This was my first visit to Max's. We found the place to be very noisy, there were a number of larger parties going on which probably accounts for most of the noise. The service was great, the food was tasty and the wine paring suggestion was spot on.

The food and service were great, but it was VERY loud. The noise was almost overwhelming when we first stepped in. We went at 7:30 on a Saturday night and both the tables and the bar were very busy. We all really enjoyed our food, but the noise level was a bit much for us. The waiter was very nice and let me taste different wines before making a final selection. The resulting choice went perfectly with my dinner.

  • Long Wait For Food

We had reservations at 7:00 on a Saturday night. The place was not very busy yet. We ordered bottles of wine and then immediately ordered dinner when they brought the wine. It took over an hour to get the food. It took 45 minutes for them to bring us a VERY small plate of bread. We had been before and wanted to introduce Max's to our friends because they too are gluten free. They will never come back because of the long wait for food. You guys blew it.

We brought some friends here for their first visit to Max's. Having looked online at the menu, they were convinced they weren't going to like anything on the menu. I assured them everything was going to be just fine, made a couple of recommendations and let Max's do the rest! Needless to say they loved all the food, our waitress was outstanding and knowledgable about the ENTIRE menu, food and drink. (I expect nothing less at Max's). We have been many times and it's always an enjoyable experience. See you soon!

My all time brunch favorite is the Frito Chili Pie Omelet. I grew up in west Texas and Frito Chili Pie was a treat for young man growing up in Borger. Now that you made it into breakfast, I have written the Pope and asked that you be blessed. If I am having a funky day, one of these omelets makes everything all better. See you Sunday. Scott

After the many times I've been at Max's I had my first Fried Egg Sandwich. It was awesome. Thank you for the knife because it's even better cut into pieces. The eggs and tomatoes were well prepared and Chef Erica's bacon is excellent. The bread was awesome. On Sunday I will have: Frito Chili Pie. Not as good as Mom's (no one ever is) but it's my staple. Alisa and I loved Eat, Drink and Empower. The food and beverage combinations represented Austin. We now understand & appreciate mixology. Please keep this as an annual event.

We had the specialty fried chicken and the seasonal Wagdi Beef. Neither dish was very good, and to say Fair is kind. The wine pricy, but very good and service were spot on. The only other standout was the "Drunken Bread" appetizer, which was pretty tasty. But overall, I doubt we will not be making another trip any time soon.

A fun place with great food and excellent selection of wines. Our server was awesome, and helped us select wines. We bought a bottle to take home, too. Odd combination - fried chicken and wine, but it works! Noise level was high (actually, it was the music turned up too loud), but we are older - the younger set loved it.

This was my first trip to Austin and Saturday I was looking for a last-minute eatery and happened upon Max's Wine Dive on Open Table. I have been wanting to try the location in Houston so felt this was a great opportunity to give the chain a try. Good choice! I had the prosciutto and melon salad with added Scallops and a grapefruit mimosa...DELICIOUS!! Great Atmosphere, great service (I sat at the bar)...I will definitely visit the Houston location!

Max's was a great choice for my group. Our server was extremely helpful with our wine selections. The food was nothing less than decadent. (I've got to try to replicate the bone marrow popcorn at home!). It's easy to see why fried chicken is one of their signature items. I can't say that I've ever had one that was more flavorful. I look forward to further exploring their menu.

Max's used to be a place we would take visitors for a casual, unique evening out. We used to rave about the food and inventive dishes. We could always count on cleaver new things on the menu but fabulous stand-bys. My husband had the hamburger (once rated as one of the best in Texas.) The meat mixture has changed it to be just an ok burger. The chicken sliders used to be a reasonably great taste of the chicken they are best known for. Now it is very thin strips of mostly breading. We apologized to our friends for the raves we made about it. We are sad to say we won't be going back. For whatever reason the changes they made to the menu makes it just an average place to go.

Had a reservation for 7:30 on a Friday night. The place was packed and it was loud. Since we were just having a casual girls night, that didn't bother us much, but probably not the best for a quiet, romantic evening. Our waitress was great. Friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and wines. It took awhile for dinner to arrive so the manager came around and asked if there was something she could do. I suggested a dessert might be great. After the meal, we were full. Since we were staying nearby, she offered to comp the dessert the following night. We came by the next day and she followed through as promised. I will definitely be returning! Great customer service.

We arrived at 8:00 on a weekday night, and the noise was so awful I wanted to leave immediately. I had invited out-of-town guests, however, and couldn't make arrangements to go elsewhere. I checked outside, but the temperature was in the high 90's and the noise level from San Jacinto was also loud. We then contributed to the noise level by being forced to shout to each other to be heard for at least an hour, and then the place somewhat quieted down. The food was delicious and the service good, but the noise level was unacceptable. I would have to think long and hard before trying this place again.

Met some friends for drinks and dinner here. The bartender helped me pick out a wine, which after tasting four, found just the perfect one. The only criticism I have is that we ended up choosing wines that were not on the "by the glass" list and they ended up costing around $75 for three glasses of wine and one beer! That being said, we were seated promptly for dinner, received great service, and the food was FANTASTIC. Would definitely return...just with a closer eye on the wine I choose. :-)

My husband and I had looked forward to dining here, and it was very good. The food was great; not the very BEST of foodie scene, but high marks---could be improved with more attention to seasoning. The wine list was pretty good; I'd have expected more breadth from a wine bar. The one distinct drawback was the incredibly loud stereo system, especially since we were squished in a corner booth right under the speakers. If you're going with a group, definitely make reservations, and if you're disabled, give extra time to thread your way through the tight spaces.

I had not been to Max's for brunch in a few years so when a friend was in town and staying at the hotel across the street, we thought this would be a good place to meet up on Sunday. The food was fine, just not as good or fresh as I remember it being in the past. Everything tasted good, just not as crisp, pretty or flavorful as in the past. the egg sandwich was kind of thin and only had two small pieces of bacon. the eggs were cooked perfectly I will say - it just looked awfully skinny compared to how it used to. my husband had the crawfish benedict. he did say the green chili sauce was very good. everything else on there was meh. our friend had the chicken and waffles. he said the waffle was really good but the chicken was just ok.

Max's Wine Dive always hits the spot with an Austin twist on the tastiest comfort foods! The staff is courteous, attentive, and helpful. Our waiter even treated us to a complimentary serving of french toast at brunch. The quality of food and presentation is outstanding and although their recipes are already quite impeccable, they do cater to please. I got no sass at all when I requested the addition of shrimps added to The SXSX (grits with pulled pork). This expecting momma says it was the perfect brunch - couldn't have asked for a better experience!
