Went here with friends because I've been to Max's several times in Houston and Dallas and really wanted the fried lobster tail which is my favorite but unfortunately they don't offer it there #bummer so I had to pick something else. It was fine but you know when your heart is set on something and you don't get it then it's not the same.

Great food in a relaxed atmosphere. We had a large group on a Tuesday nite. Enough variation on the menu even for a few vegetarians. Wine and beer only but that was just fine with our crowd. We tried various dishes from the tasty popcorn appetizers to some small plates including yummy mac and cheese, sandwiches, fish, burgers, fried chicken and shrimp and grits. I would definitely go back in a small or large group.

My husband doesn't like to eat out much, but since our initial visit to Max's he always want to come back when we visit Austin. This visit was with friends and Max's was his first choice for dinning. They truly enjoyed the food and the location. Our server was very friendly and accommodating even when the men were joking about her being partial to the women in the group. It was a great experience with great food!

I brought out of town family in for the chicken and waffles and Max's did NOT disappoint. We ordered the Chicken and Waffles, Fried Chicken Benedict and our server recommended the Apple Pie French Toast. It was the perfect amount of food for the four of us and everything was soooooooooooo good. The crispy skin on the fried chicken was perfect and the french toast was the best I've ever had. Our waitress was very attentive, friendly and sincere about us having a positive food experience. My ONLY critique is the hollandaise needed more lemon.

Saw Max's Wine Dive on the Cooking Channel and wanted to try it. They have a nice variety of foods offered for all tastes. Two of my fellow diners love mussels so we ordered them. I was skeptical but loved them! The sauce was so good we wouldn't let the waiter take it away until we soaked it all up on the extra bread he brought us. We also ordered the scallops which were great, the okra pancakes which were OK, and the sweet potato which was great! The wine selection is very large and the Malbec I had was wonderful!

I've been to Max's Wine Dive in Houston (both locations) and have always found it to be a great experience. I was somewhat disappointed by the experience at the Austin location. The food was still great but the service was slow and spotty. We were a party of 6 and everyone's food came out at the same time, except mine (fried chicken and waffles). I waited 10 minutes or so until the food came and, in the meantime, the various servers I questioned said: "it's coming right up". Come on...!

As mentioned on the menu the fried chicken and waffles would take some time. I was thinking maybe 20 minutes, but it was more like 40. With such a wait, I expect out of this world flavor. The chicken wasn't 40 minute wait good, but it was good. She had french toast that could have been been more evenly griddled but it was flavorful.

This was my first visit to Max's. We found the place to be very noisy, there were a number of larger parties going on which probably accounts for most of the noise. The service was great, the food was tasty and the wine paring suggestion was spot on.

The food and service were great, but it was VERY loud. The noise was almost overwhelming when we first stepped in. We went at 7:30 on a Saturday night and both the tables and the bar were very busy. We all really enjoyed our food, but the noise level was a bit much for us. The waiter was very nice and let me taste different wines before making a final selection. The resulting choice went perfectly with my dinner.

We had reservations at 7:00 on a Saturday night. The place was not very busy yet. We ordered bottles of wine and then immediately ordered dinner when they brought the wine. It took over an hour to get the food. It took 45 minutes for them to bring us a VERY small plate of bread. We had been before and wanted to introduce Max's to our friends because they too are gluten free. They will never come back because of the long wait for food. You guys blew it.

We brought some friends here for their first visit to Max's. Having looked online at the menu, they were convinced they weren't going to like anything on the menu. I assured them everything was going to be just fine, made a couple of recommendations and let Max's do the rest! Needless to say they loved all the food, our waitress was outstanding and knowledgable about the ENTIRE menu, food and drink. (I expect nothing less at Max's). We have been many times and it's always an enjoyable experience. See you soon!

My all time brunch favorite is the Frito Chili Pie Omelet. I grew up in west Texas and Frito Chili Pie was a treat for young man growing up in Borger. Now that you made it into breakfast, I have written the Pope and asked that you be blessed. If I am having a funky day, one of these omelets makes everything all better. See you Sunday. Scott

After the many times I've been at Max's I had my first Fried Egg Sandwich. It was awesome. Thank you for the knife because it's even better cut into pieces. The eggs and tomatoes were well prepared and Chef Erica's bacon is excellent. The bread was awesome. On Sunday I will have: Frito Chili Pie. Not as good as Mom's (no one ever is) but it's my staple. Alisa and I loved Eat, Drink and Empower. The food and beverage combinations represented Austin. We now understand & appreciate mixology. Please keep this as an annual event.

We had the specialty fried chicken and the seasonal Wagdi Beef. Neither dish was very good, and to say Fair is kind. The wine pricy, but very good and service were spot on. The only other standout was the "Drunken Bread" appetizer, which was pretty tasty. But overall, I doubt we will not be making another trip any time soon.

This was my first trip to Austin and Saturday I was looking for a last-minute eatery and happened upon Max's Wine Dive on Open Table. I have been wanting to try the location in Houston so felt this was a great opportunity to give the chain a try. Good choice! I had the prosciutto and melon salad with added Scallops and a grapefruit mimosa...DELICIOUS!! Great Atmosphere, great service (I sat at the bar)...I will definitely visit the Houston location!

Max's was a great choice for my group. Our server was extremely helpful with our wine selections. The food was nothing less than decadent. (I've got to try to replicate the bone marrow popcorn at home!). It's easy to see why fried chicken is one of their signature items. I can't say that I've ever had one that was more flavorful. I look forward to further exploring their menu.

Max's used to be a place we would take visitors for a casual, unique evening out. We used to rave about the food and inventive dishes. We could always count on cleaver new things on the menu but fabulous stand-bys. My husband had the hamburger (once rated as one of the best in Texas.) The meat mixture has changed it to be just an ok burger. The chicken sliders used to be a reasonably great taste of the chicken they are best known for. Now it is very thin strips of mostly breading. We apologized to our friends for the raves we made about it. We are sad to say we won't be going back. For whatever reason the changes they made to the menu makes it just an average place to go.

Had a reservation for 7:30 on a Friday night. The place was packed and it was loud. Since we were just having a casual girls night, that didn't bother us much, but probably not the best for a quiet, romantic evening. Our waitress was great. Friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and wines. It took awhile for dinner to arrive so the manager came around and asked if there was something she could do. I suggested a dessert might be great. After the meal, we were full. Since we were staying nearby, she offered to comp the dessert the following night. We came by the next day and she followed through as promised. I will definitely be returning! Great customer service.
