Diner Reviews
  • "We've eaten here a handful of times now, and have never been disappointed. I was so glad to see that they finally take reservations for groups smaller than 6! Before, it was always a deterrent to try to get a table on a weekend night. Our server was attentive, making great recommendations for food and drink. The rest of the waitstaff was on top of things as well, clearing plates, wiping the table, etc. The food is always spectactular and the red sangria is beyond. We will keep coming back!"

  • "Leaving the Windy City on my way to ORD Stopped in for a quick bite and much to my surprise I was greeted with smiles Great Chips and Salsa-made on site. To celebrate my friend we had Crab Cakes, Kale Salad with St. Germain Cocktails on the side. Great Little Neighborhood Gem."

  • "Went there for Sunday brunch and I have to say Maya del sol's brunch was OK. They're dinner menu surpasses what we all ate for brunch. My veggie skillet was oily and brunt. The potatoes were soggy and salty and the eggs were undercooked. Not at all what I was expecting for my first Maya brunch outing. I'll stick to their dinner menu."

  • "This was our first visit and we are really surprised. The food was excellent, our waiter Joshua - gem. We wish every restaurant would have waiters like Joshua. Friendly atmosphere, we had a great time and already have a plans to go with our friends. Thank you."

  • "This is perhaps my favorite restaurant in all of Oak Park. We have been here many times, for dinner as well as special occassions, but this was our first time for brunch. The food is always great and you can't beat the service, even when they're busy. HIGHLY recommend."

  • "Really wonderful dishes-unique and flavorful. Great service and much quieter than a weekend night."

  • "Best fish tacos (cod version)--fish and pickled relish unbelievably good!"

  • "We really enjoyed our meal on last Saturday. We also had dessert and that was great too."

  • "great food as always..a place to go for a special occasion"

  • "We happened to go on an evening when the restaurant was hosting a large political party. Even though we were dining in the private event room, it was still an excellent experience. The staff was outstanding and they were extremely attentive to the diners and respectful and helpful to other staff. I originally went to Maya Del Sol to see the environment, check out the food and discuss a prospective business dinner with the event coordinator. I was blown away and will definitely be bringing my company to this restaurant next month."

  • "Put simply; great service and food tasted like an old grandma cooked it but beyond crowded and noisy."

  • "My only tiny complaint was that at the end of the meal we were interested in dessert. Our server dropped off dessert menus and then disappeared for upwards of 15 minutes. We actually had to go find him, and by that time it had taken so long we just asked for the check. Maybe next time we'll get to try dessert :-/ Beyond that everything was wonderful!"

  • "I brought a foodie friend from out of town to Maya Del Sol for her second trip. Her first trip with me was several years ago, and she was quite impressed with how much more upscale the food and presentation were. I'm a frequent diner here, and always enjoy the experience. Love it!"

  • "I took my sister there when she came to down because she had just turned 21, and we had heard that the drink selection was fun and tasty. Indeed it certainly was! We had fun picking out drinks, and the waiter assured us that if we didn't like them that we could send them back. The dinner was also delicious, and there were many great vegetarian options for us. Finally, because he knew that it had recently been my sister's birthday, our salted caramel cheesecake mousse was on the house. Truthfully, the dessert was among my top three that I have ever had! The atmosphere was very friendly and upbeat, and I will definitely be going back! Thank you!"

  • "Usually love food @ Maya del Sol. Brunch was erratic. Some dishes quite nice, especially traditionally Mexican dishes. (Chicken enchiladas worth eggs). And the veggie skillet was good too. But chocolate pancakes with strawberry compote had a few small bits of chocolate and a single chopped strawberry. French Toast w/mango & blueberries was similar."

  • "Maya Del Sol is one of our favorite restaurants. The food choices always have an interesting Latin/Caribbean fusion twist. From the salad to the dessert, the flavors were fabulous. Our daughter used Maya Del Sol as her caterer for her wedding because of their delectable meals. The serving staff was extremely attentive. My water glass was never empty--they kept filling it even though there was a bottle of water on the table and I could pour the water myself. You can't beat that kind of service. Our server knew the menu, offered suggestions and was equally attentive. We couldn't have asked for a better evening. In spite of the snow falling again, the restaurant had a great crowd."

  • "Maya del Sol presents food in a unique way that is beautiful and delicious. Drinks are high quality and interesting. The servers know the food and beverages well and make great recommendations. You definitely need reservations because Maya is almost always packed. Love the guacamole, ceviche, tacos, Carne asada, salmon, scallops, mussels, and all of the vegetarian entrees. Can't go wrong!"

  • "Maya del Sol is one of our favorite restaurants! Service is always great, food is amazing. They make excellent cocktails and the wine list is too. The staff is always good at explaining specials and helping with wime pairings. The patio is one of the best in the area."

  • "Wife and I went this weekend on the advice of a friend. Forget driving into the city; Maya Del Sol is among the best in the city. Creative Latin dishes cooked to perfection. Excellent service. Unique Latin-inspired cocktails. I always seems to leave Frontera and Topolo a little disappointed. Maya Del Sol is our new goto Latin restaurant. Bonus that it's only a short drive away."

  • "We went with another couple and had a very tasty meal. The menu is not your typical Tex-Mex, but rather has a number of innovative dishes. The plantain appetizer was especially good. Service was good, especially by the folks bringing out food and clearing the table. Our server seemed a bit overworked but got everything right in the end. It's a good thing we were in the room at the rear because the noise level would have been too much for relaxed conversation in the bar area. This is a very popular spot and reservations are mandatory on a weekend evening."

  • "Though the drinks are a bit expensive, the food is reasonably priced and delicious! Everyone at our table of 5 loved our entrees. It was fun to try something new, the ceveche trio. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "I have dined at Maya del Sol twice and both times have found the servers to be exceedingly knowledgeable about both the food and the drinks. Food is almost always outstanding with the occasional dish that doesn't quite live up to the awesomeness of everything else on the table. Which does nothing to diminish the rest of the meal, just encourages more fork-stealing off of other plates."

  • "The food was good but nothing spectacular. The service was great: Valet was immediate, seating was immediate, and server was attentive. The band was also great though I was disappointed that they did not play any latin music."

  • "Went for brunch this time. Was disappointed that they were somehow out of Bloody Mary's, one of the special treats for brunch. However, as always the food was really wonderful and the servers friendly and knowledgeable."

  • "Maya Del Sol has turned into our special occasion spot and if we lived any closer, we would definitely visit more often! Great, fun ambience! Wonderful and different approach to its food offerings making it truly stand out -- a huge cut-above the mediocre fare that most places serve these days. While it's not cheap, the quality of food, seasonal offerings, attentive/very professional wait staff and the different takes on its margaritas combine to make Maya Del Sol a great place to dine. While we love to sit outside on the patio in warm weather months, we recently visited on a frosty Sat night and had an equally outstanding experience inside. Whether it's the fish tacos, or a "special menu" pork chop, you won't be disappointed."

  • "The food here is great.Whenever there has been a glitch there has been an excellent response from Maya. The portions seem to be getting smaller.I used to take home food but now can eat it all..this is not a complaint but just info.. The salsas were homemade and fresh..one seemed sweet but liked it too.You can tell they use fresh chili peppers..makes a big difference. I have recommended Maya to others who also have liked it..great local spot if you live close by, but also worth the drive if you don't."

  • "We found this place using OpenTable looking at the reviews. We had an outstanding dinner and experience from start to finish. Given the snow and popularity the reservations were running behind and we received a phone call from Maya letting us know in advance which was appreciated. The food was outstanding - you must try the nachos. The variety of foods ensures that everyone will find something that they love. And I must tell you our waitress was the best - thorough, polite, willing to take time to answer our questions, give advice (eg nachos), yet also very efficient. We will be back."

  • "Service was great, Food was amazing, but it was a tad loud at our table near the bar. What was also great was even though we were late for our reservation wet got seated very quickly.... Love that place! Would definitely go again!"

  • "I heard the food was great then finally got a chance to experience it. The white wine sangria was delish and the blackened fish tacos were the bomb. My waiter and service was phenomenal. I would definitely recommend."

  • "The perfect place to bring my cousins from Brooklyn. The food is always very tasty and moderately priced. Wait staff are friendly and unassuming. Mixed drinks are wonderful, although a little pricey when compared to the food menu (really is my only gripe!)"

  • "We love coming to Maya, whether it's for a holiday brunch like Mother's Day or just for a regular evening dinner. The outdoor patio is absolutely the best in the summer! The food is delicious, imaginative and always artfully prepared. I have tried many menu items (both drinks and food!) and have never had anything that wasn't delicious. There were 3 of us for Christmas Eve, and unfortunately, our waiter was also responsible for a very large party and this resulted in slower service than we are used to getting. However, the host attempted to assist, and our waiter himself was kind and apologetic for any delays we experienced. It does not lessen my impression of this restaurant - just wish they would have provided our waiter some help!"

  • "Great food and nice atmosphere. The menu is varied and the food is always cooked perfectly. Great neighborhood place in Oak Park, but even a destination for those in surrounding suburbs."
    Dined on 12/4/2013
  • "My husband and I are fans of Maya Del Sol. The food is usually pretty good as is the ambience. However, on this last outing, we finally noticed and agreed that Maya is a little pricey. Seven dollars for a small, ice-filled glass of Kahlua and crème? Four dollars for a tiny bowl of guacamole? The service was decent, but our waitress offered to bring us items she charged us for that we thought were being offered as a simple courtesy."
    Dined on 12/9/2013
  • "The hostess did not look at tge rservations, she kept saying it was 3 ppl....I stated I wanted a cozy booth...we got a booth by the servers work area...the tables are so close there is no room to move around The nacho appetizer was the best out of the entire meal...my skirt steak was charred with no season, the plaintains was not cooked completely (the were a lil hard), the pulled pork entree was dry with NO flavor, the asparagus was charred with no season....and the drinks was flat.... This was not a good first time experience, will not recommend or go back..."

  • "This is the second time I have eaten here and both times the food was excellent. Two persons in the party had Salmon and rated it excellent. i had scallops. At first I thought they were a little underdone but that did not turn out to be the case. They were excellent and very tender. The portions were just the right size."
