Diner Reviews
  • "I love the decor; it is a very relaxing and warm environment. The wood and wine were great."

  • "The food is exceptional - I don't eat meat or poultry but do eat seafood and there was plenty for me to choose from off the menu (usually southern cuisine is meat-heavy). My husband said the duck was one of the best he's ever had. The place is beautiful, although VERY loud and the service was good, but I was disappointed when they brought our oysters and appetizer at the same time. I would have liked to receive the oysters first, then the app staggered and I believe I told them that."

  • "The staff was very accommodating and the food was creative and wonderful. It's a very bright and open space but very few tables so be sure to make a reservation even for lunch. If you are dining alone or with a friend the bar is empty at lunch and serves the menu so that can be a great option."

  • "Great location, nice room, cool scene. Unusual brunch food, but worth trying."

  • "Some of the best food we've eaten anywhere. Definitely recommend the hay- roasted oysters!"

  • "Fabulous bourbon list, and providing the option of one ounce pours allows you to create your own "flight." Fortunately, the hearty and flavorful food is fully up to the superb quality of the bourbons. Add extremely professional and knowledgeable service and you have a real winner."

  • "Went here for dinner. Had the roasted bone marrow (excellent), buttermilk and beet salad (very good), charred beef carpaccio (very good), and the crispy chicken entree (good). Service was friendly and attentive. The place was nice."

  • "This was an all-around good dining experience. The waitstaff was very knowledgeable about their whisky selection. Their specialty is bourbon. Particularly recommended is the Woodford Double Oak. They offer 1-ounce samplers, which my husband adored. The best cornbread I've ever had. We ended up ordering a bunch of extraordinary appetizers and two spectacular desserts. Highlights were hay-roasted oysters, roasted bone marrow, lobster toast and duck breast with crispy pierogies. Dessert was a warm chocolate cake with vanilla bean ice cream and a lemon granita. We look forward to returning."

  • "Although known as a Whiskey Bar... Maysville does a wonderful weekend brunch. Menu items more on the southern side which is just what I was looking for. Really enjoyed the crab toast appetizer, as well as my main dish, Crispy grits with ham. Got to try the duck sausage which was wonderful and really not to miss is the endless supply of little corn muffins they give you on your table. I recommend the Sunday brunch!"

  • "We had a really great dinner here - the crispy grits in particular are a must-have, though they were unfortunately out of the lobster pasta, which we also wanted to try. The drinks are amazing and the whiskey sommelier (if that's the right term?) was very helpful in helping us pick different whiskeys to try."

  • "Very friendly, knowledgeable staff and excellent food. A real find."

  • "They even pulled up an extra table when our party got larger. FYI: Don't bring a Vegan"

  • "Food is amazing, service is great. This night all of the food was a little extra salty...little too much on the muffins and Fried grits. But I love this spot."
    Dined on 3/9/2014
  • "Excited to eat here before a concert at the garden. Waiter had an attitude and was slow as molasses. I have never not given a waiter 15-20% tip before but that night we did. Food was very good but service not worth it."
    Dined on 3/4/2014
  • "Very novel idea for a restaurant and bar. There are hundreds of different brands of Bourbon on the shelves behind the bar. Great decorative touch as well. Brunch was delicious. I loved potatoes. I don't drink but my friends loved the bourbon bloody marys - great combo even though one wouldn't think so. Whiskey pickles in the drinks made them even better"

  • "Excellent, original menu. Great service, not hovering or fussy. Loved the bourbon flight. Portions were enough, not excessive. Background music wasn't loud or annoying. Great decor, comfortable seating. We dine out in NYC a lot & this is one of the best in a long time!"

  • "It's nice that Brooklyn isn't the only place for hip, good restaurants to open. Maysville has a relaxed yet happening vibe from the moment you walk in. Food was fantastic, the grits with ham appetizer are a must. Will definitely be going back again soon."

  • "I live in Brooklyn and I am a huge lover of brunch, so I'm always looking for a good brunch recommendation in New York City. Bonus points for a place that takes reservations, because the only major drawback to a lot of places that serve brunch in the city is the long wait for a table. Mayesville is beautiful, spacious, and surprisingly uncrowded for Saturday brunch at noon, and I was easily able to get a reservation for four on Open Table. The menu has a southern comfort food flare. The food is exceptionally delicious. We had the johnny cakes, crispy grits, kale chicken salad and quiche, and it was all heavenly. The service is not extraordinarily attentive, but very courteous and professional. Fantastic place!"

  • "Highly recommend Maysville for its fine dining without attitude. Corn bread muffins are crispy and salty. that's where we started...There are some reasonable wines on a vast list of whiskey -- and knowlegeable people to guide the selection. The food is remarkable. Highlights: The whitefish in a jar comes with lovely orange roe and garlic toast. addictitive. Brussel sprouts - crispy and plentiful. We ordered as a side with the duck and had a perfect meal. There were four of us. We tried three desserts--complex tastes and textures. Maybe like the chocolate one best, but all worth indulging. We were not rushed even though the place was busy. the feeling is very laid back and friendly. Will be back."

  • "A little too energetic for the noise level since it Is a small space. But the food makes up For the lack of Intimacy . Great blend of of flavors. Not so great for romantic venue."

  • "Great whiskey selection. Had a lot of whiskies I've been wanting to try but couldn't find."
    Dined on 2/21/2014
  • "The three dishes I tried (crab toast, crispy grits, crispy chicken) were all very very good. It was a very enjoyable and unique take on southern food. The only downside to my time at this restaurant was the server who was pretty unfriendly. It seemed like she was just trying to get us in and out and on to her next guests. This was unfortunate and I usually never experience this type of treatment at supposedly higher end restaurants. When we weren't ready to order, she gave us a look like we had just killed her dog. Like relax. You're job is suppose to make us feel comfortable and yet you somehow found a way to do the exact opposite. BTW this was on valentines day for dinner and we were sitting at a two person table closer to the bar."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "The restaurant is trying to be both a high end innovative dining experience and a popular whiskey bar. Unfortunately the space is too narrow for that or there was no plan to install noise deadening design. It is quite loud and this was on the night of one of the nor'easters -- it is probably busier other nights."
    Dined on 2/13/2014
  • "The food is amazing. Well thought out menu, incredible bourbon selection and service to wrap it all together. Been 7 times and it gets better each time. Warning - happy hour scene is vibrant but there is aback room that is a bit more mature."
    Dined on 2/13/2014
  • "Food was Amazing! Great for Whiskey lovers and foodies! Mouthwatering....can't wait to go back!"
    Dined on 2/12/2014
  • "We went for brunch The food was delicious and quite filling, but the menu was limited and a little unusual. The duck sausage was very good, but rich . The biscuit was great, filled with all the shortening you would expect. A little on the pricy side."
    Dined on 2/9/2014
  • "huge selections of bourbon and whiskeys, creative use of fresh ingredients in excellent food, plus large paintings of horses. knowledgeable waitstaff. fun and energetic vibe."
    Dined on 2/6/2014
  • "This place is terrific, you cant really go wrong - the food is creative, southern, deconstructed, re-imagined and delightful. A real sense of whimsy and great flavors. The vibe is good, but it can get pretty loud, so dont plan on a romantic night here. Like bourbon? You will LOVE this place."
    Dined on 2/7/2014
  • "Blown away by the selection of whiskeys and delicious food. Get the braised short rib or chat as your entree. Deep fried grits are a phenomenal appetizer."
    Dined on 2/5/2014
  • "There were 3 of us first time in this place, all three entrees were amazing, thanks to open table for recommending this restaurant. Will become regular."

  • "Had a great experience at Maysville. The food and service were excellent. We loved the whiskey and drink selections and the waiter was knowledgeable. we loved the fact that we were not rushed at all. Highly recommended."

  • "Enjoyable dining experience. I wasn't personally impressed with the menu as it was a bit limited, but I'm sure others would be more appreciative of the thought put into it. Also, a bit more "energetic" (read noisy) than I'd normally like. Excellent Manhattan made up for most of the shortcomings, though!"

  • "This is a not to be missed brunch spot. Incredible crispy grits dish. Must order that, although everyone else loved their dishes too. Really great spot."

  • "Our waiter was really strange and uncomfortable, seemed to be smirking at us the whole time, was incredible slow and inattentive"
    Dined on 1/24/2014
  • "Really great place but high end wine a tad over priced."

  • "Been to Maysville many times and it's always a fabulous experience."
    Dined on 1/9/2014
  • "Second time I have been here to try the bone marrow and they were out both times. Seems silly, but they were also out of a 3 or 4 other things on the menu. If you want something specific, go early."
    Dined on 1/13/2014
  • "Service was awesome and so was the food. I loved their complimentary corn muffins and butter. The spaghetti with lobster was outstanding, surprinsing since this is a Southern restaurant. However, it would have been right at home on the menu of an Italian joint. The duck was already wonderful- Cut into 4 thick steak like cuts and prepared to my rare request."
    Dined on 1/10/2014
  • "Maysville was a wonderful experience all around. We started with the brussel sprouts with pig ears, which were perfect, crisp and delicious. Another diner had the Actic Char app and it was great. For dinner with had the Duck, Chicken and a pasta. All cooked perfectly and beautifully presented. Service was ver good, professional and attentive. The wine list is quite good, but there are not many wines under $100 per bottle. Bar is very vibrant and attractive as is the whole space. They have a home run with this place."
    Dined on 1/11/2014
  • "We do a lot of fine dining in New York City and will always try some place that looks interesting. Maysville is really a trendy bar with an adventurous menubut nota fine-dining establishment. The dining room is very small and cramped. The number of people on the wait staff and their performance is what you would expect in a trendy bar but not from a restaurant with foodie clientele aspirations. The quality of the food was mixed. The duck confit appetizer was good but the oyster soup was disappointing. The smoked trout and braised rib entrees were good but not inspired, the chicken less so. The deserts, which we consider a very important component of dinner were terrible. We spent $300+ for four people and won't be coming back."
