May Kitchen + BarLove it!My friends and my husband and I come here very often.....sometimes as a group and sometimes just two of us. Sometimes i come in alone.This past Thursday, May 9th, it was I and three other girlfriends. One of the ladies was visiting from off island, so it was her first time. She was not dissappointed! The other three of us had just been in the week before, and probably will be back again next week! May"s Kitchen has wonderful food, reasonably price, a great ambiance and delightful service. I think one of the more pleasurable aspects of it is that when you walk in the door you have left Vashon for awhile and gone to an exotic place. The food is consistantly delicious, beautifully served, the atmosphere and decor is like a tiny trip to Thailand. How could we be so lucky to have this wonderful gem of a place here on Vashon! Our server was TOPS! He was friendly, knowledgable, a complete asset to the establishment. Even the young man who kept out water glasses filled was a total delight. The friends we were with eat at May's often. The fried watercress dish - OMG so good! The Phad Thai is like nothing else, anywhere - except for maybe in Thailand. Every dish that I have had was well above average and delicious - with exception to the fried spring rolls, which were grease soaked & I appealing. Previously one could have said that of the Hardware Store Restaurant, but now May's Kitchen takes that honor in our estimation. When we left for the evening there were about fifteen people waiting for tables but across the street at the Hardware Store Restaurant the place was half empty. Unique atmosphere, cozy, wonderful food and friendly service. Dinner for two was nearly half the cost of what we would have spent at the Hardware Store Restaurant. You can't go wrong at May's Kitchen. Just be sure to make your reservations early. Also, get good directions as there was no sign out front when we visited.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Thai in Seattle is on VashonThe food is outstanding, with generous portions, the service very good, and the interior decor is both attractive and evocative. In my view May's is right at the top of Thai restaurants in the region and is well worth the trip to Vashon Island. However, the restaurant is extremely noisy so it is hard to converse, and the chairs are uncomfortable. We had to reference the location by fixing it between the adresses of the adjoining shops. It was awesome, I can't wait to go back! Fried watercress appetizer was a meal in itself,
we ate at the bar and still got the ceremonial tableside tossing of the Pad Thai. The
bartender was professional and congenial. Opened with a bang and hasn't stopped doesn't matter if we come at 5:30 or at 8:15. Reservations recommended . We love the seats at the bar, high tops seats have strange cushions that feel like they slip. The restaurant ilooks closed from the outside - they purposely darken windows to protect the vibe and story of the experience inside but open the door and you are taken on a "trip" to an exotic and delicious place. Servers all seem happy and knowledgeable. Don't miss the fried Thai watercress & tamarind sauce, the signature pumpkin curry, try the red rice, papaya salad and spring rolls yummo! Service is friendly and attentive but not over-bearing. Nice place for a dinner conversation. Really, I could recommend it as a destination for our off-Island friends. May's is one of several high quality Thai food resturants I have experienced in the Seattle/Tacoma area. All the food, the drinks ,even the tea, are made with elaborate care from real ingredients, making it beyond any Thai food you've had before. The pad Thai is a perfect example, prepared with care at your table like a Caesar salad once was. The service is smiling and happy, the room beautifully paneled in old Thai teak.
