Diner Reviews
  • "There is Latin American food which stands up to the great complex cuisines of the world (curries, Moroccan, Turkish) . Unfortunately, these are not served very many places (Rick Bayless comes to mind as another chef who does it) and they are a bit more expensive. The menu is pretty impossible for most people won't be able to imagine what the dishes are because they will have no basis in their experience. If you have an open palate and are looking for good complicated dishes Maya will do it for you There are many places in the Vail Valley where you can get enchiladas burritos tacos for cheap. Some of them tex-mex some Mexican street food, and quite good. This is different."

  • "Great food, not sure my margarita had any tequila in it, but what was astounding was the extreme construction noise due to the demolition of their pool. A true ambience killer."

  • "I'm just not thrilled with this place and will probably not return. The tamales are doughy and not enough flavor. This is supposed to be a highlight, since it is a tamale festival. The guacamole is enjoyable. The mahi mahi is acceptable, but twice we were disappointed with the shrimp dish-on a piece of flatbread that is like cardboard to eat-can't cut it and it has no flavor and is soggy on top-hard below. Why not serve it on rice or masa or cabbage slaw-anything else. And the shrimp were a bit raw inside and the dish was luke warm. The carne asada was cooked properly, but really bland. The food comes out presented well but the flavors are off. The service is fair. He left water on table because he couldn't keep up with us-it's a big place."

  • "Great choice...Yes, a bit on the high-end but a great menu that goes beyond anything traditional Tex-Mex. Service was excellent. A bit noisy but in a good way for a place like this."

  • "I have been to Maya twice and both times I was very pleased. Great service and great food. The Tacos al Carbon (for 2 people) is fantastic. Portions here are very generous. My first time at Maya I shared the Tacos al Carbon with 2 other women and it was more than enough food. The second time at Maya we were a group of 8 and everyone raved about their meals! And we are a very discerning group! We like to eat good food. Our server was great and the manager is also great and very accommodating. I highly recommend Maya! I showed up on crutches with a sprained ankle. Within seconds of being seated, our server brought me a stool to elevate my foot and another server showed up with an ice pack! That was a nice and unexpected touch!"

  • "Guac is amazing! Mango margaritas are fabulous!!!! Get the fajita sampler."

  • "Food was excellent and well prepared. Service was excellent with staff noticing if your drink was empty and checking in several times about the quality of the food and to see if we needed anything else."

  • "We went to Maya expecting a true flavor explosion. The expensive table side Guacamole said to be enough for four wasn't! Had to order a second. Several in group ordered tacos, which were more like appetizer size and ok. Carne Asada was just decent. We had four adults and three kids and the bill was over $300. I don't mind spending $50 a head, but I expect a little wow for that!"

  • "We just returned from a wonderful 5 day vacation at the Westin in Beaver Creek. I made reservations for 7 adults to celebrate 2 birthdays. Our table was ready when we arrived, the service was great, all food was cooked as ordered. The tableside guacamole is excellent!! I ordered a cake two days prior and it was delivered to the table as soon as we were finished eating. White chocolate with fresh raspberries!! Highly recommend Maya!"

  • "This is the most unbelievable deal in the universe! Bottomless food and drinks for $35. The food is amazing, as are the drinks. The view is the icing on their cake. Really this is a not to be missed brunch. Our server offered to let him pick our food out and it was such an effortless, yummy meal. The plates are small but it makes it so if you share you can try a lot of different dishes. They came out at different times so we constantly had something to munch on without having a ton of plates in front of us."

  • "The service staff was immature and inept. Had to ask three times for the table to be cleared. And a cleaning person was working behind the bar dusting bottles and shelves - hello?, during dinner service. If you like leftovers, then this is the place for you. Everything except the guacamole is prepared in the morning and then reheated, even fried ice cream. Nothing is prepared "to order". The only thing I'll remember is not to return. P.S. This place is not in Beaver Creek as they would like you to believe. It is in Avon, Colorado. A local resident."

  • "Nice Mexican restaurant in lovely Westin setting. Excellent specialty cocktails, especially margaritas. Food was quite good but service was inconsistent."

  • "This place is definitely pricier than other options you have around, but if you're okay with that then you won't be disappointed. Get there before 5pm for happy hour and half priced margaritas. The food is terrific. I HIGHLY recommend the Tuna Tartare Guacamole! It is amazing."

  • "We're fans of Richard Sandoval's other restaurants in New York and Denver and Maya in Beaver Creek lives up to the quality of his other restaurants. Innovative Mexican and great drinks. Fun for groups"

  • "We have been here three times this winter and have tried something different each time; the one constant in our choices has been the table-side guac creations! Speaking of creations, I asked for a coffee they did not have on the menu. I explained the ingredients and they made it for me!"

  • "A very classy spot, right by the river and the ambiance is cozy. A unique twist on Latin/Mexican food--this is not your typical beans and rice place. Waitress was very nice and helpful. We needed vegetarian options and there were several. Crepes dessert was divine! Thanks Maya for a great way to celebrate our anniversary of 22 years!"

  • "Going into Maya I expected a fine dining experience. The hotel, the area and the ambiance led me to believe this dinner would be fine dining. But it simply wasn't. First off, beautiful restaurant. Great hotel and ambiance. Although not very "Mayan" at all. The menu touts authentic Mexican flavors and ingredients but at fine dining prices.Guacamole- Hard to mess up. They do it well and as spicy as you want it. However, it's served in what appeared to be an ash tray shaped bowl. Very hard to dip a chip without tipping the thing. Very awkward. The chips were scarce. Salsa was great. Dinner- $16 for 3 small tacos? Really? Mole was good but a little sweet. Again, small portions. Big prices. I hate to say it but overrated all around."

  • "I understand that the plates are going to be small but delicious. The appetizers me and my date got were small but delicious, not bad at all. But my entree the one with lobsters and shrimp was pathetic. nothing impressive about it at all, except that you call that a entree? My dessert was larger. If my date hadn't ordered the pork and shared with me I would have left starving. Its one thing to pay a good amount of money for a small but delicious dish, but this lobster was nothing that I couldn't have made at home for half the price, and probably would have tasted three times better. The empandas were fine, but Ive had better. And the mouse cake was super heavy and thick, to a point were it was nasty to eat, I had to get extra ice cream."

  • "Great food, fun atmosphere, delicious drinks, amazing service!!!!!!!!!!!! Table side guacamole is to DIE for! So wonderful that we got 2 and wanted to get a third but needed to save room for dinner. We were celebrating a birthday and the server brought a beautiful surprise birthday dessert plate with a candle. We were so full but couldn't resist and the fried ice cream was out of this world!!!"

  • "We went to Maya for Valentine's Day dinner the night we arrived in Beaver Creek. It took 20 minutes to place our drink order and another 20 minutes after that to receive our drinks and place an appetizer order. Service left a lot to be desired - extremely slow and little recognition of that fact on the part of the staff. All four adults had both courses of their meals before our 7 year old's kid's meal arrived. It was a busy evening, but the staff's inattention was notable and disappointing. A little attention could have gone a long way toward mitigating the effects of the slow meal service. I went again for brunch later in the weekend and found the staff's attitude to be much the same. On a positive note, the guacamole was delicious."

  • "Had high expectations but was left very disappointed. Prix fixe menu was type 4 font and it was dark so you couldn't really read the choices - table next to us took out their iphone flashlight to help. About 30 seconds after we ordered our apps they were on our table - guess those were just sitting under some heat lamp. My entree was ok but my wife's was a heap of pork all scattered on the plate - some massive hunks and some strips. Then my dessert was the densest bread pudding i.e. hockey puck I've ever had. For $120 w/ tip for that was a major letdown. To top it off our server came by in the middle of dessert and 'here's your check when you're ready' - yeah ok, thanks for rushing us out on Valentine's day. Would not recommend this place."

  • "Either creative or "traditional" Mexican food can be great . This was definitely traditional and it wasn't well done. I would rank Chipotle as having significantly better food. Sauces were gloppy, even guacamole was bland."

  • "Dining tables were packed on top of one another, dim lighting was nice but made reading the menus impossible. Menu was in such a small font no one could read it, our waitress had tell us what was on the menus and she had to read it to every other person she waited on, at least 5 other couples while we were there. We were very disappointed in this restaurant. Being Valentine's Day we were hoping for a nice dining experience and this was far from it. I expect more from a main Westin resort restaurant."

  • "We reserved this through opentable for valentines day. They apparently had fix menu for the evening but nobody mentioned it including opentable. We found out about it after we were sat down. We were not that hungry to eat four courses so we had to change tables and go to the bar area to get same food menu in ALa carte. Hosts can be friendlier as well. Overall good restaurant, nice ambience, decent food. Just service can improve a bit."

  • "We started with some margaritas which were good; but not exceptional. We ordered the bacon guacamole and our entrees. After about 20 minutes our waiter informed us that our entrees would be out shortly; but we hadn't received our guacamole yet. After about 5 minutes, someone was there to make it table side. It was absolutely delicious. I had the tacos and other members of our party had the carne asada, pork carnitas, and the short ribs mole dinner. Although the food was good; the service was much less so. It could have been that we were eating during the Super Bowl game and bar area was very busy."

  • "I love Mexican food so I was hoping for the best from Maya. I have never been in the Westin riverfront before. The service was great and the selection of small plates for brunch was surprisingly good. Everything we ordered was good and a few were great. We'll worth the price."

  • "Our meal started with a delicious corn soup. However the main courses were merely adequate. My wife had a "surf and turf" that was acceptable. I had the carnitas. The pork was dry and flavorless. The service was acceptable. Given the prices, I would have expected much better quality and service."

  • "loved the food...the restaurant is WAY TOO DARK. Between the dark furniture and one tiny electric candle and VERY FEW overhead lights, we were all straining to read the menu. And our ages are 23-54 so the younger folks were straining as well."

  • "Our table of 8 ordered numerous items and everyone enjoyed their meals very much. We had 3 guacamole appetizers, one "plain," one with tuna, and the other with crab. We practically licked the dishes. They prepared the guar at the table to your liking."

  • "This is by far the best meal that we've experienced in the valley. This is not to be missed food and drinks for any trip to Vail Valley. The table side guacamole is to die for! Be sure to order the Mercado Margarita, it is fantastic!!!! The lighting is low and not necessarily the best for reading but makes the atmosphere. It was quite crowded but the crowd is part of the buzz that makes Maya a "hot spot.""

  • "Maya is one of the best restaurants in the Vail Valley.... Hands down. Please, Please, Please add some lighting to the restaurant so one can read your menu. Everyone is using their cell phone app for a flashlight to read the menu. Simple suggestion to make the experience be a perfect one."

  • "If the service had been more attentive and all the dishes arrived warm, I would give Maya 4-5 stars across the board. Sadly, that was nit the case, however we really liked our meals. Highly recommend the breakfast pizza, brisket tacos, Guacamole and bloody marys."

  • "I have been to Maya a few times. The food has always been excellent. It has the best Sunday Brunch that I have ever been too. The dinner portion sizes are good and the prices are reasonable."

  • "Prices are high yet they use 'cheap' ingredients. Too many kids....if you want guacamole...plan to wait !! LARGE restaurant and only ONE guacamole cart."

  • "This place is nothing special-food is good; not great. The service was a little lackluster but towards the end of the meal, they figured out we were thirsty and finally were refilling our water glasses…The portions are small. The food is interesting-maybe to a fault. Some of the flavors get lost. The guacamole is very good and different-the tuna tartar guac was very interesting and delish, made table side for a nice touch. The cocktails are very tasty but not strong. The place is very loud and it's hard to have a conversation."
