Diner Reviews
  • "Love the food and ambiance, but still wishing that Mitchell Maxwell would consider keeping the kitchen and bar open past 9:00pm to draw more 30-somethings. Once again, my table closed down the place by 9:30pm on a Thursday night. The decor is swank but could use some hip background music or loungy seating near the bar - so much potential, so little vision."

  • "We were greeted by Chef Maxwell and allowed to select the table of our choice. The service was attentive, friendly and helpful. The drink and wine selection was novel and expansive. We selected a bottle of wine that we enjoyed immensely and Chef Maxwell suggested entrees (cioppino and glazed salmon) that were fabulous and paired well with the wine. The dessert was lip-smacking and we had a dessert martini (caramel no less!) that we loved. Can not think of way that the evening could have been improved and are looking forward to our return."

  • "My husband and I went out to Maxwell for the first time and we will defiantly be returning soon! The staff was so kind and pleasant. Maxwell himself seated us down and asked how our dinner was going. I simply loved the expirience and our meal. Everything on the menu was fantastic!!!!!!"

  • "This was the 3rd time I've been to this restaurant. The first time I went was about 2 years ago. I had never heard of it before but since it is in Natick, one town over from where I live, and had an interesting menu, I decided to check it out with a groupon. My husband and I LOVED it. The waiter was friendly and attentive without being intrusive, the food was amazing and the ambience lovely. The restaurant itself is in sort of mini strip mall, very non-descript and not in an attractive area. Had I not had a groupon and searched for this place, I wouldn't have noticed it, and if I had, I wouldn't have thought much of it and doubt I ever would have gone in. This place is a hidden gem. It has the feel of an up scale Boston restaurant"

  • "We had a really nice dinner at Maxwells 148. Although located in a less-than-lovely setting (in a short strip adjoined to a take-out pizza place), once you enter, this is a truly lovely restaurant with nice ambiance and wonderful service. Although we were waiting for additional guests to arrive, we were quickly ushered to our table and offered a drink. The menu was extensive and the server was friendly and knowledgeable (as there were many specials she had to describe in detail)! We were so caught up in conversation that at the end of the evening we had not realized that the restaurant had emptied around us, and yet they made no move to rush us along. Highly recommended."

  • "Maxwells 148 isn't much to notice as you're driving by, but it's very much worth a visit (or three). We were met at the front by Mitchell, the chef/owner. We were looking for a restaurant with good food and not too much noise. Maxwells was a hit on both points. Leah took extremely good care of us, knew the menu in depth, and gave good advice. We'll be going back!"

  • "Very popular restaurant. We were underwhelmed and overcharged. My entre was $35 for a 4 - 6 oz. piece of cod in a sauce purported to be szechan (not even close). The food is mediocre across the board. Spen your $$$ elsewhere."

  • "A recent dinner for two was a little disappointing at Maxwell's 148. Natick had its own restaurant week a while back, and the offer from Maxwell's far surpassed the value of any other. After a few outstanding experiences, this special dinner seemed to have smaller portions and less seasoning than expected. Note that these were regular menu items, not special restaurant week creations which might have been designed with smaller portions or different recipes. Perhaps it was just an off night. The food was fine, just not up to par. The service and ambiance were great, as usual."

  • "The very unassuming exterior of Maxwell's belies a very elegant and romantic setting for a delightful and delicious meal. Would definitely return to try some of the small plates, etc."

  • "Spouse and I had enjoyable meal here on a Thursday evening. Waitstaff professional and genuinely cheerful. Portions generous, food nicely presented, and flavorful. I had gnocchi with lobster - lots of lobster. Spouse had beef with broccoli. We shared a dessert of cheesecake. Coffee was really good, and fairly priced. All, in all, a lovely evening. As we were leaving, a group of about twelve were arriving. Also, there seem to have been locals at the bar - always a good sign. Resto is easy to find: on Rte 135/Central St., western edge of Natick. Ample parking behind restaurant."

  • "My wife and I went to this little gem of a restaurant. It was moderately busy for a Tuesday night in Metrowest. Maxwells is hidden amongst a few other non descriptive buildings along RT135 in Natick. It took a while for us to decide what to get because there are so many creative dishes to choose from on the menu. Then there was the specials. The food was very good. Well balanced amount and very flavorful. You will eventually meet the chef. He makes a point to meet his customers. We really enjoyed talking to him. He seemed very excited about his creations and presentations. I can definitely recommend this restaurant for any occasion. Pricing will be in the $45 - 55 PP (app, drink, meal, desert) A great value."

  • "We have been coming here for years and always have an outstanding meal and top notch service. Creative menu and great selection of drinks or wine. Love the black fig vodka drinks!! Wish it were a bit closer for us and we would come more often!"

  • "From the outside this restaurant does not look like much, but that impression changes the minute you walk into the elegant dining room. Great cocktail menu & wine list. The Italian-Asian fusion works, we had very good meals. Service was excellent. Dinner for two with drinks, and a shared appetizer was $110 - a little pricey but there are menu options that would allow spending less. We will return!"

  • "This was our first time here. We were not quite sure what we would find looking at the menu . It was an eclectic mix of Asian and Italian quisine. The food was excellent and the service was great our waitress attended to our every need. It was a wonderful surprise of great food and service. We will be going back again."

  • "Noisy. Waiter intrusive. Not worth price. Bitter Asparagus. Greasy Steak. Flavor-less lamb shanks. Bland mashed potatoes"

  • "We have eaten here a number of times and keep returning. We enjoy Maxwells' fusion approach to his food. Service is always excellent. It is a white table dining experience with a number of different seating configurations."

  • "Always a memorable meal at Maxwells. The swordfish special was outstanding. Appetizer of eggplant lettuce wraps were pphenomenal. Our serves Jess was excellant and well versed on menu as well as the wine list. She kept the pace of our dining experience so there wer no long gaps between courses but not feeling rushed. The chef Mitchell is very hands on checking on each table to make sure the meals are to each diners liking."

  • "Stick to your ribs food, flavorful, and classy. Your only difficulty will be how to choose what to eat. Such an amazing selection of dishes to choose from, and a wonderful setting to sit back, eat/drink well, and exhale."

  • "This is an interesting blend and proof that a skilled chef can pull off more that the typical... Maxwells is a special food find in Natick and a great option to the every day..."

  • "This hidden away restaurant is a kind and warm refuge from route 9 and works well if you don't feel like hopping on the pike and heading to the south end....great for talking..and HEARING your friends..the atmosphere lacks energetic vibes...and no hip stuff to be seen. Concept is great, a bit strange..the fusion of Asian and Italian ..maybe too much of a reach... BUT the chef is delightful, concerned and talks to his guests...so refreshing..that goes a long way.. The food is a bit in the heavy and fried side, so don't look for "best you have ever eaten"..but on a rainy Friday..when you don't mind an older quiet crowd, and you want to feel loved.. this place deserves the business"

  • "Dinner was fine. Only complaint was that it was far noisier than desired for two people to have a conversation. It also was hard to hear the waitress, who didn't seem to be able to project very loudly."

  • "I hadn't been to Maxwell's in quite a long time and had never been there for dinner. They had a BOGO offer, so I took them up on it. I can't say enough good things about the dinner. The food was fabulous and the service impeccable! The owner came to our table to inquire about our meal. I absolutely loved our waitperson -- every time she was thanked, the response was "my pleasure" instead of "no problem". She was very friendly and professional, accommodating and helpful -- what a breath of fresh air! I also appreciated the fact that there were no children running around or screaming. Thank you!!"

  • "This past Sat we tried it again and we had a super uncomfortable table for 2 up against a wall in the hall to the wait station, there were screaming infants which I found unbelievable and our waitress didn't take our drink order for 20 mins!! It arrived and was wrong so I had to get up and get it back to the bar tender after 10 more minutes. 30 mins later we were told the specials and asked how the drinks were! We had to ask for bread and we didn't place our order until 45 mins after being seated due to poor service. The lobster gnocchi I ordered was not tasty and I even ordered 2 extra ounces of lobster and all I got was a double order of gnocchi! The bread was stale and the food was overpriced. We won't be back."

  • "I was very disappointed in the cheese platter for 24.00 there was little to enjoy and the accompanying crostini was too crunchy to enjoy the cheese. Very small and overpriced. "

  • "Glad to find a $$ restaurant in Natick that got a 4.5 rating and wasn't part of a chain. But...we knew Maxwells had specials from a review Melon read online but the "specials" our waitress recited were $$$ ?? so we ordered pasta dishes off the menu. Meanwhile, people behind us order & we hear "our" waitress telling them about 3 $16.99 specials. Huh? So, we asked our waitress & were told these are "email club" specials. Turns out you can't access them till after first visit - unless you've heard of them. Suggest Maxwells reconsider this "email special" so that 1st timers don't end up in the "feeling left out of a better deal" situation like we felt. 2nd issue: we feel Maxwells is really more of a $$$ restaurant. We liked it otherwise:)"

  • "Excellent service; couldn't ask for better. Good food selection even with truncated menu with mix of Italian and Asian food. I would definitely return. The seating was somewhat compressed and the noise level was higher than I would've liked. The drinks are overpriced. The dishes my wife and I had were very good. Mine was the Porquette and the other was the rice paper wrapped fish. the side dishes were also overpriced. What happened to including side dishes with expensive main dishes? I recall the side dishes being $10. This is not the only place that does this. I just don't understand this. If you forget to side dishes in the overpriced drinks you can have a very very good meal, one which I urge you to try it."
