Diner Reviews
  • "This is the second time we've eaten at Max's. Awesome again, which is saying a lot as expectations were high. As we did previously, we started with PB&J Wings in a Thai peanut sauce and blackberry coulis. Sounds funny, but this combo works, providing a full range of flavor and texture. I had the Famous Southern Fried Chicken, served with mashed potatoes, collard greens and Texas toast. Easily the BEST Fried Chicken ever! Tasty and "oh my goodness moist." Debi had the "Squashsta", which is zucchini "noodles" with a pomodoro sauce. She loved it! With dinner we drank one of my favorite Italian (yes) wines; Gaja Ca'Marcanda Promis, which was very, very reasonably priced. Max's is awesome and will now become a regular stop for us."

  • "I went twice and both times experienced awful service. The second time I went I literally had to stare down a waitress at the bar while 5 of them were just standing there chatting and no one had been to our table since we had been seated 20 min before. The food takes forever to prepare. They do have gluten free fried chicken though which is really good."

  • "Brunch was exquisite. The service was attentive knowledgeable and personable. The chef is very talented. He came to the table and was a delight to talk to. What a genuine nice person in addition to be talented. We tasted everyone's dishes and enjoyed them all."

  • "We have been to Max's in Houston on numerous occasions and had the most amazing fried chicken and Mac n cheese. But the Ft. Worth location was not nearly as good. Chicken was very bland and not well seasoned. Also the temperature on the chicken and Mac n cheese was not hot enough. My husband and I have introduced friends and family to the Houston location and love it. However we were quite disappointed with the Ft Worth location. On another note, service was great and ambience was great too"

  • "We went for brunch. We had The Roasted Relleno, the Dreamsicle French Toastt and the jalapeno cheddar grits (with two eggs any style). Everything was amazing. The music was great and we were seated by the bar so we had lots of traffic but lots of attention. Everyone was very nice. I can't wait to go back and try more on the menu"

  • "Perfect for our girls night. Great music, waiter and the most awesome food. The chicken is to die for. Will be back."

  • "I found this place by scrolling through restaurants on Open Table. They share valet parking with Barcadia and Chuy's - we were told it's not listed because it's not always available. The service was OUTSTANDING. I would give it 10 stars. From the waitress, to the CHEF, to the manager, we were blown away! The hummus bread was SO good. Porkchops, Fish and dessert! It was all cooked great, and creative to please any foodie with a pallet for different. It's a little loud, just know that and you won't be disappointed at all. We will definitely be back for brunch and to try their famous fried chicken. I love that you can purchase the wine to take with you! Also, if you commit to two glasses, they will open any bottle for you."

  • "This is a great addition to the ever growing food scene erupting in Fort Worth! Ambiance and decor ideal for an upbeat wine scene!"

  • "While we really enjoyed the ambience of the restaurant, the food was just okay, nothing all that special. We felt it was bit overpriced for what we got."

  • "Loved my first visit but the radio was SO loud-I'm ok with a "bustling bistro" but this was just radio blare! They turned it down a bit but just not necessary Great joint--will definitely go back!!"

  • "Max's Wine Dive is the best! The service is always amazing with a super knowledgable and witty staff. The food is always unique and beyond delicious. This place is truly the best!"

  • "Max's Wine Dive is a great spot that I highly recommend to anyone, but if you happen to be celiac or gluten sensitive this restaurant should be your new best friend. It's not easy to find gluten free fried chicken and Chef Stephon does it to perfection. They also have several other gluten free items including key lime pie, which was great. General Manager Cody is very good about recognizing gluten free patrons and confirming all of their needs are met. We will definitely continue to frequent Max's."

  • "House-made hummus, tenderloin egg rolls, fried egg sandwich, chicken dinner, and redfish were ordered amongst our group. Everything was delicious! Will definitely return."

  • "We have wanted to try Max's for a while. We went for brunch. I had the Relleno and my fiancée the Blueberry pancakes. We split an order of breakfast potatoes. There wasn't 1 bite left on any of the plates. The server provided recommendations and was on point. There was great teamwork going on, and every one was friendly. All the surrounding tables seemed happy, as well. We will definitely be back."

  • "Fried egg sandwich. The best sandwich I have ever eaten that was not a hamburger. The second best sandwich was when I ate the other half of it for breakfast the next day, cold and straight from the to-go container. The chicken was great as well. Servers friendly and service was great. We would definitely recommend it to anyone."

  • "Hope was a wonderful server, both personable and with a good knowledge of the wine selections. Love that they will open any bottle if you buy 2 glasses! Her recommendations were great! Enjoyed the energy of the place and the fried chicken was marvelous! Shrimp bisque was a special and needed to be hotter temperature wise but they accommodated that request immediately. The artwork and music add to the energy of the place. Truly enjoyed it!"

  • "We went to Max's on Valentine's Day. The place we busy, but we were seated promptly. The food (my wife had oysters, I had a special pork chop) was good, but not spectacular. Our waitress was very pleasant and her service was good. However, the noise level was so high, due to the volume of the music, that we could barely carry on a conversation when 18 inches apart. Went there was a break in the music, we could talk normally. We are somewhat older and prefer a quiet dinner, not trying to eat in a rock concert. I will not likely revisit them as this seems to be what others have noted."

  • "This was the first time we've been to Max's Wine Dive. It was a pleasant surprise. The service was excellent. The food was also excellent. My husband had the chicken and I had the shrimp and grits. Both were outstanding. My husband said the chicken came in a close second to his mother's. From the previous reviews we thought we would be taking food home. The portions were not as large as we expected but certainly more than ample. We did not have appetizers, only entrees. The wine was exceptional. We will go back."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed a nice evening meal and the food was great. I had the Fried Egg Sandwich and my wife had the Fried Chicken. The wine choices were broad enough for anyone to find a favorite. We had reservations which were honored exactly on time. On the negative side the table seating is very close so romantic conversation and quiet discussions are impossible. The most disappointing experience however was the hostess who rudely advised us upon seating that the visit would be limited to one and one half hours. When we left slightly over an hour later there was at least eight tables open and no line waiting. I would have liked to stay a little longer and have a relaxing bottle of wine but we chose to move on to a more embracing venue."

  • "First time there after moving to the Fort Worth area from Chicago. I have been looking for good restaurants since I moved. This place is a gem. Interesting and tasty food, and an uber Wine Selection. Made a reservation for Valentines day, and the table was waiting, The waitress was superb, and the atmosphere was very nice. No Smoking is definitely a Plus! I will go back!"

  • "We went for a casual Valentines a Day dinner. It was fantastic. Had a few of the appetizers and wine instead if the set menu, which looked great BTW, just too much for us at the time. Tried the Malbec on the waiters advice, it was very good. Instead of desert we had the late harvest Malbec. It was so good we got a bottle to take home. Simply a great experience overall."

  • "We had a 4 course valentines dinner reservation right next to the front door, so cool air came in constantly. Soup was ok, salad was poor, main course pork chop was a letdown, the only item that was enjoyable was the chocolate mousse dessert. Won't be coming back even for the wine that was less than expected for $39 bottle. Try down the street for wine at times ten cellar, excellent cheese tray."

  • "My husband and I went to Max's Wine Dive in Fort Worth, TX with another couple for Valentine's. The wine selection was vast, the service was impeccable, and the special Valentine's menu was excellent. We loved the casual atmosphere with great classic rock playing in the background at just the right volume. Can't wait to go back and try the brunch!"

  • "in Ft. Worth for a tradeshow and sought this out. I have been to the Austin one and really enjoyed it. Sit at the bar if you can - the staff are really fun and attentive. Especially Carla - she is fantastic and you can implicitly trust her choice in the vino. Food is good but is HUGE portions. Easy to share a sandwich or a entree."

  • "The name to me implies a wine bar with some pub grub. But this chef driven restaurant delivered a great big surprise! We started with chicken wings in a peanut butter and jelly sauce. Outstanding; moist and tender, and the sauce gave them an Asian twist with a slightly sweet finish. Next up were the Bison sliders with caramelized onions. Tasty nuggets of joy. For dinner, we had the signature fried chicken with greens and mashed potatoes. Another guest at our table had a flat iron steak with potatoes. The entrees were outstanding. Flavorful and moist. We also had two great bottles of wine which were less than a 2X mark up. Lastly, the service was friendly and attentive. In all, a great experience and an outstanding value."

  • "You really couldn't ask for more. Great wine list, absolutely wonderful food. Service is top notch. Fort Worth, Dallas and Houston locations are all different they all have there own Chefs menu. I would give 6 stars if I could."

  • "There was an awesome wine selection. The chef came out to our table and told us how to prepare the crispy spinach. It melted in your mouth. We tried new wines and found a new favorite. The chicken was amazing. We brought friends from California that had special dietary needs and the chef accommodated. We had a great experience. Wouldn't hesitate to return."

  • "One of our plates was completely cold, was sent back to be heated. Also, had to keep reminding our waiter of the dairy & gluten free needs our table had, since one appetizer was delivered with dairy ingredients. Those are two big complaints in my mind, BUT we really like the Dive. It's a friendly and relaxed place, with a unique comfort food menu."

  • "Our experience at Max's was most pleasant. The food , we had the fried Chicken & Max & Cheese, could not have been better. The wine selection is extensive & yummy. Our server directed us to a lower cost variety that was exquisite. WE had an issue with the poaced pears as they where not quite done & had not bee decored. the bits that where done were succulent & quite tasty. Without a moments hesitation when we mentioned the pears to our waiter he directed the manager to our table & he graciously took it off our bill. My wife & I are looking forward to a return trip soon. We don't get out much so we really appreciate being treated so nicely. I would recomend Max's to any & all . I am a retired chef & IMHO these guys get it."

  • "Max's on 7th Street needs to get training from Max's in San Antonio. The menu options are below average in it looks like the chef is trying to be to hip instead of making good food. If you are in San Antonio go to Max's, if you are in Fort Worth go anywhere else."

  • "Home cooking style menu, but with a touch of gourmet. Just right. Go small and tasty with the seared scallops, or fill up with a pot roast or chicken plate."

  • "Max's is a nice little place, nestled in the Parkside area. Great service, very friendly, and a wonderful selection if wines. The menu is uneven - some great items, others not so great, but I have found the preparation to be inconsistent. For example the Max and cheese is sometimes very well prepared, other times runny and overcooked. The wine pours are unbelievably inconsistent. I think they need to reboot. Funny how one of the waitresses dissed other great FT establishments for inconsistent service, like Tim Love's restaurants!"

  • "Great addition to the 7th street corridor. The wine list is, of course, a strong suit but the for was quite good. It is a little close and noisy so I wouldn't call it romantic but it is a fun place to come with friends . We did and had a great time. I'll go back and I don't even drink."

  • "The atmosphere was cool, we went for Sunday brunch around 11:30a.m. It was pretty much full - it's not a large place, we made reservations and that helped. I ordered the eggs any way with bacon and a side of the blueberry pancakes. The eggs were way underdone, white almost still translucent and the food took over 30 minutes to come out. So I didn't want to sent them back thinking I'd wait another 30 mins. We were enjoying our mimosas though. I'd try it again, but not sure I "loved" it."
