  • "I have been to Max's several times and it is consistently outstanding in all categories -- food, wine, service, and ambience. It is my go-to place for a perfect night out! Brunch is great, too."

  • "We ate at Max's for the first time on a Sunday night and would highly recommend it. There were so many great dishes on the menu it was hard to choose so the waiter assisted and we were all (5) pleased with our meals. The food was incredible...dessert was incredible..service was great! We will be returning and telling our friends about this gem."

  • "Everyone from start to finish is friendly, attentive & professional. I have only been a couple of times, however, I am strongly encouraging all my friends to go! We live in Ginter Park so the location is great also."

  • "Best snapper I have ever had! We will be back! Service was great!"

  • "This was our third visit to Max and we found it to be every bit as wonderful an experience. My brother and his wife from Charlottesville joined us on this trip as my birthday gift to them. Big hit on all fronts!"

  • "Four demanding diners had a meal on Friday night-- We had been before and were disappointed with service but food was so good, it brought us for another try. So glad we did because our service and our food were excellent. Waiter was helpful and attentive despite a very full house. Our food was wonderfully prepared and presented and there were many extra touches. We loved the bread so the waiter brought extra and a doggy bag. ONe diner inquired about the ginger beer so the waiter brought a sample along with a Pellegrino to dilute the spiciness--he also wrote down the names of items about which we had inquired. Only problem was noise level but that's hard to fight when you have a very full restaurant. We'll go back often."

  • "The hotel driver recommended this place. What a nice surprise - it was delicious. We would definitely go back. Was close to the hotel so we could walk."

  • "This was my 4th time going to dinner at Max's. The food was fantastic, the service was fantastic and overall, everything was fantastic."

  • "Max's on Broad has great food and an excellent wine list. It is very conveniently located downtown with valet parking so getting in and out is super easy!!"

  • "We sat upstairs with the windows open and the server was friendly and prompt. The wine list is not that extensive but adequate and reasonably priced. The seared foie gras was as good as I have had since Biga on the Banks in San Antonio. The short rib ravioli and the veal scallopine was excellent."

  • "Loved it!!! Brunch was superb!! We will definitely go back...thought I was in another state, country...not right off Broad Street...WOW!!! What a wonderful dining experience."

  • "Second time here with a group and they did an amazing job. The food is fantastic, the menu is expansive...everything I've had was delicious! Would go back again and again. Only down side is if the bar is full, it's a little difficult to get a drink and no where really to go to stand as it's right by the kitchen and in front of several tables...."

  • "Overall we had a great meal. But there were little problems in execution. The grilled squid in the special salad of the evening was rubbery. The sand vein was not removed from shrimp in the shrimp cocktail. The salmon in the salmon napolean was overcooked. The lobster ravioli didn't contain enough lobster to merit the name. Dessert, however, was perfect. The profiteroles were light and filled with delicious pastry cream and surrounded by a lovely chocolate sauce. I would go to this restaurant again simply because the menu is interesting and the errors in execution didn't destroy the great ideas embedded in the menu."

  • "This was our second time to Max's. Love the energetic scene. The food is fabulous! Just a couple small issues, my husband did not receive a drink as ordered and had to send it back. Also he had an appetizer and then wanted a salad as his dinner. My daughter and I were served our dinners and his salad did not appear until we asked for it. Our waitress was very sweet and we were offered a free dessert as a peace offering. Will return for sure"

  • "Max's on Broad is a wonderful addition to the Richmond food scene. The overall ambiance was vibrant but not overly loud, the view from the second floor was really nice. The wine and beer selections complimented the food offerings, and there was a great range of interesting preparations to choose from. The wait staff was very attentive and efficient. We will definitely be back!"

  • "We had a great dinner! The combination of foods is really interesting such as the pomegranate sauce that is used with the grilled tuna, and the desserts such as the apple streusel are excellent! Our server was knowledgeable, especially about the wine list, and the pacing of her service was excellent as well. We sat downstairs, which seems to be quieter than upstairs and made for a very pleasant evening."

  • "Menu has a multitude of options. Food was DELICIOUS! Server was friendly and attentive without becoming a member of our table. Definitely a place to put on your list of a restaurants to dine. Go now!"

  • "I went to Max's with coworkers and had a great experience! Greg was our waiter and he gave us the strongest customer service in Richmond! the food was amazing, a mix between French and German....the decor was beautiful! I can't wait to go back next week!!"

  • "I have been here several times and am always impressed. The ambience is pleasant, the service always friendly and unhurried, and the food is really ggood. I have brought out of town guests here several times and they enjoyed the meal. There is valet parking for dinner hours which helps."

  • "Stayed at the Jefferson for couple nights and found the restaurant on Open Table. Hate to pay for valet parking so the complimentary valet was a great start! Promptly seated and greeted by friendly server. Love mussels and enjoyed the broad selection--chose tomato based. Tasty and plentiful. Both of us had salmon with a light pastry toping. Salmon cooked perfectly--although expected it to be cooked in the pastry shell rather than pastry laid on top but that is a minor comment. We both really enjoyed our selection and had no complaints. Server was more than up to the task and most professional. Gladly recommend to others and return next time in Richmond."

  • "While I normally love this place I have to say that I was disappointed. I don't know if it was because of the size of our party or if it was just an off day but several people had to send their meals back because they were cold. Others simply did not enjoy their meal but didn't want to say anything."

  • "We drove in heavy traffic from Woodbridge, VA to go back to Max's. We went last Christmas time with some friends and really enjoyed it. This time however, not so much. The service was very good but the food was disappointing. My wife ordered a strip steak, but it had the texture and flavor of a sirloin. Her escargot was bland and tasted of an oil rather than butter and garlic. I had the poutine and braised short ribs. The ribs tasted ok but not great. The poutine was good. The best part of the evening was the beer. Overall we were disappointed given the trouble we went to go again. I hope it was an off day for the kitchen crew and not a trend."

  • "What most restaurants don't understand is that "service" shouldn't be limited to a table's one specific "server". Everyone (and we mean everyone) in this place was friendly, helpful and attentive. The hosts/hostesses, owner, bartenders, servers, bus people... every single person spoke to us and made it a memorable, unique experience. Our specific server was in fact friendly and attentive too, but it takes a village to make an impression like this, and Max's nailed it. The beer list was huge and the food menu was full of yummy sounding options, so we were not disappointed. We were in Richmond for the weekend for a wedding and we choose Max's for dinner based on other people's Open Table reviews... we suggest you do the same :)"

  • "We celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary at Max's. Loved everything about it, from the decor to the truffles-infused risotto."

  • "I've given this place another chance - the food is great, but the noise is so loud. The acoustics don't work well. My friend and I could hardly hear each other talk, we both felt as though we were screaming to hear each other at lunchtime. Next time, we'll sit downstairs."

  • "I had lunch there a few weeks ago and had the BEST waitress and 3 out of the 4 of us loved the food (quiche with crab & gruyere).... this time for dinner.... Noise level (upstairs and down) was VERY loud (all those hard/tile surfaces I guess) to the point that I had to move to the seat next to my friend vs across the table... and that didn't work either. Service wasn't good. Chandler was hard to find and don't remember much about him. Wine was a hassle to order (no waiter - he dashed in/out/away). Bread came late and wasn't good nor was the oil dip (no taste) despite my memory that it was "to die for" when I was there before. The entrees -Chicken/ Pork Chop- were ladened with sauce! I thought I was back in WI/Cleveland - unmemorable."

  • "My dining companion and I enjoyed a long lunch at Max's and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about both the wine list and the menu. The food was great, and the ambiance was perfect for a romantic daytime meal."

  • "This was not our first visit, but it was a wonderful dining experience, again. Great menu, very attentive staff, and a wonderful selection of Belgian beers."

  • "It has been a long time since we have had such a hard time choosing what to order. The brunch menu is loaded with wonderful choices. We will have to keep coming back in order to try everything. We have had two great dinner experiences and now an exceptional brunch one. Probably the best brunch in Richmond. Fast becoming our favorite restaurant ( dinner and brunch) and a first choice to take out of town guests as well as local friends and special occasions. Staff is friendly and service perfect. Great ambience- sat by the window upstairs."

  • "We were in Richmond for a couple of nights and stumbled upon Max's the 1st night to have a quick drink. We ended up staying 3. The service is great and the ambience is awesome. We liked it so much we decided to come back the next night to have dinner. The dinner did not disappoint and was excellent. I would highly recommend you try Max's"

  • "We'd heard great things about Max's, so we took my in-laws for dinner. We made a reservation for 7 pm on a Saturday, forgetting about the theatergoers that usually crowd that area at that time. We ended up waiting 30 min for our table, which was in a rather noisy area. In other situations, this could be frustrating. But the staff was so apologetic and proactive about updating us, we were happy to stand and chat and watch amazing dishes go by. We loved the beer and wine list - my husband particularly enjoyed the Scotch de Silly ale. Our waiter, Tim, gave fantastic recommendations. The appetizers were just the right sizes, and our entrees were all outstanding. We'll probably request an upstairs table, but there will DEFINITELY be a next time!"

  • "It's a shame I can't get to Max's more often because I want to tear through every item on the menu. There is such a wide range of selection in every course it's so difficult to choose. Everything I've ever ordered has been nothing short of fabulous. Be sure to make reservations, 'tho because the place is typically packed. Enjoy!"
