Diner Reviews
  • "With a group of nine arriving early on a Friday evening (5:30-ish), including a personal friend of Chef Kyle, we were treated like royalty! The food was all delicious ... The grits dish was a favorite! From Brick Chicken to Trout to Steak everyone loved their entrees. Desserts were also original and delicious! I can't wait to go back. p.s. The horse drawings on the wall are even more impressive in person than in the photos. WOW~Art and food!"

  • "The food was excellent, so were the drinks and the ambiance. Just wished I had remembered how loud it gets, even in the back room, since I was there with some colleagues - we could barely hear each other. Not the best place to have a work conversation but definitely recommend for friends."

  • "It was my second time going, the first was a really great experience, great food and service. I even remember a manager or owner coming over to ask how everything was. This time the food was still great but the service was lacking. Very slow, we even spoke about it at the table how long it was taking to get our first round. It was a Monday night so not as busy as a Thursday. When we left we noticed we were the last table to leave. The staff seemed more annoyed that we were still there than happy to serve us. We passed through the bartender and wait staff and no on even said good night or thanks for coming. I would still go back because the food really is good but I hope this last time was just an off night."

  • "This was a great way to spend the Fourth! They had the most delicious cheese burger and a great beer and whiskey deal. Fantastic!"

  • "We were in the area and were looking for something yummy. For the most part we found it. Everything we ordered was good, but some of the dishes, including the corn bread they bring to the table, were excessively salty. The smoked char and the slow cooked char were excellent! The grits, steak tartar and the duck were tasty, but the amount of salt made it difficult to enjoy completely. We will defiantly give it another try."

  • "great place to have some awesome cocktails and food with friends. If you are sensitive to noise this may be too loud. I have a tree nut allergy which they were awesome with and I could even eat desert which is a rare things! SO good !"

  • "My husband is a huge bourbon fan, so we wanted to try this spot. It did not disappoint. The huge selection of bourbon is nice to have, and the cocktails are nice, but the star here at Maysville is the food: absolutely perfect flavors on a nicely curated menu meant to pair with the drinks. We tried four dishes tonight, the cornbread and the small plate of after dinner sweets. There was not a thing we did not like. I definitely need to come back to try out the other items on the menu. Clearly, there is culinary magic at work in the kitchen here and the chef will soon be, if not already, a huge name in the NYC food scene. Thank you, Maysville, for making date night really worthwhile. I cannot recommend this place enough! 5 stars!"

  • "Food was great, and service people very friendly, definitely worth trying. The wait for a table with a reservation was one-half hour, which we could have managed, but the food took forever to come out of the kitchen."

  • "As always, I had a fantastic meal at Maysville. This is quickly becoming my go to restaurant because it never disappoints. The market driven menu is fantastic. Everything was delicious, but the tomato Salad, nettle-filled pasta and Arctic char were definitely standouts. Make sure to save room for dessert. The chocolate and peanut butter tart is out of this world. And always take advantage of the extensive bourbon list! Or you can stick with a classic whiskey cocktail, like an old fashioned or Manhattan, that the bartenders at Maysville make perfectly. Such a great restaurant!"

  • "inetresting place and cool bar/menu...although the menu was limited....we were sat in the back room which was kind of dead though."

  • "The food here is SO good!! I have had both brunch AND dinner, and I could not have asked for a better meal!! The presentation of the food (platting, platters, colors, etc) is beautoful. Not to mention -- THE DESSERTS!!! Chef Caroline Schiff is a mastermind. Her flavor combinations are delicious. I HIGHLY recommend the chocolate peanut butter tart!!!"

  • "Impeccable service and great Bourbon whiskey begin the evening followed by an amazing southern foods presented in a manner that excites your taste buds with every bite. The Grit's and oyster appetizers are a must. Everyone in our group raved about their entries (steak, chicken, duck and Article char) from their presentation, size of portions and the way the Chief blended the vegetables, fruits and spices into a flavor filled master piece of culinary perfection. Then when you thought it couldn't get any better the Pastry Chief provides you with mouth watering desserts that completes the evening and leaves you asking for more. A must place to go when you are in NYC."

  • "Maysville is a great discovery. Everything my friend and I ordered was delicious. We started with oysters and soft shell crab which were excellent and went on to trout and Arctic char. Incredibly good. Our wines and small tasting of bourbon (a specialty of the house) were excellent. The service could not have been better. The atmosphere is upbeat and fun. Great crowd!I am definitely returning."

  • "I went for a hearty Sunday brunch and got just that. They had a lean options but I went for a proper Southern option of food which was very good. But foremost, their whiskey and rye selection (incl drinks) was awesome. I hope to come back one day. Good service."

  • "Great place to bring a man in your life as they have an extensive Bourbon list. The hay roasted oysters and crab toast are amazing! My mother got the crispy polenta, and it was definitely so delicious I would recommend it to anyone. Drinks are all great, even if your not a huge whisky fan they still taste great and are not over powering (actually quite refreshing). Also, the decor was great, over all I was very pleasantly surprised by this place since I didn't really know what to expect when coming!"

  • "We love this place. We've been going here since it opened and the food continues to be consistent and get better and better. Everything on the menu that we have tried has been fabulous. It's great for lunch and even better for dinner! On top of that, the staff is also wonderful including the owner!"

  • "Interesting dishes and very well executed. Some superb ! The atmosphere of the place needs work. It could be an airport lounge. Lighting, decor needs work to align with the food."

  • "The food is excellent & the people couldn't be nicer but Maysville needs to put down some rugs or acoustic tiles bc this place is so loud you will have to shout all night to have a conversation. I've been here twice and the second time asked for the back room, which is supposed to be quieter, but it was like sitting under a 747 vs. a rocket ship-- still awful. Which is really a shame bc the food is terrific and the Bourbon selection the best in city but I will never go back until they deal with the noise problem. I was hoarse the next day. I don't know how the staffers take it."

  • "They're appetizers and sharing plates are amazing with a unique, fun drink list. They're wait staff is friendly and pays attention to detail."

  • "Every dish was finished with far too much butter. Nothing tasted like it should've except my wife's fish. My pork belly & sausage? Too rich. Friend's rick chicken? Too rich. Every appetizer - too rich. Ugh. Someone was in the kitchen who shouldn't have been. I've eaten at Maysville many times and never had such terrible food put on my table. Total disappointment. First time for everything, I suppose. I'll try it again but if this is a new chef and new preparations, I won't be back after that."

  • "We greatly enjoyed the food at Maysville. The staff was courteous, enthusiastic and helpful. The ingredients were fresh and the food was delicious. Save room for the inventive and tasty dessert menu!"

  • "We knew we were in for some delicious dining after sampling the corn muffins (no sugar and moist, just like my Southern family in-law has been telling me is the ideal). All of the other dishes we ordered had that something extra that made you say "Wow!" Esp the whole hog pasta. Looking forward to a return visit. Thank you."

  • "Fantastic food and the most glorious drinks. Too bad they are often out of Laphroaig, as it is my favorite, but they have quite a selection regardless!"

  • "Sophisticated New York take on some Southern staples like grits and roasted oysters. Unparalleled whiskey selection."

  • "Our hotel bartender recommended this place for a group of four of us. We went there before a broadway play and the service was very personal and efficient. The appetizers were fantastic such as the roasted oysters and grit cakes. "

  • "Took my daughter and her boyfriend for dinner at the recommendation of a friend. What a find. The food is simply fantastic. We all ordered dessert simply because we had to see if the wonderfulness would continue and told them to bring whatever they wanted. The drink menu, all with the Kentucky theme, is awesome. If you like Whiskey you'll think you died and went to heaven. Service was awesome. We all had fish, and shared the smoked fish table spread to start. I cannot recommend this highly enough. Its new on the scene so you are dealing with mobs....yet."

  • "…stay for the hay-roasted oysters. While the massive collection behind the bar may give the impression that Maysville is all about the corn whiskey, the food is very impressive."

  • "Limited lunch menu.. Extremely noisy..food was tasty and well presented but not much better than lower priced places, ambiance very plain.. Service average"

  • "Love the food here. This is such a fun place though I have only been for lunch so far. I want to come back when I can sit at the bar and try the bourbons. The service was a problem but otherwise I'd say it's terrific. "

  • "Had never been to Maysville before. The place had a ton of energy and a great bar. We were seated at one of the few tables along the outside of the restaurant. It was a bit cramped but still relatively comfortable. The wait staff has a great knowledge of all the bourbons and ryes they serve. We got 3 great recommendations based on our preferences/tastes, and it will make me rethink bourbon as part of my drink sipping repetoire. The food was small and average. We had the oysters which was only 5 small pieces. The duck was cooked well, but it seemed much less than an entree portion. Still, I didn't come for the food, and I would come again to enjoy the atmosphere and ample brown liquor options."

  • "A friend recommended Maysville. I called to thank him! The selection of American whiskey is amazing. Our waiter suggested we try Pinhook. Great choice. Every dish was delicious. Definitely will go back. "

  • "As always, the menu is a perfect complement to the outstanding selection of spirits. Somehow, every dish has the character and assertiveness needed to balance your choice of alcohol. Further plus is the option of ordering several small pours so that you can compare and contrast, both with each other and with the food. Knowledgeable, professional and friendly service rounds out the picture. Immensely popular, I hope it will be with us for years."

  • "This is a strange fusion version that thinks it is Kentucky food but it is not. Not a single item on the menu would actually be served in Kentucky. Bourbon selection is above average for NYC but the bourbon cocktails are a little weird. "

  • "Went for brunch. Friendly hostess, and nice, efficient wait staff. The food stays faithful to Southern flavors and dishes without being heavy. I had the Crispy Grits and they were light and flavorful. Surprise additions were things like Green Tea, and other items that deviate from the more traditional Southern menu. The bar was beautiful to look. All in all, a good place for a relaxing meal."

  • "After a wonderful meal we only had enough room to split the Mint Pot de Creme, but it was phenomenal, well balanced and no too sweet, and very refreshing."

  • "I've been wanting to go here for awhile because everybody has been going nuts about this place. I've been hearing NOTHING but AMAZING things. The food was good, but I don't know that I would rave, rave, RAVE about it. The service was fantastic and the bar scene is great. It is a good place to go that isn't too, too loud but feels lively. You feel like there are cool people but you're not being shoved. I'd recommend it, but, again, I'm not so sure about all the hype."
