Diner Reviews
  • "Yes, the portions may be small but the flavors pack a punch. The restaurant week menu was very limited. I am not a person who eats large portions, so they were just right for me. Drinks were expensive. The watermelon salad is more of a sampling plate as there were no "salad greens" per se - a small rectangular chunk of watermelon, grilled and seasoned (olive powder I think), served with a few wedges of heirloom tomatoes, 2 small chunks of feta, 2 thick slices of cucumber and lettuce "shoots" (like pea shoots but were red and green). Each item was placed beautifully on the plate and were delicious together. The chicken with risotto was the perfect size portion and flavorful and the meal was finished with flour-less chocolate cake."

  • "We went there for our anniversary dinner. I had ordered a cocktail. The person who took the order said that it is not going to be sweet but he can ask the bar-tender to make it sweet for me. The drink was very good. We had the crab cake and duck confetti appetizers. The quality of the crab was top class and I loved the duck too. For main course I ordered the chicken and my husband ordered the steak. The highlight of my chicken dish was the onions. Overall our experience was lovely."

  • "We were seated at our reservation time but, since we were early, could have been served early if we chose to sit in the lounge area (near the window). Instead, we sat at the bar and waited for a table. Overall the place was smaller than we expected. Drinks were good. Service was fine. The salads were excellent, appetisers of scallops and tartar were really good - especially the tartar. Wellington done perfectly but the crust was softer than I like it. The main meal included great portions and after all that we still had room for dessert. The zucchini peach dessert was very small but good. Overall very enjoyable. Prices were a little high for what we got and unfortunately we did not realize until we left that the bill was wrong."

  • "This may have just been because of restaurant week but the experience was a disaster. And the table next to us had the same bad experience. - the options for restaurant week lunch were extremely limited (2 items to choose from for appetizers, 2 for main course and only 1 dessert, compared to sometimes 5 or 6 choices per dish in other restaurants). - the food was served cold - the right silverware was not on the table, and took some time to find its way to our table... - bread was asked for several times and came half way through the lunch Very bad experience, does not make me want to go back."

  • "My biggest thing when dinning out is service I have no problem spending money if the service is good. At Maze I found the service very poor. We had a long waiting for food, no attention to guest. We place our order and did see the waiter again until the end of the meal, for our dessert order. He was also not very knowledgable about the menu, we ask him questions about some of the dishes on the menu, and he couldn't provide any explaination or discription. We also waited quite a while to receive our check. Desert was very. Gordon Ramsey is not on the list for a return visit."

  • "My wife, dad and I went to eat at the Maze for dinner. We had an appetizer and main course. Appetizer: Beef Tartar (do not recommend) My father is a retired chef and one of his favorite raw meat delicacies is the beef tartar. However, this beef tartar at the Maze was quite bland and flavorless. I don't know if there are multiple versions of ways to make a beef tartar, but my dad said there were a lot of spices and seasonings missing in this beef tartar. Main Course: Chicken Breast (wfre) & Beef Wellington for 2 (dad and I) My wife's chicken was absolutely fantastic and the beef wellington was amazing. I really can't describe much more than to simply say that these two entrees we definitely recommend."

  • "I love Ramsey and was looking forward to trying one of his signature dishes, none of which was on the Sunday Brunch Menu. We had the fish and it was only mediocre for such a highly rated restaurant. I was highly disappointed and brunch for 2 cost over $100 with tip."

  • "I had read a lot of reviews before going to this restaurant while in New York and was sad to see that so many were so negative, but decided to try anyways because I've always wanted to try beef Wellington. I was very happy. It was DELICIOUS. The service wasn't "friendly" but it was incredibly professional. We wanted to order an appetizer at first and had ordered the cheese plate for 2, but our waiter stated it was a lot of food and if we were planning on having an entree, we should just get for one. Thank god - it was plenty as an appetizer and our entree (meant for 2) was plenty as well. I was sad to be so full that I had no room for dessert. Very pleased and will definitely recommend and go back if in New York again."

  • "Sorry this is choppy, I had to re-edit the review since I went over by 500 characters. During Restaurant Week, was busy & could not take us earlier then reservation. Came back seated in the bar area. Asked to preview the menu & it never arrived, waited and were only seated AFTER we reminded the hostess. Booth had a center "leg", difficult to sit & place legs or feet. Food good but not great, best part (and only choice btw) was desert. My wife ordered french fries (delicious, crisp, had a "green" colored herb. It was a good thing she ordered them since portion sizes (meal) were small. Wait-staff attentive, "serviced" by different servers for each portion. Since a fan of Gordon Ramsay had higher expectations, maybe just an off day."

  • "I brought my German friends to Maze for lunch while they were visiting NYC. We did not understand why the hostess made us wait at least 15 minutes to seat us when we had arrived on time for our reservation at noon and the restaurant was empty. However, we enjoyed the fixed price lunch that was offered for 'Restaurant Week' and appreciated the good service from the staff. I would definitely come back again for another meal at Maze."

  • "I ate two meals at Maze, lunch and dinner. For lunch, the service was very slow and rather surly, but the food was outstanding. For dinner, the food was truly spectacular and the service very friendly and efficient. So, great food and can be great service, should the server so desire. The beef wellington for dinner was truly exceptional, but perhaps not as amazing as the chicken breast. I have never eaten chicken so well cooked and so flavorful. They also have some nice non-alcoholic options, which is a refreshing change from many restaurants. This is truly a great restaurant, food-wise, and only needs to have more consistent service to be among the best."

  • "We (the family) had Beef Wellington, a fish dish and a lobster pot (me). The lobster pot was a real disappointment, was not expecting that. The beef tartar and the scallops for starters was very good. I had high expectations before going there since I am a fan of Gordon, maybe that's why my disapointment became that large."

  • "Was expecting much more given all the fuzz. We were the first people there for lunch but it didn't matter, our lunch took 1.5 hrs given how slow the service was. Waiters were unfriendly and good was good, but nothing to rave about. Appetizers and dessert were good, main was barely average."

  • "I've dined at a few Gordon Ramsay restaurants in London, so I was excited to find one in NYC. I was a little skeptical because it was in a hotel, but it was great. The restaurant was typical of Gordon's style- sleek, modern, comfortable. The menu is small, but different (duck confit tater tots, delicious). The food was perfect, the wine list was extensive, the wait staff service was just OK, but the Somm was terrific. I'll be back."

  • "My son treated me to dinner at Maze-By Gordon Ramsay for my birthday. We started with drinks, which were very good, but pricey even by NYC standards. The meal was very good. The Fish & Chips were hot and chrispy and his lobster pot pie couldn't have been any better. The chocolate decadence dessert was pure "Gordon Ramsay" - as close to perfection as one can get. I am returning to NYC in December and I am planning on dinner at Maze again with my husband this time."

  • "The cod was tasteless. The salad was teeny. The dessert was good but not creative. All in all Chef Ramsay on his show Kitchen Make Overs would gave rejected the food. I would never recommend this place. FOR SHAME."

  • "I thought The Maze was a great place to get dinner on Monday. My friend and I had reservations for 7:15 we got there so early but came back a little later and the hostess was super nice. Our first waiter was ok but looked like he was rushing and didn't serve us bread, we got it after a second waiter came with our entrée and we asked if it came with it. My friend and I shared the "London Beef Burger" and it was beautifully cooked and we enjoyed every last bite! The chef did a wonderful job! We shall be coming back!"

  • "arrived right on time of our reservation- 45min later we still hadn't been served food. neither had the people on the next table. might've been more understandable had restaurant been full and busy. more than half the seats empty. no explanation whatsoever. i had other plans in the afternoon so left Maze- still hungry. so yes, an unbelievable experience."

  • "Good was mediocre but the waiting time to get the food was ridiculous !!! 45 minutes for the appetizer and another 45 minutes for the main course !!!! The desert? We obviously skipped it."

  • "First, we had a reservation but we still had to wait... waited it's fine but waiting while you saw lots of available tables was not OK. I really don't understand why there's a lot of unclean tables. You didn't have bus boy in your restaurant? I feel more welcome with other restaurants. About the food, maybe I expected too much by his shows. They were not bad, really, but there's nothing wonderful.. just so so. The grilled watermelon was nice smell, chicken was well cook but fish had no taste and corn soup was too salty. Maybe I expected too much...."

  • "The presentation and the taste of food was amazing. Great creativity. The wait was too long for the lunch. The service was below as excepted for this venue. There was a mistake on the check."

  • "I was in the mood for fish. The two fish offerings were branzino and fish and chips, neither of which were as appealing to me as the trout on the prix fixe menu. I would have ordered the prix fixe but they only allow it if 2 people have ordered it. I understand that but was puzzled and disappointed that they would not allow me to order the trout as an entrée ."

  • "Greeted as a valued guest by the host however, all the waiters that came to the table very disappointing as there was a language barrier and the waiters did not understand the menue. It felt like I was eating at a diner. I asked several questions about the menue and was answered with a blank stare. The food however was delicious and the presentation was appetizing. I expected more professionalism and higher standards at Gordon's Restaurant. Not the best dinning experience."

  • "My boyfriend and I came for our anniversary.. We love gordon Ramsay..we came with high expectations..most were met.. Interior was very nice romantic simple and elegant. It really didn't seem to be a gordon Ramsay restaurant his name was on some menus little bit outside and that was it..maybe he doesn't want his nam everywhere because of the sad service that service good food. We started with scallops they were delish my boyfriend said they were the filet mignon of fish lol. We had beef Wellington which was very good but felt the one in his Vegas restarant was better..but still good need a bit more flavor on the beef..pastry was very good a lil bit mushy ..dessert we ordered chocolate decadence..it was rich n good too. Service was terrible."

  • "Food and service was outstanding. We hat the pre show menu which was delicious and quite affordable. Most of us had the scallop risotto except for one who preferred the chicken, they were both absolutely amazing. You have to try the chocolat desert, it is completely decadent. Definitely will go back."

  • "We were a 4-person family having a pre-theater menu. Food was good and tasty, nothing exceptional though. What was exceptional was service. Exceptionally lousy. The sommelier was arrogant and didn't get our wine or children's drink orders before the starter ( food was on the table when we ordered wine for the food). When I asked recommendations for scallop risotto, only answer was that he had a good sancerre - that's all. Dessert wines or coffees nobody bothered to ask. So we didn't have any. When we finally had a chance to pay, we never got the change or the bill back (waited for a good moment), so we left the tip on the table and left the building disappointed. Not an example of a Michelin restaurant that we wanted to present to our kids."

  • "My 21 year old daughter and I specifically chose this restaurant because we are big fans of Gordon Ramsey. We opted to dine early as we had planned a Broadway show following. I ordered a signature Gordon Ramsey dish, Rissoto and the corn soup. The presentation was boring for both and was blandly plated but the food had good flavor. My daughter ordered the burger, as most 21 year olds would. It was cooked perfectly and she enjoyed it for the most part. Service was excellent but the atmosphere was more of a dark and quiet place, great for the couple sitting at the bar locking lips through our entire dinner. Overall, the experience was okay, but not what I had expected from a Gordon Ramsey owned restaurant."

  • "Living in Manhattan, it's easy to become a foodie and develop a refined taste. For years I've heard of Ramsey's beef wellington but never sought it out. After finally having it at Maze, I still can't believe how amazing it was. It was single handedly the best dinner I've ever had in my life. Perfectly prepared. I only wish it was also on the menu in London's main room."

  • "As many here, my wife and I are big Gordon Ramsay fans. This was the main reason to visit Maze. We had a very good overall experience. Everything was excellent. Overall, however, we think the price is only justified because of the "experience" of going to a Ramsay restaurant. It is too pricey. We had a pre theater 3 course dinner, plus one drink each, and including tip we ended up paying over 130 dollars. Sure, the food was amazing, everyone was really kind, but not too kind that it becomes uncomfortable, the place is really hip, even romantic, I would say (dimmed lights, lounge music), but we had other similar dinners during our trip to NYC and didn't pay more than 65 dollars. Overall, though, we are happy we visited Maze."

  • "The only thing I didn't like was that you are told no sneakers, no jeans, preferably men should wear jackets. Well, let me tell you what, there were people in there with shorts and sandals and tank tops. It was really disappointing. It damaged the whole experience. It was suppose to be an upscale location. It ended up feeling like a regular restaurant with an expensive menu."
