the lamb and rice. It smelled great, but there really wasn't much flavor in the dish. Overall, though, I was really satisfied with the quality of the food. I do wish they gave more pita bread to start though..."

This was my third time there and
the food is OK. The service is good. The restaurant has tables that are too close to each other for me. I understand why but I do not like having my chair on top of the diner next to me. Also, it get cold inside quickly because the front door doesn't close by itself. Staff are attentive to it when they can be but it would be good for them to fix it. It's such a small space that you feel the draft immediately even if you aren't seated near the door. For the price, I can find better places with better food. I do like the staff - they are very helpful and kind."

Nothing was superlative, but
everything was completely satisfactory. I'd been driving past this cafe for a decade (when it was something else) and I really enjoyed walking over and enjoying a meal in their vibrant and convivial dining room. Everyone was having a good time."

If you want something different
this is the place."

We picked the restaurant because
(1) it was kind of near the Orpheum (2) it had good reviews and (3) we thought Lebanese food might be fun. The food was really great, interesting flavors, nicely cooked. The lamb was meltingly tender. The eggplant appetizer and the cheese appetizer were delicious. The waiter was friendly, honest and helpful about various choices, and not overbearing. I would definitely recommend this place."

Go to Mazzat if you're looking for
delicious, high quality Mediterranean cuisine with a warm ambiance and service with a smile. My friends and I got the Mazzat platter and split 3 hot and 3 cold dishes. All dishes were freshly prepared with high quality ingredients - this was evident in the subtle yet tasty flavors that emerged through all of the food. Unlimited pita refills allowed us to mop up each lovely mazzat. Great spot for small groups, dates, or family get togethers - everyone will be satisfied!"

My son and I love middle eastern
food and were looking for a pre- opera dinner. After thanksgiving we wanted something lighter. The 18.00 3 hot/3cold Appetizer was perfect! The restaurant is noisy so if you want conversation be prepared to shout. Wait staff is responsive and friendly. Will defiantly return."
Dined on 11/29/2013
Terrific service and food. Even
the Lebanese wine was quite exceptional! We had the mezze platter for 3 and had more than enough food. Beware, the spicy hummus is truly spicy! We had a very nice exchange with the owner who convinced us to try the Lebanese Red Wine and we ended up buying a bottle. Look for a Lebanese Wine Bar/Lounge opening on Van Ness near Eddy sometime next year."
Dined on 11/23/2013
Terrific menu - plenty of choices.
Everything we had was tasty, but both the bamieh (okra w lamb) and the zaatar flatbread needed salt. The knafe dessert was delicious."
Dined on 11/23/2013
There is a 10 minute rule. I was
15 minutes late because the SF Orchestra played a little long. Table was gone and we had to eat at the bar."
Dined on 11/8/2013
This was the 4th or 5th time we
have dined here and it's consistently good. The owner was present and greeted us warmly as "regulars" and detailed his plans for an additional restaurant (wine lounge) on Van Ness. We very much enjoyed several smaller plates--the shrimp, the spicy potatoes, the haloumi cheese, and, of course, the hummus to start. My spouse also had the date muffin (quite small) for dessert. Wines by the glass are a generous pour and the prices overall are very reasonable. It's close enough to the civic center to enjoy a meal here before a symphony or opera performance."
Dined on 11/7/2013
I recommend it without any
condition. Just a little noisy."
Dined on 10/31/2013
Very convenient before a ballet,
opera or symphony. The food is great, there's a variety to choose from (I suggest sharing multiple small plates) and the service is very good."
Dined on 9/15/2013
We wanted to try both the Lebanese
beer and wine and they were out of both?! The food was just okay even though we ordered all the "best" things the waiter recommended. The restaurant was almost totally empty and now I know why. We won't be back"
Dined on 10/9/2013
Mazzat offers a wide variety of
tasty Lebanese dishes with two-thirds of the menu devoted to either hot or cold appetizers. it is a welcome addition to the neighborhood for pre-theater dining. The hummus with pita squares is a generous portion (very suitable for sharing) of a smooth rendition that is light on the garlic. We also sampled the ouzi--a delicate and delicious cake of steamed rice with beef and lamb--and the green beans with diced tomatoes. The beans were too soft and the dish lacked seasoning. The baklava for dessert was two small triangles and good, but not the best I've had. There is a good selection of wines by the glass."

Background: Party of 1 with
theater tix. Strike 1: 2 parties ahead of me were told they'd have to sit at bar-style tables rather than cafe tables since they didn't have reservations. I had reserved but was still put at a bar table. Strike 2: Took 10 minutes for someone to take my drink order. In the meantime the table next to me was waited on by 2 waiters, who each brought them the same drink order (they sent the 2nd order back). Strike 3: I tried to order the Mazzat platter but was told that at least 2 people had to order it. The menu doesn't say this, and no alternatives were offered. Strike 4: It took 20 minutes to get the check after my table was cleared. Strike 4: Another 10 minutes to get my credit card charged. Strike 5: bland food."

This place was good a few months
ago Food was not at all good this time. Poor preparation all around."
Dined on 9/2/2013
Some good starters, others are
good but not authentic. It is just for starters. Lebanese Deserts were not good at all. Table are small for mezze, not much space for 4 people to enjoy."
Dined on 8/21/2013
Enjoyed Mazzat before. This visit
found it the perfect eatery for our vegetarian and gluten free friends too."
Dined on 8/24/2013
i think everything came out of a
can or a plastic tub. The mezze platter had all one taste, bland. A good location if you were going to the Symphony, but with so many better spots around why bother with this one."
Dined on 8/8/2013
We enjoyed the small plates and
the bigger your group the more you can experiment. We liked the haloumi cheese, pickles and olives and the babaganuge plus the warm and generously sized pita bread. The thick and aromatic Lebanese coffee is also good - presented in a traditional brass serving carafe (just wish there were sugar lumps instead of the granulated sugar)."
Dined on 7/28/2013
The food here is a terrific deal
for Hayes Valley. My girlfriend and I got out of here for less than $50 and with full stomachs no less. The service is slow and inattentive, but still totally worth it."
Dined on 7/24/2013
Cheerful, helpful, friendly
waiter, along with outstanding Lebanese food. I highly recommend checking out this restaurant. The eggplant dish we had was delicious as well as the hummus and home made pita bread. I will definitely return. We had the shared platter dish which allowed us to sample 6 items."
Dined on 7/16/2013
We were looking for great Middle
eastern food in a location close to Davies symphony Hall and we found it! The service was great...prompt and attentive. The food was great...enough to take us back to our days living in the Middle east. We will be back for more!!"
Dined on 7/7/2013
Delicious hummus and their grilled
pita bread was fantastic! Also good was the kofta wrap. Our server was very attentive too."
Dined on 6/28/2013
went here for the first time.
ordered appetizers: usual hummus, Baba ghanoush, Tabbouleh: all were very tasty and generous quantities as well. we ordered two main dishes that we also enjoyed. we plan to go here again when we need to dine in the performing arts area of SF."
Dined on 6/23/2013
We had Mazzzat, choice of 3 hot &
3 cold appetizers, generous quantity of pita. Requires two orders @ $18/person. I loved "vegetable"-stuffed grape leaves, though the filling seemed to be mostly the usual rice. Hummus was tasty but terribly rich; this version of babbaghanoush--eggplant cooked, peeled, and pureed with garlic and oil--was delicious, also pretty rich. Fava beans in olive oil, etc., turned out to be saucelike rather than expected rehydrated whole beans, again tasty but rich. One of my favorites, mujadara--lentils, rice, & caramelized onions--lacked the essential onions! The waiter brought some, quickly sauteed but not at all caramelized; came with good cucumber-yogurt sauce. 1/2 heated, small pc baklava. $10 ckge. Try it!"
Dined on 6/19/2013
We booked a table here because our
usual pre-S.F. Symphony spots were all unavailable and it's only four blocks from Davies Hall. We were really surprised at the excellent dishes. Each dish has a range of different flavors, all working together, none overpowering the others. They must have a secret source for spices because the flavors were different, and better, than we've tasted before. The baklava was served warm and with a lovely presentation. If you go, DO have the cardamon coffee. We'll be back."
Dined on 5/26/2013
My wife & I didn't know what to
expect when we booked a table at Mazzat, but what a find it was. Friendly & knowledgeable service, and wonderful, delicious food from start to finish! We'll be back again."
Dined on 5/23/2013
I love Mazzat. I have been there a
couple times now and the food is always delicious. It is such a fun restaurant for a group as you can order several small plates and taste a variety of foods. The dishes are flavorful and prepared with fresh ingredients. I will definitely be back many more times!"
Dined on 5/17/2013
What an enjoyable experience.
Staff was very good and the food was wonderful. We didn't know what to expect but everything was more than we hoped for. Everyone should try this amazing food!"
Dined on 5/11/2013
Delicious introduction to Lebanese
food. Different but wonderful flavors unique for every dish."
Dined on 5/11/2013
They were wonderful in taking our
order and bringing our food promptly to make sure we had time to get to the ballet at 8."
