Diner Reviews
  • "The food here is spot on, perfect and the margaritas are unique and delicious. We will be back frequently!"

  • "Food was OK tastewise. Very small portions for tapas even, sloppy plating. Subsided mostly on chips because our food took an hour to come -- meanwhile the table next to us kept getting plates delivered. No apologies from staff either. They were pretty good about refilling drinks, though. Overall, would not come back."

  • "It has been quite a while since I have done brunch at Maya, but there were a number of changes to the menu since my last visit. Still very good, but some of the new items missed the mark and my group really missed some of the old items like the flatbreads. Our server was excellent and we still had a good time, but the common conversation was how much better it used to be. A little disappointing."

  • "Terrific food; fresh, authentic Mexican cuisine, attentive, friendly service, reasonable prices."

  • "I will begin this review with the fact that I am in the restaurant business, and my experience left a lot to be desired. The only good thing about my meal was the guacamole. My service was sub par as we waited 25 minutes for the check to be dropped, as well as a long time to get a second drink from our her. In addition, I found a black hair in my entree but was so close to the end of the meal, that I did not want to make a big deal about it. I will not be returning."

  • "Wide selection of tasty small plates and a good number of drink options. Lively atmosphere, great for groups, may be a little on the loud side if you're looking for a place to go on a date. All in all a very positive experience, would definitely recommend and will be returning."

  • "Excellent food and service - my only real caveat is the lighting - basically feast or famine - either one is under white hot halogens that the management can't seem to dim, or it's Stygian darkness - I've experienced both here - go with the darkness! I will give them an A for effort - they did try to dim our section, the booths, but succeeded only in plunging the other side of the restaurant into darkness. The noise level is pretty intense, but the energy is great and food creative and delicious. If you like hot Maya is for you - the habenero blood orange margarita is a must"

  • "The guacamole was customized and came out wrong. Also looks really creamy like store bought. The portions of it were small aswell. The mole sauce was just alright. The plantains were not sweet. The pepino cocktail was very good. We tried the flautas they were tasty.. some tweaking and they have a nice spot."

  • "Great meal and cocktails as always but this time we were very diasppointed with the waiter. He did not speak/understand English well enough to communicate effectively. We asked for a side of steamed veggies but rec'd jicama and cucumbers instead. Delcious but not in 20 degree weather. And we settled on an entree different than what we really wanted because we had to ask him to repeat several times the specials and menu items to no avail. We look forward to our next visit with a different waiter."

  • "I took my family who was visiting from DC there. the food was good, service attentive without being overwhelming. They had margaritas which they liked a lot, I enjoyed my red wine. Family friendly place!"

  • "This unicorn in NYC is an amazing choice for brunch. The Bottomless Margarita Brunch is the best deal in NYC and probably anywhere for that matter. The food was delicious and the service was very good. Excellent choice for groups as well."

  • "For $39 you get all you can eat & drink for 2 hours. It was really great! While the food wasn't outstanding it was enjoyable and the small plates allowed us to try a bunch of different things. Service was really wonderful Daniel was our waiter he was very sweet & attentive. I can't wait to go back!"

  • "We revisited recently with friends who drove in an hour to meet us. Our 11 yr old ordered a virgin daquiri. It would have helped if the waiter had told us it was not frozen, because we ended up returning it. We ordered an appetizer which sat on the table for a few minutes until we were brought plates. The apps were delicious, as were the sugared doughnuts for dessert. The entrees were good, not great, though. The Mahi Mahi did not come with a side of rice and beans, was slightly overcooked, and was a little spicy, even though the waiter said it wasn't. No one said "that was great" about the meal. Maya has a nice atmosphere with an upscale Mexican menu, but the food wasn't as tasty as we hoped."

  • "I first tried Maya in April 2013 was wasn't impressed, being from Los Angeles I have a high bar for quality Mexican food. I gave it another shot last week and while they get an A for effort, the main course was below average."

  • "I love to visit Maya, it is a great place to eat and drink in Manhattan Upper East side. The service is a little slow, but we were not in a hurry and the place was so full that it is expected."

  • "Our group of four arrived on time for our dinner reservation on Sunday night. Maya told us then that they did not serve their NYC Week Restaurant Menu on Sunday nights. That shocked us because Maya is shown on OpenTable as serving dinners with the NYC Week Restaurant Menu on Sundays and we had booked there for this reason. Maya quickly relented and offered us to select anything on their regular menu for the same price ($38) for each of us. That was very nice. The food and service were excellent."

  • "This place was extremely noisy and filled with what looked like frat brothers and sorority sisters. One table of 8guys we actually play a drinking game at their table and loud enough for everyone to participate."

  • "Overall Maya did a good job from the atmosphere to the dining. Was able to make an easy reservation and upon arrival stopped at the bar to catch the Happy Hour special and enjoyed a good dinner. Like the options available to choose from on the menu, a nice combination of different dishes to choose from."

  • "I'm a bit of a regular at Maya; I very much enjoy their food and their atmosphere. Prices are very reasonable. I think my absolute favorite dishes would be the tuna tartare guacamole and the smoked brisket tacos. I most recently made reservations with Maya for Valentine's Day. As with most any dining establishment, they were packed. However, the servers and waiters/waitresses did an excellent job of tending to our needs. The prix fixe menu was excellent, though a departure from my usual fare at this establishment. A bit loud, but we had a nice cozy corner which helped dampen ambient sound."

  • "Skip this one, as Rosa Mexicana is right down to street. Forget the romance on Valentines Day, this crowded place use to have attention to detail. Now lack of good attention, really bad service and an unfavorful, best items, menu has been its decline. If the horrible service and atmosphere isn't enough, the inconsistant desserts, along with overpricing, will grab you!"

  • "We were visiting NYC for Valentine's Weekend and booked a reservation at Maya. Our 9 pm reservation wasn't accepted until about 9:30, where we awkwardly waited at the bar, and when we were seated, we were literally at a makeshift table made of a card table with a tablecloth over it. The food and cocktails were excellent but at $65 per person for the 4 course dinner, the romantic ambiance was nonexistent and we felt completed cheated. Not even our candles were lit. I would go back for the excellent drinks, but I would not go out of my way to go back."

  • "We had to ask for the special menu's that other had and we were not provided. Food was not bad but not good either, I'm pretty sure the Chilean sea bass was actually bad and we did not eat it. We told the manager who didn't seem to care, he did offer to get us something else but at that point we were finished eating. He did not take it off the bill. Drinks are very good. Very nice atmosphere. Would only go back for drinks."

  • "The food was delicious. We ordered the bacon guacamole, which was delicious with a nice crunch. Then we both ordered tacos (adobo and chicken), both had a great flavor though they were a tad dry. Even with the minor gripe from the tacos, our experience was beyond enjoyable and this is definitely somewhere that I would enjoy going back to in the future."
