It is a little pricey, and a little far from our home but worth every penny and every mile! The Fish Special which happened to be arctic char was outstanding. The fish light and juicy, and the bed of vegetables, quinoa and fruit beneath complemented it perfectly. Chef Jared Scott is wonderful."

  • "Decided to have brunch at Maynards after being told it would be a 1.5 hour wait for a table at The Cup. I've really enjoyed all my experiences here in the past and this time was no different. The menu has not changed much which is fine, but for some reason the red velvet pancakes disappeared. They were replaced with apricot pancakes, and stone fruit pancakes just don't do it for me. Settled with beignets to start=super delight. I ordered the steak frites because it was my b-day and I rarely have red meat. I wanted to eat like a king. The frites here are always good, thanks to double blanching. But my steak was mangled by a child with a knife and it actually made it out of the kitchen plated. Thankfully the chef replaced it. Service was Pro."

The noise level can be a little high as the bar is located parallel to, and just a few feet from, the main dining area. On the positive side the bar and the noise level contribute to the energy of Maynards Kitchen."

  • "The Scrapple was so burnt it was black. No chef or waiter in their right mind would serve something like this. It was horrible. When we told the waiter he brought out a replacement dish one/fourth the portion as the burnt original on a small coffee saucer with no vegetable, no sauce, nothing... it was embarrassing and yet he delivered it to the table as if after being served burnt food, I'd somehow be delighted getting a joke on a saucer. Keep in mind this was a $24 dish. The Seafood Bouillabaisse... "edible" would best describe it. And the special of the night was clearly the restaurants way of dumping old fish on a customer so the garbage man would not have to carry it away the next day. It was awful. We lost $26 on that."

  • "Our first time dining since they changed Executive Chefs, and Maynard's hasn't missed a beat! Everything was excellent from my cocktail (a refreshing, gin-based concoction called "The Cooler") to my appetizer (heirloom tomato soup) to my main (Fish of the Day, one of the best trout dishes I've ever had). All courses were creatively prepared with fresh, seasonal ingredients. Maynards now has more competition downtown for our dining dollar, but based on this experience, it will definitely stay in the rotation."

  • "I was honored (and very lucky) to dine here for my Birthday with my husband. I had nothing to do with the reservation because this was all done for me by surprise! We toured the train station and took some pictures before entering the charming restaurant. We chose our meals and they accommodated special requests. We did three courses - duck confit poutine topped with foie gras, (my husband had mushroom en croute), braised lamb, (my husband had rare seared salmon) and local goat cheese cheesecake with figs!!! I cannot believe this place exists in Tucson - I felt like I was in French Laundry in Napa. We will return again and again!!!"

  • "I was excited to try the new summer menu at Maynards Kitchen, especially the Confit Duck Leg Salad (which was light and delicious). My guest and I enjoyed the intimate and educational experience and the visits by the Executive Chef himself. The staff was attentive and knowledgable and suggested excellent wine pairings.   • "From the moment we were seated and our waiter began to read his notes. Then we ordered a bottle of wine - 15-20 minutes passed before our waiter appeared to tell us he could not find it. We then gave the waiter 2 more options and he appeared another 10 minutes later. Mind you, we had already order our salads and dinner when we ordered the wine. Mussels were order by 2 in or party. One of the dishes had 6 that never opened. Burger was ordered med and when served was med rare and bun cold. We had been seated 2 hrs. before any food appeared. The server was clearly never trained and over his head. We noted to managers in suits standing around. One finally appeared and after hearing our nightmare, gave us 30% off our bill and removed the burger"

  • "Overall I enjoyed my food but there eere a couple of hiccups. My apricot pancakes started out great but when I got to the middle I found that they werent cooked through all the way. I told the waiter and he took them and broughte the veggie eggs benedict instead. They were great but I asked ahead of time what veggies were in it since I hate mushrooms and he listed them off not saying mushrooms, and sure enough they had mushrooms and no asparagus. My friends steak on her benedict was a little chewy. The champagne we ordered was out but we were given a nicer bottle for the same price which was quite nice. A fly bugged us the whole time which was probably the most annoying thing about the experience."

  • "We've been to Maynards now for both dinner and brunch. Being that it's in the old train depot, we LOVE the ambience, and I enjoy dining outside to watch the trains go by, but be prepared for the noise of trains. The inside is charming and intimate, and the food has always been terrific."

In the past couple of years, we have dined multiple times at Maynards, both inside the restaurant and outside on the spacious patio adjoining the passenger boarding area for the railroad. Each has an attractive ambience more typical of a New York bistro or a Paris sidewalk cafe, than southern Arizona. The menu will satisfy discerning palates, and includes a couple of appealing dishes for vegetarian or vegan requirements. Everyone we bring here is impressed by the food, the elegant setting, and the service. It's a great place to come with friends, or for a special romantic occasion."

  • "We saw the menu online and specifically chose this place for the French Soup. It was on the menu. The day we went, we were told it had been taken off the menu. Same with the grapefruit. The waiter didn't know it was on the menu until we pointed it out. Then he returned to tell us it was not on the "new menu"either. Pretty disappointing."

However, the a damper was put on the celebration when the hostess neglected to offer to speak to management when another table was requested and there were open tables available. We were seated at a four top in the far back corner without a view and my father requested another four top (there were at least four empty tables available) but was told they were reserved (we too had a reservation). It wasn't so much that we were not able to move, but the hostess didn't even offer to "see what she could do" and appeared to ignore that my father was not happy with the table and appeared that she didn't care. And, there was a 4 top that remained empty. The situation was handled poorly. "

  • "We had a fantastic nice quiet dinner, our reservation was at 6pm on a Saturday. Liked the valet parking. We had a couple of appetizers that were fantastic, the mushroom one everyone thought made the meal. The filet you could cut with a fork, I had some seafood with fresh veggies. Desserts were spot on also. Yes, a little pricey, especially drinks. It is a limited menu for sure as far as the main courses are concerned. Will be going back soon. "

  • "We first discovered Maynards when we were faced with a long wait at the Hotel Congress across the street. Our Mother's Day prix fixe meal was wonderful. As always the chef was able to accommodate my vegetarian practice with aplomb. Because of a call made regarding our reservation, the manager knew who we were when my wife arrived. Excellent, attentive and personal service - a real plus! We recommend Maynards without reservation and will return for special occasions again. "

Also, we chose to eat outdoors because we like the trains, but the inside looked very inviting too. Our server was very congenial and prompt. They have a good brunch menu. Since this was my first time at Maynards, that is all I can comment about. All in all a very nice experience. I will try it for dinner soon."

Our only complaint is the chairs: they are excruciating to sit on more than 15 minutes. Cushions would be highly recommended. Either that, or better chairs."

  • "The food was delicious, I loved that they had a vegetarian option that was thoughtfully prepared. However our server distracted us from the amazing food. Both being servers we understood why you choose to treat us the way you did, young people tip badly. From the moment you approached the table you seemed annoyed. When in fact we were ready to celebrate the fact we both landed killer jobs after graduation! We had been looking forward to coming in! You could have given great service and talked us in to a better wine, and dessert, and you would have been tipped really well. Instead you were condescending and unhelpful when we asked questions. So you received a bad tip, not because we are young, but because you gave poor service. "

  • "All of the appetizers were outstanding and exceeded our expectations. The dessert was very good. The main course was a disappointment. Either the duck or the lamb would have been fine as one of two choices - not both. The lamb and tough and hard to cut without a serrated knife. After working to cut it and chewing it for 5 minutes I had to spit it out because it wasn't breaking out and the duck was two greasy of me. My guest was also disappointed with the main course. Sorry, but you did ask."

  • "We needed a quick but good dinner before going to theater at 8:00. I shared a Kale, etc. salad that was delicious and and the nightly vegetable plate that was outstanding. I'm not a vegetarian by any means, but wanted something light as we were going to sit for two hours at theater. It was absolutely the best vegey plate I've ever had! My husband had the hamburger with extra crispy fries. He didn't care if he ate light:) It was delicious. The waiter was delightful and made sure we got our drinks and dinner in a timely manner so we could get to theater on time. Personally we would rather have sat for awhile and enjoyed dinner and the ambience for longer. "
