Diner Reviews
  • "Maya had delicious food and drinks and a great wait staff too!"

  • "It may be slightly pricey for some, but the bottomless brunch where everyone gets to order and eat off each other's plates is great for a group."

  • "Slow service tonight. Waiter was overly flirty/playful and (overheard) customers didn't seem to care much for it. Ladies bathroom is so small! Only 2 stalls for such a large restaurant. Food was good. Wish the skirt steak came w/ rice. Didn't like the taste of their tap water."

  • "The $40 brunch option is a great deal! Lots of food & lots of alcohol. You get your money's worth!"

  • "Maya was once a terrific Mexican restaurant serving inventive food but all that's changed. This time the food was really just passable and the decor is amateurish. Sorry."

  • "I tried this place out with my mom on a whim at the last minute. We wanted to have dinner on Sunday and found this place offering Sunday dinner for NYC restaurant week. We were able to secure a last minute reservation. What a nice surprise when we walked in the décor was lovely. A lot of places skimp on the menu that they offer for restaurant week only having small items that they don't serve on there regular menu. This was not the case at Maya. We were pleasantly surprised to find everything that we ordered available on the regular menu. Everything we had was very good and I will be back! Spicy Crab Guacamole is a must! Entrée of Carne Asada was Everything! Really Great Place with Great Service!"

  • "My husband and I got a "We Miss You" email and decided to return and take advantage of the 25% discount. The food was SO delicious! I had the tortilla chicken soup which was spicy with a wonderful combination of flavors. Then I had the steak tacos which was served with a nice complimentary sauce. My husband had a steak entree which was cooked to perfection. For dessert, we shared warm doughnuts which came with both a chocolate and caramel dipping sauce. I might add that the coffee was delicious as well. The service was superb. Overall, I would definitely recommend this restaurant. During the summer months, people are away and the restaurant is quiet. However, during the other seasons, it is hopping like mad! It is fine dining at its best!"

  • "The food and service is superb. If you're looking for a chill brunch spot, come here. And make sure you come hungry, you WILL get stuffed!"

  • "Apparently maya is great for brunch, but it's dinner was woefully disappointing. Nothing had any real taste to it, and the portions were strangely small. The sangria tasted like fruit juice, the "spicy" guacamole was bland, and tacos/enchiladas were creations that a 4th grader could make: melted cheese in a tortilla. There are much better options in the area, and certainly restaurants for this price range."

  • "The Service is excellent. Most of the food is also excellent, however the Restaurant Week menu was a disappointing 3 choices, a fish choice would have been appreciated . One of the hangar steak entrees was almost too tough to eat. Generally a good fun place. Hopefully next Lyme will be back up to standard"

  • "We are in NYC frequently for business and we like to eat where the locals eat. This is that kind of place. The ambiance is great the food is great and the guac is one of the best I've ever had. It's spicy like Mexican should. They have an extensive tequila list and several different kinds of Margaritas. The pork carnitas won the prize for best plate of the night. We will definitly return to Maya."

  • "The food was excellent, the service was good, but by the time we finished our meal we couldn't wait to leave just because of the noise."

  • "This wonderful restaurant has got to be my best find thanks to Restaurant Week. The Food was truly excellent. The various dishes were exceptional with flavor and satisfying portions. The service was very attentive, yet not intrusive. The bar is very inviting, cocktails were well made, and the restaurant seating is very comfortable. The decor is well done in its simplicity. And lastly, even with a full house one's conversations were not competing with other's."

  • "Our first visit to Maya was a Saturday brunch. My wife and I wanted to try someplace new, and we were not disappointed. The food was terrific, the staff were friendly, and the service was quick and efficient. The small plates were both delicious and filling. We will be back!"

  • "Maya's all you can eat and drink for $39 was definitely worth it. There were plenty of tasty food options and various drink choices as well. The food was great for sharing (tapas) nd you could order as much as you want which is great for a group. All in all, a good brunch experience and I will definitely go back."

  • "I was surprised to learn that unless everyone at the table ordered from the restaurant week menu, I couldn't order from it. Also the restaurant is extraordinarily noisy."

  • "The food was delicious, the waiters were friendly and nice, but the hostess SNF the bartender were a bit unfriendly and cold. The bar tender seemed very fake and didn't care to return my change. I had to ask for it. Overall, I enjoyed my food and the waiters made up for the bar tender's behavior."

  • "This review is strictly for Maya's Sunday brunch. We chose to eat here for my friends birthday and Maya didn't disappoint. We arrived at 1:30pm and received prompt seating. I would definitely recommend their boozy brunch which includes unlimited drinks, margaritas, bloody Mary's, mango mimosas, etc, AND unlimited food. The menu had a wide range of items from huevos rancheros to gordita sliders. I would definitely recommend the French Toast (it came with Nutella!), the fried potatoes and the open faced quesadilla. The food was delicious but nothing in particular stood out. The waiters make sure that your glass is never empty and they actually walk around with pitchers of mango/regular mimosas."

  • "While the food at Maya is very good the tequila fueled din that accompanies it ruined our experience altogether. The staff is pleasant and found us a table away from the bar but unfortunately that space was quickly filled with the two large tables whose occupants had to speak and cackle quite loudly in order to be hear. If you do decide to brave the noise the margaritas, tacos alahambre, huitlacoche enchiladas and chocoflan were quite tasty. Will never, however, have them again."

  • "as always, a friendly greeting, great service and cuisine! Like the new additions to the menu!"

  • "I must start off by saying I love Maya and Richard Sandavol! I have come to Maya many times and even had my favorite server (Michael!)and place to sit. The food is great, but the service and servers have changed. I felt rushed and it was not a lot of people in the restauarant at 11:30am ( one party of 6, a couple of parties of 2 and 3). Our server was nice, but was trying to get us to hurry and order, and she didn't want us to order another round of small plates or drinks. In fact, she suggested the pan de dulce as dessert to "wrap things up" and said she could go ahead and put the order in. We were only on our first round! Calm down and let people enjoy the food and drinks that they are paying for, please."

  • "Our daughter recommended this and near us - so we tried it out. Although service a tad slow the food made up for it.. Very good!"

  • "The restaurant is super loud. We were not even on the bar side and it was hard to hear the person across the table."

  • "The tamale sampler was a fun starter. I loved the corn one the best."

  • "I dined at Maya with a friend last week. We had reservations but we were early and they did accomodate and sat us right away; service all in all was good. The first thing we noticed was the after work crowd and the noise level; soooo loud!!! Had the food been exceptional we would have tolerated it; but it was 'meh'. Not the worst but certainly not the best with the exception if the guac which was quite tasty. The ceviche was okay but the carne assada was tough and tasteless. My friend enjoyed the tortilla soup but the enchiladas were average at best. The 'regular' margaritas were average and the chili mango margaritas way too spicy...it was all we could taste. We go to NYC annually but we we not go back to Maya...no love in tbe food!"

  • "Amazing food and service. Wonderful options for vegans and vegetarians."

  • "As much as I enjoy the food at Maya, it is not a pleasant dining experience. My shrimp special, recommended by our very charming waiter was delicious. However, the noise level is excruciating - a situation that could be easily fixed with some sound-proofing."

  • "Drinks too weak. Order wine or beer instead of cocktails."
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "All you can eat AND drink for only ~$50 with tax and tip. The food is phenomenal and the drinks are even better. The all you can eat and drink menu is extensive with lots to choose if you are in a big group. Great for going for a special occasion and sharing family style. The restaurant itself is big and beautiful. One of the only places I will venture back to the UES for. The service was exceptional as well! Thanks for making my parent's anniversary celebration a hit!"

  • "We always love any excuse for an evening or lunchtime excursion to Maya. It is reliably excellent and the gourmet Mexican cuisine is also attractively presented. It is a cheerful place and everyone we have ever brought there has loved the experience -- and returned if they were "local"."
