Max's Wine Dive - AustinWould definitely go again!We were searching for a meal late and found Max's. We were so pleasantly surprised! We shared the shrimp and grits. It was the best I've ever had. It wasn't over the top heavy and had a lovely broth that was yummy. The service was friendly and comfortable, but no intrusive. The egg sandwich is my favorite by far - easily big enough to share - but this time I tried the mushroom and sweet potato hash. It had a spicy zing to it (but not overpowering) and the poached egg on top was perfection - enough runny yoke to season the hash (hard to find in a restaurant - they tend to come overcooked).
The servers are attentive but never pushy - despite the crowd, I felt as though we could have stayed at our table all day without being rushed out the door to flip it. Would be nice to see a few more less expensive wines ($25-30 range) as there are many out there. Staff is always friendly and informative.

The service was great. They came by and refilled our glasses pretty frequently so we never had to track down a waiter. They do get really busy on weekends so I would suggest making a reservation ahead of time. If we drank wine then this would be the place to go. They have a extensive wine list and are very knowledgeable about their wines. Max's is known for their fried chicken on waffles and these were not a buffet item and we were disappointed by that. Guess I should have called to clarify or ask when they confirmed.

Heard this place had very good food with new/old feel. We had a great time with good service and really good food. In particular, the lemon poppy seed pancakes and almond crusted french toast were our favorites. Even though menu is limited, food was excellent. Modern feel from outside resturant with historic decor inside. Give it a try. The ambiance is great; it's laid back and fun. I had set a really high bar for the food, so although it was excellent, I didn't think it was quite outstanding. I had their truffle egg sandwich, which was enormous and very tasty. I just wish I had split it with someone because it was too much for just one person.
My only complaint was that there were very limited drink options. Their menu offered both white and red sangria, but when we ordered the white sangria it was unavailable.
