A word from Maza Mediterranean Italian
We are an Italian and Mediterranean restaurant that aims to make honest food that is inspired by regional cooking throughout the Mediterranean. We"re always updating our menu and trying different approaches to our fare to bring something new and fresh to the area.
We take our ingredients seriously. If it's on your plate, we chose it because it was the best we could get. Our cheeses are imported from Italy, France, and Spain or made at our favorite US creameries. We partner with local farms to bring you the freshest produce when it’s available. Our meat and fish without exception reflect our absolute desire to source the best. We also spend a huge amount of time refining our wine list, aiming to get a level of quality and value that matches that of the dishes.

Our daughter-in-law, who just happens to be Greek and from Chgo, was very impressed with our server and the menu. We tried a new appetizer which was served as expected in a big city. By the way, it was excellent and we will share that again another time. Everyone enjoyed their meal selection and our server was one of the best we have had at Maza. (All our servers have been good but this one was just the right one for this evening.) She was knowledgeable but not ostentatious. Solicitous but not hovering. We could not have had a more pleasant evening. We will be back frequently and will bring out of town guests knowing they will have a good meal and experience.

My husband and I dine at Maza often, nearly every week. The menu is varied and interesting, with offerings from the Mediterranean region - Spain to Lebanon. Their seafood specials are always outstanding. This is a place a foodie would enjoy. We have always had great service, even on very busy times like Valentine's Day and New Year's Eve. Also the noise level has never been such that we have had to shout across the table. In general, if we want a simple steak dinner, we go elsewhere but if we want something more creative, Maza is our choice.

We've eaten at Maza multiple times and generally like the food and cozy atmosphere. The service has been slow in the past, but this past evening, we had to hunt for a server after waiting for 20 minutes with no sign of interest in our table.

Absolutely the best local food in the area. Definitely not your typical "red sauce" shop but instead a nice combination of Italian and Mediterranean fare and wines to accompany it. Wonderful flavors! and every dish tastes like it was made especially fro you. We will be regulars.

  • Mediocrity incarnate

While I can't say that Maza was a particularly bad dining experience, it really failed at being anything more than a mediocre one. It was loud and conversing with someone seated across from you proved to be a cumbersome task. I got the lamb and beef kefta kebab, both of which were very underwhelming. The lamb was tough and chewy, the beef kefta lacked any real flavor and also resembled rubber in consistency. I expected more for $16. The service, however, was decent and our waiter did a nice job keeping tabs on us. I would say that you should avoid this place unless you are willing to shell out more money than it is worth for the experience.

This was our second visit to Maza. My husband liked it better than I did the first time so he wanted to come back for his birthday. When we arrived there was no one at the desk to greet us. We stood and waited quite a while before a waiter noticed us and showed us to a table. The food is mostly Greek. My husband ordered a lamb and shrimp dish and both were overcooked. We weren't impressed.

If you like to eat fresh healthy wonderful tasting dishes this is the place for you. The owner is Lebanese so lots of flavorful entrees on the menu as well as mainstays. 3 of us had the sole baked in parchment with julienne vegies. The fish was delicate and flaky and almost melted in your mouth. The vegies with it were a great compliment. 1 person had the gnocchi stuffed with lobster and said it was very good but wish she had tried ours! The red lentil soup and Lebanese spaghetti are mainstays on the menu and definitely worth trying. We were on a fixed time schedule and the server made sure we were served efficiently so we had time to spare. The place is small with no outdoor seating or wonderful view but it's worth it for the food!

  • Disappointing New Year's Eve

After reserving for 7:30 on Open Table a week before NYE, a few days later the restaurant called to say they would only be seating at 6 and 8 and asked if 8 was okay. I agreed, thinking we would still be able to meet our planned movie time at 9:30. We arrived and were seated at 7:45. It was nearly 8:45 before our appetizers arrived! Dinner came shortly after, we ate hurriedly, and missed out on lingering over dessert and coffee. The menu was a limited one that night, so I would not have expected long delays for our food, especially since there were only two seatings that night! The food was very good, but also very expensive. I would not have been too bothered by the expense if the service had been good. Not at all sure I would go back.

This was our third visit to the restaurant. On the two previous occasions we had been quite satisfied. This ocassion was a mixed experience. the waiter brough our salads before we had finished our apetitzer. He did apologize for doing so, but the harm was already done. The halibut entree was quite good, fish fresh and perfectly cooked. the veal, however, was tough and the risotto that accompanied it was under cooked. We informed our server, who offered to bring us another order. The second order was undercooked as well. we asked to server to inform the chef. The reply that we got was: that was how we serve the risotto. Not a very satisfactory or professional reply. .

I would recommend this restaurant because of the menu. It is not a run of the mill menu, and has many items. The waiter was one of the nicest young men and was knowledgeable and personable. Unfortunately, the food was not the best. The lamb was the slightest bit chewy, and could have been more flavorful. The Grouper was a big "strong". Not even close to Mitchell's at Clay Terrace or Kona Jack's in Indy. I loved the sit down dining with real table cloths and sturdy silverware. Perhaps we just chose the wrong menu items. Thank you and I hope you are successful in this endeavor.

Came on a recruiting trip to Purdue, and took a risk on this restaurant. Definitely not a central location, but the food was by far amazing. The food was authentically Middle Eastern / Mediterranean. My recruiting buddy and I, who have travelled extensively, were quite surprised to have such high quality food and presentation in West Lafayette (no offense to West Lafayette). We did not experience any of the issues around service that others mentioned.

We found Maza via yelp and were not disappointed. The mediterranean cuisine is a unique find in West Lafayette and the food is delicious. Portions are very ample - you will not go away hungry. Two of us had the Kabobs and they were so tasty and tender. The shrimp kabob gets a 5 star rating! The others in our group ordered italian dishes and enjoyed them although two of the folks do not like spicy food and felt that the medium-level spice was too hot for them. The service was attentive and the owner comes by to ask about your meal. Very nice place. We will definitely be back.

Food: very inconsistent. Service: consistently terrible. Although the appetizers we got were mostly pretty good, the pitas served with the humus were like shoe leather. They were also out of one thing we wanted and had dropped another despite it still being on the printed menu. The paella, which we used to love, was a disaster: like soggy risotto, with tomatoes (?), using something more like pepperoni than chorizo. The seafood in it was scarce and off-tasting. The dried-out piece of grilled chicken belonged on an ice rink. The whole thing had a nasty medicinal taste from over-use of saffron. Took forever to get all 4 of us water. Were never asked about drinks. To-be-shared food got cold waiting for plates. Were never asked about dessert.

From the outside you would never know that the food at this place is incredible and so upscale. My wife and I each had wonderful entrees that were detailed and intricate. Her scallops were huge and perfectly cooked. They even did a kid's portion of fettucine alfredo for my son even though it isn't on the menu. Our server was super attentive and kind. We will be going back - maybe without the kids so we can linger and try the extensive wine list!
