We were visiting our UA student in Tucson and had a wonderful day climbing Tumamoc, Sunday brunch at Maynard's and strolling 4th Avenue. Two of our son's UA students joined us for brunch and we all loved Maynard's great food and service!

The food and ambiance here is always good but it seems we came in on a night in which they were short staffed. The staff was apologetic and we were given an amuse bouche while our entrees took awhile but it was disheartening to notice others experiencing bad service as well. I will go back but maybe not for a little while.

My gnocci was overcooked and virtually tasteless- not worth eating. Noise level was so high that our group of 4 could not carry on a conversation. They used to offer free parking- now it's valet and they do not validate. This was a really good restaurant previously- it's really gone downhill and I probably won't go back- too many other good places in town.

We have eaten here many times, the cheese plates and salads are perfect. The Coq Au Vin was average, and the Pork Schnitzel had a little to flakey of a crust and was very flavorless. Could have used some lemon and salt. Great hangar steak and the last meal in our group was the burger. Always reliable, great size portion. I would say the cheese dishes were the highlight. Service as usual was fantastic.

My husband and I dined for the first time at Maynards on Friday, October 17, 2014. I ordered the NY Strip and it was delicious, juicy and tender. The mashed potatoes were creamy and served in small cast iron pot that kept them hot throughout the meal-just how I like my mashed potatoes! The brussel sprouts were tasty and had a slight crunch. We each had a wonderful sangria to start-not too sweet-no fruit juice taste. Our meal was topped off with an outstanding crème brulee. The train station atmosphere was unique and I would definitely call this restaurant a neighborhood gem.

The best part of my meal were the olives in their signature martini. The combo of bacon, blue cheese, and jalapeño was so good that I ordered two. Unfortunately, even two martinis did not make up for the disappointing poutine, the average steamed mussels, and the surprisingly bland mushroom appetizer. The apps were poor enough that we decided not to order entrees so we may have missed something great on the menu.

The room is very attractive and comfortable. Drink orders were taken but took a while to arrive. The chilled tomato soup was excellent. The poutine was ordered with fois gras, however the duck cracklings were nowhere to be found. NY steak was nicely prepared, as was the braised lamb and salmon. The plate chosen for the salmon made dining a challenge since the salmon is balanced on a mound of quinoa. Maynards does not seem to have a pastry chef as shown by the selection that night. We had the crepe cake, which looks promising with its layers and brulee top, but it is otherwise bland and uninteresting. To their credit, the cake was deleted from the bill. The restaurant has great potential, just not there yet.

I expected the food and service to be of a certain level and was very pleasantly surprised that the experience and the food far exceeded my expectations. The staff was very accommodating and attentive to our time constraints and still afforded us a lovely dining experience without feeling overly rushed. Very impressed with both regular menu entree selections, Diver Scallops & Salmon which were delicately and perfectly prepared. Supporting sides were wonderfully paired and everything was fresh, fresh, fresh! Waiter was very pleasantly helpful including with a lovely wine selection. Maynards Kitchen has definitely elevated to one of my favorite Tucson restaurants.

We easily made reservations through Open Table, our table was ready, service was very nice and attentive without being overbearing. The cold tomato-cucumber soup was outstanding and my filet was perfect. The side items of asparagus and a leek-potato gratin were divine. There was an outside event that was pretty loud and the bar service was a bit overwhelmed by it so our drinks were slow to arrive, but otherwise it was a great evening. I was even given a couple of scoops of divine chocolate ice cream as it was my birthday!

First of all, this review is for the Australian wine dinner, not held in the restaurant proper. The wines were very good, though served in small portions; the fault lay in the food, which I did not think was up to their usual excellent standard. First course, a potato square, served cold, was just alright; scallop was served in a broth which was sour, not appealing (and my potato was raw, not al dente); third was a small "pot pie", which was ok (my husband liked it); the entree was rack of lamb; my husbands was rare, but good (I tried it), while mine was extremely rare, and I was not able to remove it from the bone, so it was sadly left uneaten; dessert was enjoyed . (no coffee was served, which I missed).

My son's appetizer, dinner and dessert were delicious (PEI mussels, bouillabaise and chocolate bouchon w/ homemade vanilla ice cream). Mine were mediocre at best (heirloom tomato salad, lamb shank and crème brulee). The tomatoes were unripe and hard; the lamb shank was dry and tasteless and served with too much equally tasteless spaetzle. The crème brulee tasted like store bought vanilla pudding. Not worth the $125 price tag for dinner (excluding tip). For a restaurant with a large wine list, the choices for wine by the glass were poor. I do have to say, the service was great.

My husband, whose last name is Maynard, and I decided to celebrate our anniversary here. We love the ambience and the food. It is a little pricey, and a little far from our home but worth every penny and every mile! The Fish Special which happened to be arctic char was outstanding. The fish light and juicy, and the bed of vegetables, quinoa and fruit beneath complemented it perfectly. Chef Jared Scott is wonderful.

Decided to have brunch at Maynards after being told it would be a 1.5 hour wait for a table at The Cup. I've really enjoyed all my experiences here in the past and this time was no different. The menu has not changed much which is fine, but for some reason the red velvet pancakes disappeared. They were replaced with apricot pancakes, and stone fruit pancakes just don't do it for me. Settled with beignets to start=super delight. I ordered the steak frites because it was my b-day and I rarely have red meat. I wanted to eat like a king. The frites here are always good, thanks to double blanching. But my steak was mangled by a child with a knife and it actually made it out of the kitchen plated. Thankfully the chef replaced it. Service was Pro.

Maynards is one of my favorite restaurants in Tucson. The venue is unique, located in the historic Tucson Train Depot. The food is consistently very good and the service is excellent. The noise level can be a little high as the bar is located parallel to, and just a few feet from, the main dining area. On the positive side the bar and the noise level contribute to the energy of Maynards Kitchen.

The Scrapple was so burnt it was black. No chef or waiter in their right mind would serve something like this. It was horrible. When we told the waiter he brought out a replacement dish one/fourth the portion as the burnt original on a small coffee saucer with no vegetable, no sauce, nothing... it was embarrassing and yet he delivered it to the table as if after being served burnt food, I'd somehow be delighted getting a joke on a saucer. Keep in mind this was a $24 dish. The Seafood Bouillabaisse... "edible" would best describe it. And the special of the night was clearly the restaurants way of dumping old fish on a customer so the garbage man would not have to carry it away the next day. It was awful. We lost $26 on that.

Our first time dining since they changed Executive Chefs, and Maynard's hasn't missed a beat! Everything was excellent from my cocktail (a refreshing, gin-based concoction called "The Cooler") to my appetizer (heirloom tomato soup) to my main (Fish of the Day, one of the best trout dishes I've ever had). All courses were creatively prepared with fresh, seasonal ingredients. Maynards now has more competition downtown for our dining dollar, but based on this experience, it will definitely stay in the rotation.

I was honored (and very lucky) to dine here for my Birthday with my husband. I had nothing to do with the reservation because this was all done for me by surprise! We toured the train station and took some pictures before entering the charming restaurant. We chose our meals and they accommodated special requests. We did three courses - duck confit poutine topped with foie gras, (my husband had mushroom en croute), braised lamb, (my husband had rare seared salmon) and local goat cheese cheesecake with figs!!! I cannot believe this place exists in Tucson - I felt like I was in French Laundry in Napa. We will return again and again!!!

From the moment we were seated and our waiter began to read his notes. Then we ordered a bottle of wine - 15-20 minutes passed before our waiter appeared to tell us he could not find it. We then gave the waiter 2 more options and he appeared another 10 minutes later. Mind you, we had already order our salads and dinner when we ordered the wine. Mussels were order by 2 in or party. One of the dishes had 6 that never opened. Burger was ordered med and when served was med rare and bun cold. We had been seated 2 hrs. before any food appeared. The server was clearly never trained and over his head. We noted to managers in suits standing around. One finally appeared and after hearing our nightmare, gave us 30% off our bill and removed the burger

Overall I enjoyed my food but there eere a couple of hiccups. My apricot pancakes started out great but when I got to the middle I found that they werent cooked through all the way. I told the waiter and he took them and broughte the veggie eggs benedict instead. They were great but I asked ahead of time what veggies were in it since I hate mushrooms and he listed them off not saying mushrooms, and sure enough they had mushrooms and no asparagus. My friends steak on her benedict was a little chewy. The champagne we ordered was out but we were given a nicer bottle for the same price which was quite nice. A fly bugged us the whole time which was probably the most annoying thing about the experience.
