My wife and I live in Oak Park and Maya del Sol is part of our usual places to have good food and celebrate special events. Last Friday (November 21st, 2014) we went for dinner and listened to great "oldies but goodies" music with the voice of David Blamires and the great bassist Steve Rodby (former Pat Metheny Group). What a treat!

Got together for a brunch with a group of ex-coworkers. I'm biased because I love this place and for most of the group it was their first time there. We pretty much ordered different dishes and then shared a lot. I had the pork belly Bendicto and it was amazing. I suggest drizzling some syrup on the pork for some added flavor. Next was the Mercado; a sausage, vegetable, peppers, potatoes and egg skillet. Chilaquiles were awesome though they are not my thing. Tortilla chips sautéed in a slightly spicy tomatillo sauce. Then there is the Strawberry Banana French Toast. OMG! It even comes with a side of ice cream! Lastly a couple people ordered the Ropa Vieja skillet. A sweet and spicy cuban style stew with plantains and some eggs.

My wife, adult daughter and i have been to Maya countless times since it opened 5 years ago and have NEVER been disappointed. The wait staff, management, bar team and even the bus boys are perfectly attentive without becoming invasive. I think I have tried every menu item and enjoyed them all. I'd never tried the filet until the last visit and it was so well prepared I may not need to visit another Chicago steakhouse again. Oh, the guacamole is not on the menu but available on request. The proprietor wont like this AND you could make a meal of the guac and complimentary chips and salsa. Heartily recommended!

This is a restaurant that shouldn't be missed! Worth the drive out from Chicago. An amazing outdoor dinning area with level of service unparalleled to many restaurants. The sophisticated Mexican plates were perfectly done with equally impressive drink menu. Specialty drinks were fresh and each a great twist to a traditional margarita. Ambience was enjoyable and don't be afraid to bring the entire family! Price is definitely the higher end of Mexican but plates are not the typical food of most Mexican restaurants - don't expect fajitas or quesadillas here!

Everything was excellent and our waiter was excellent once we got one. We had to wait before a asking if there was any to serve us. They seemed embarrassed and rushed to find someone. I don't know if it was because they were shorthanded and busy that this occurred but it was resolved after waiter arrived.

The garden had a firepot and propane heaters that would have been nice if the weather turned cooler, a nice inssurance policy. In mid September they were unnecessary. Service was prompt and watchful, my glass never ran dry. Perhapsd too many choices for margutitas, delicious. Food cooking and presentation way above par. Scollops were hot and tender. The cake had 4 candles, understating the annuity.

Maya del Sol continues to be one of my family's favorite restaurants in the Chicago area. Wonderful for brunch for the whole family, lovely and romantic for a date night, beautiful on the back patio, and always delicious. It's our go-to place to bring friends in from out of town, and everyone loves it. Get any of the ceviches. And the mussels. And the scallops. And the carne asada. And the braised beef nachos. And the calabaza rellena. And any of their specialty drinks. If Maya del Sol were open for breakfast, we'd go before work!

I have been wanting to go to this restaurant since it opened. Finally got the chance the other day. It is only open for dinner, so that was part of the problem. The food is really delicious. We shared the plantain appetizer and it was authentic Mexican. Plantain, shredded meat and white cheese. My husband had the tilapia and he devoured it. Perfectly cooked with grilled vegetables. I had the cochinita pibil. It was served with black beans and homemade tortillas. While it was a bit salty, the beans were totally bland, so they married well. We had the dessert combination: tres leeches cake, flan, and a cheesecake with dulce de leche. All were very light and tasty. We look forward to going back.
