Maya has seemingly gone downhill since its peak several years ago. The food simply wasn't that good; margaritas were pretty good. Come for happy hour and hang out in the lounge area but skip dinner service!

This is my second time to Maya for brunch and it's been great. The restaurant itself is a very large, open-space with great decor, and windows that open to the patio. Service this time was phenomenal and the bottomless brunch options are always very flavorful. I would definitely recommend this venue to any friends.

Great brunch menu with unlimited tapas & drinks for two hours. There is plenty to choose from for everyone and with all dietary restrictions. My friends and I tried a number of different dishes to the point where we we stuffed. Staff was very attentive, and we never had to wait around to order more food.

Maya is nice inside and the menu is certainly high end Mexican. Guacamole is simply served and tasty. Mahi Mahi was good on a Napa cabbage bed; presentation is colorful and pretty. Prices are high.

We were visiting NYC for the weekend and I was looking for something different to try. I Google'd Richard Sandoval after visiting one of his restaurants in Denver, Tamayo, back in February and came across Maya. We loved Tamayo and we loved Maya. Service was excellent and our waitress made suggestions that ultimately chose (filet dish and a lobster/shrimp dish) and enjoyed. Although the restaurant was a little loud, it was not that annoying. I will definitely try this one again with other friends when I return. I'm looking forward to trying more Richard Sandoval places.

Although this place was highly recommended, everything was underwhelming. Dining room was 2/3 empty at 8:30 on a Sat night. I asked for a more romantic table thru open table which the hostess acknowledged and then sat us on the bench inches from 2 other couples. When we asked to be moved we caught some attitude before making the move. Overall, very unfriendly and un-NY.

Despite a friendly staff and a warm welcome, I cannot recommend Maya. The best things were the antojito (chile relleno) and the desserts, a coconut flan and another whose name I cannot recall (something "deconstructed"). These were truly wonderful. However the carnitas and short ribs were dry and chewy, and I personally did not enjoy the raisins in the sauce for the ribs, though it was probably included in the description and an oversight of mine, so I cannot fault them for it.

Food is great at Maya and ive been several times. This past time I went with my husband we were seated next to another table of two and the Manager kept standing in between our tables to speak with the people next to us. Guacamole isnt as great with someones behind in your face. I asked if he was the manager and he said yes, then i asked if he could stop standing there as it was very unenjoyable, he seemed to not care at all. Really great for a manager of a restaurant to not care about the people eating there. Also, the noise was off the charts! Not sure if its the new design or what but we wont be going back for a while.

Recommend the Carnitas and the Mahi Mahi. The guacamole was perfectly balanced with the flavors of avocado, lime, cilantro, tomato and. Cayenne. We were so happy to find this upscale Mexican cantina. We'll be back! The bar scene on arrival is very loud however the dining room while not quiet, is enjoyable.

I've been here twice for brunch and truly enjoyed it. This time I came in for a late lunch immediately getting off the train. The restaurant was in between meals (2:30-3:30 pm) so there was only one other table besides ours. The food was great, as the other times I have been in. We loved the Maya Mojito too. Yum! Will be back to try for dinner some time in the future.

BRUNCH ONLY REVIEW - I have been Maya several times now and have introduced several friends and they all agree that it's an amazing spot for brunch. First of all, $39 for unlimited food and drinks how could you go wrong? If that wasn't enough they have 4 different flavors of mimosas that they offer at brunch along with other drinks and the food is great. The brunch menu is a mix of mexican and american favorites so its easy to find something for everyone. The staff is also attentive and the food is served quickly.

We used to live across the street and hadn't been back since we moved years ago. Food is still excellent. At first, we thought it would be too noisy to chat because of the din from the serious bar scene but the hostess sat us in the back and it was perfect. The drinks were great, as were. The salads, but I think next time I will stick with the tried and true guacamole. We tried the sampler and it was just ok. (I appreciated that the waiter warned us about the one with grasshoppers which we declined.) Soups were very good and the tacos were delicious. I have had fish there before which is always good. Excellent presentation, lovely wait staff, and all in all, a great place to have high end Mexican food.

I tried this place out with my mom on a whim at the last minute. We wanted to have dinner on Sunday and found this place offering Sunday dinner for NYC restaurant week. We were able to secure a last minute reservation. What a nice surprise when we walked in the décor was lovely. A lot of places skimp on the menu that they offer for restaurant week only having small items that they don't serve on there regular menu. This was not the case at Maya. We were pleasantly surprised to find everything that we ordered available on the regular menu. Everything we had was very good and I will be back! Spicy Crab Guacamole is a must! Entrée of Carne Asada was Everything! Really Great Place with Great Service!

My husband and I got a "We Miss You" email and decided to return and take advantage of the 25% discount. The food was SO delicious! I had the tortilla chicken soup which was spicy with a wonderful combination of flavors. Then I had the steak tacos which was served with a nice complimentary sauce. My husband had a steak entree which was cooked to perfection. For dessert, we shared warm doughnuts which came with both a chocolate and caramel dipping sauce. I might add that the coffee was delicious as well. The service was superb. Overall, I would definitely recommend this restaurant. During the summer months, people are away and the restaurant is quiet. However, during the other seasons, it is hopping like mad! It is fine dining at its best!
