We were recommended by multiple friends to this restaurant. Unfortunately we either picked a bad night or the restaurant is no longer meeting the needs of its customers. From poor service throughout the meal and receiving cold, under cooked mediocre food we were very disappointed. For the amount of money we spent, we expected so much more. And yes, it was restaurant week - no excuses.

I've been meaning to check out Max's after I heard good things from friends, and did so during Restaurant Week. I liked the decor and the layout of the space, but it was pretty loud. That being said, they did have a full house that night with people waiting to be seated, most likely because of the special prices for restaurant week, so the noise was understandable. I'd definitely check this place out again. The food was delicious. I got the beef carpaccio and PEI mussels, and ended with their homemade take on s'mores. My cocktail was tasty as well.

It is my second visit there but will be last for long time. Very interesting, excellent menu. Lively atmosphere, good service and good interior. But the food is not good. Out four dishes (2 apetisers and 2 main dishes) three came so oversalted that were barely edible. It is possible that their flavor was very good but you coul not tell this because everything was covered by salt ( in my normal eating my use of salt is average I do not try tominimize it)

Max's on Broad is a culinary gem, and a feast for the eyes! The hosts and waitstaff are so friendly, and there are so many choices on the menu. I've been there five or six times now, and each experience was wonderful. The steak frites is to die for; the lobster/shrimp crepe is also wonderful. I think my favorite is the salmon napoleon. I think I've ordered that three times now. The barramundi is next on my list. The atmosphere at Max's is so fun, and the place is just so pretty - I especially love the upstairs when the windows are open. I think it is one of the most beautifully decorated restaurants in Richmond. Can't wait to return!

The wife and I dined with a couple of old friends. Two people had fabulous blue point oysters, one had a delicious ouster bake (highly recommended) and I had ratatouille for starters. We followed up with s variety of fish dishes and pasta prima Vera, which was excellent. But the service was the highlight of the experience. Our servers were alert without hovering, cheerful and enthusiastic. Only drawback: it was a beautiful fall night and the big second story windows were open to let in the autumn air. Unfortunately they also let in the traffic noises from broad street, which at times drowned out our conversation. But it was a lovely evening, with great food, good wine, and companionship. Max's is on time!

We dined on second floor; nice seating area. Initially no one came to serve us, waiters would look in our direction but no one came over - I had to find the owner to get someone assigned to wait on our table. Appetizers and entrees were decent; however two of our desserts tasted stale, perhaps had been freezer burned. Waiter took the cost off, which is nice, but the point is that a high class restaurant should have high class food. Max's has potential, but improvement in service and greater attention to detail on food is needed.

Every time we've been here, we try something different and every time we are very pleased with the whole experience. I ordered the Capellini while my wife ordered the Salmon Napoleon. We were torn on which appetizer to start with, so we took our waiter's advice and got the Oyster Pan Roast, which was excellent. We finished our meal with an Apple Struesel and ice cream, also wonderful. The service was attentive in every way. A very nice evening.

We thought the food was fantastic. We were disappointed to have made an advance reservation w a special request to be seated upstairs, only to be seated downstairs next to the front door. Then we got the chance to watch a stream of other guests arrive and get seated upstairs. Not sure what you have to do to get seated where you request.

We attend many plays at the November theater and Max's is always our go to place for dinner before the show. The food and service are consistently top notch. The servers are well informed and helpful. The menu has a lot to choose from and I often find that restaurants lose their way when the menu has a large selection. Not Max's, everything is done well.

This was our second visit and it was just as enjoyable as the first time. I had the Shrimp and Lobster Crepes, which were delicious. My husband had the Filet Mignon for the first and second visit - yes it was that good! We also had the Capellini, Pasta Primavera and Apple Curry Chicken Salad - all got great praise! Great restaurant for a special birthday or with out of town guests. Great service! Ask for a table along the wall if the restaurant is crowded - sitting in the middle of the room makes it hard to hear others at your table. Would love to try their brunch on a special occasion - I've heard it is great!

Made reservations for my husband's birthday-just he and I. Service was very excellent, food was absolutely wonderful. Surpassed our expectations and my husband said he'd go back again. This is not something he says lightly when we eat out. To him, usually a meal out is "alright". We had Tempura Calamari for appetizer, he got Roasted Duck Breast , I had Steak Frittes. Both were outstanding. Chandler was our waiter and was there before we even realized we needed or wanted something. We took dessert to go, S'mores Trio. SUPER!!!!!!!

We were lucky and got seated upstairs, definitely a plus for the view and it is slightly quieter. The wait staff, and in particular, our server, were very attentative and pleasant. Being a Belgium restaurant, two of us went with beer and let our waiter guide us. He did well. Great bread with a dipping sauce. We all had seafood that was enjoyed. I went with the waterzooi with barramundi, so two firsts for me. We all enjoyed our meals very much and had little room for dessert but still managed to tackle a chocolate mousse, bread pudding, and crepes with caramelized bananas between the four of us. A little expensive but in line with the quality of the service and food. Definitely a welcome addition to the Richmond restaurant scene.

Lively, bustling atmosphere in an awesome building. Delicious main course (duck and rack of lamb), but the sides that came with both entrees (mashed potatoes and "seasonal vegetables") were boring, bland, and had no seasoning. The chef's creativity appears to be exhausted after the main component of the dish (the duck and lamb were delicious).

The food itself was excellent, but the experience was significantly lacking. It started with a 30 minute wait at the crowded bar for our table - even though we had a reservation. Seemed like this happened to everyone based on the staff's continued half-hearted attempts to find people at the bar. Our booth was so small that two people couldn't sit directly across from one another without touching knees. As well, tables are so close together that it's like you're dining with everyone else too. Our entrees arrived before I even had the chance to take a bite of my salad. When we finished our salads and they returned with the entrees, one was cold. They remade it (with a weak apology), but it impacted our ability to actually eat together.

We went to Max's for our anniversary dinner and it was the BEST!!! We share two delicious, perfectly prepared meals...Short Rib Ravioli and the Duck...MMMMmmmmmmm! We started with a drink during happy hour and was tempted to just stay at the bar and eat between the great happy hour food (enough for your meal and then some) and the pleasant and efficient bartender (Ellen)! She knew her stuff regarding the beer, wine and mixed drinks! Our waiter, Chandler, tended to us perfectly as well, there enough but not too much...plus had a good sense of humor and was hustling around like no other! Can't wait to go back again!
