Though a lot of the reviews focus on brunch, I met a friend at Max's for dinner. We had a reservation and my friend arrived a few minutes behind me. I liked the fact they immediately sat me at our table allowing me to order an initial glass of wine while I waited. Service was good. Attentive. The reason for the four stars is we felt rushed. Our appetizers came out almost immediately. This was a good thing. However neither of us was halfway finished with our appetizers when the entrees were delivered. So our fried chicken ... best served hot ... was sitting there while we wolfed down our appetizers. We asked our waitress to put a hold on dessert so we could talk and enjoy our dinner. The food was good. We had the fried chicken.

This place is basically the bar scene scenario, but we went for early dinner and the atmosphere was quiet, wait staff friendly and the food was pretty good, putting a different spin on the usual. Make sure you check the wall for the $5 wine/glass special before ordering the wine pairings with your food, it will save you a little cash.

Had always wanted to try Max's and got the opportunity for restaurant week! The menu was fantastic! Will come back just for the food!! Several employees stopped by to see how our visit was. Only complaint was that the paired wine was delivered after our food course was almost done. Most wines are over $10 per glass and are only about 1/3 filled. Oh, and don't ask for a "to go" container. I was told "they don't do that" for restaurant week.

We went this weekend for an anniversary dinner. Really good food. Like, exceptional. Might be the best fried chicken we've ever had. The beef short rib was also really good, and we finished the meal with their incredible bread pudding! On top of good food, the service was outstanding. We started at the bar, where they were attentive and friendly. Once at the table we felt service was paced really well. Not too slow, but didn't feel rushed at all. I'm really Impressed, and will be back again!!

The food was as great as people said it would be. So best part of the restaurant was the food as it should be. However, I will say the ambiance was nice as well. The service was a little slow. Probably would do well to add staff on busy nights. However, the server was wonder and very helpful. Be careful for the small print on their specials. 25% off Champagne bottles all day Friday should have said 25% off One Champagne bottle with entrée (literally only served with the entrée). No additional bottles allowed. So all day turns into only during and after your entrée until the bottle is empty. We were pleasantly surprised with live music that was great (not too loud) but upbeat.

The food and the service were good. I can't get over the repeated attempts to sell bottles of wine to go. There was the "special" list offering a nearly 2 for 1 on high end bottles, the 3 for $39 "special" and the "buy a bottle and what you don't finish you can take with you" approach. All offered more than once, by the waiter, the "wine guy" and another person who I'm not sure what his role was. This diminished an overall enjoyable meal and left me with that feeling you get after a time share pitch experience. Max needs to learn that when one hears no it means no. I'll take my chances on another spot in town without the high pressure sales tactics.

First trip to Max's and we loved it. Bruce was our waiter and he could not have been nicer or more attentive. Food was delicious as were the wines that were paired with our courses. A pleasant surprise was the ability to take home wine at reasonable prices. The noise level is a little loud and if you have trouble hearing your spouse or date, just suck it up, listen closer, smile and drink more wine! The great out weighs the bad. We will return.

I had the pleasure of dining at Max's Wine Dive Dallas on 8/9/14 during brunch and I must say the experience was wonderful from the time I walked in the door until the time I walked out. I was waiting on friend to arrive and even though they were busy Sarah (I believe) made sure I was doing fine and didn't need anything until my guest arrived. The food was DELICIOUS and there wasn't a long wait to be served and yes and the Grapefruit Mimosa's were refreshing!! I will be planning my birthday brunch there next month bring more guests to dine at Max's Wine Dive!!!

The service was excellent, and the live entertainment was an added bonus. Really wanted to score higher on the food, but the appetizers I had as a meal (Fried oysters, Mac and cheese, Caesar salad) were only so-so. The chicken dish my friend ordered from the entree menu was excellent, though.

One of the best restaurants I've eaten at in a long time! The food was creative and delicious! Try the duck meatballs--to die for! Shrimp and grits and chicken fried steak were also amazing. Service was excellent as far as engaging and knowledgeable, however, not as attentive as we would have liked. We waited with empty wine glasses several times and found ourselves looking for our server.

We had chicken fried steak, fried chicken, and an excellent (and reasonably priced) bottle of wine - all was delicious. The collard green side with the fried chicken was an interesting add. Service was extremely friendly and did a nice job. We were there early on a Friday evening - it was not very crowded when we got there at 6:15, but was filling up by the time we left around 7:30. A really good singer/guitarist went on a little before 7:00 as well. All in all a great experience that exceeded expectations. They were also offering very inexpensive carry out wine that we didn't have time to try.

They've definitely taken "comfort food" to another level- the food was great (honey, those collard greens were on POINT! We had heard so much about the place we decided to go. It was late so I'm not sure if the cooks were tired or what the good was poorly seasoned the Mac and cheese was watered down as well as the gravy no taste. We we were disappointed especially with what we paid for dinner seemed like it would have been better. We love good and great resturants so it's not like we are trying to be rude but honest. Our waiter was just not there and seemed stand offish. Just not a good first time experience sorry I am sure it's a great place but I'm sure we want be back.

While dining with an out of town guest I was very excited to show them what Max's was all about. Meanwhile, it wasn't very busy with a number of open seating options. It was very difficult to enjoy our time and carry a conversation when the event planner was seated directly beside us with three prospective clients. Looking around the place there were a number of spots that could've been selected that wouldn't have interrupted anyone's dining experience. I thought that was poor planning and rather rude of the event planner.

The fried chicken was great, but be prepared to pay $4 for a drumstick. No merlot by the glass, but others were available. Ordered chef Patrick's short rib which was delicious, but not worth $25, maybe $20. Marcie made the experience good and guitarist was a welcomed relief to the loud dark music that they had on before. Won't be back, just not a good value. Too many other great eateries in Uptown to measure up to.
