  • "We have dined here many, many times and always thought it great. I ordered my usual pastrami sandwich, and discovered that they have cut WAY back on the meat! I usually take half a sandwich home, but not this time. Finished it all and was still hungry. Plus, as an added bonus, I had terrible heartburn as a result of downing the puny thing. I must say, though, the potato salad was delicious. But...we will not return."

  • "Joined friends on July 2 nd for early dinner. The host was welcoming but somehow when guided us to last rear table things felt awkward. Sure enough - sloppy server station. No personality, lackluster, H2O glasses were clunked down, bread basket rolls hard, and lettuce on burger way too old. Once only server asked" everything terrific - right?" Should have replied "nope, your service sucks!" Retire this sloppy server"

  • "We went for Mother's Day breakfast. I know I shouldn't have any high expectations -- this certainly wasn't brunch at the Fairmont but we needed something quick due to a packed day. "Quick" is the last thing we got. We were seated and waited on promptly but once our drink order was taken, we didn't see anyone for close to 20 minutes. I asked another waiter if he could find out waiter and so he took our order, just as our drinks arrived. There was no explanation or apology. Our new waiter made sure things went smoothly from there on out but we got off to a rocky start. I wouldn't go there again for breakfast. "

  • "This branch is not as good as the SF Max's Opera Cafe, perhaps for obvious socio-ecological reasons. Some of the staff were really polite and others less than refined. Some of the staff need more training or their overall maintenance policy needs revision. For example, a staff member stood on the dining chairs in order to adjust/fix the curtains in the main dining room, during peak dining hours, and another used the broom to clear off crumbs from the booths (NO). The food was decent. Weekend prime rib nights are nice, but make sure your server remembers to give you the dessert (she neglected to give to me and my father)"

I did call and apologize to the restaurant late Thursday night when I saw a had a confirmation e mail from open table for earlier that night which we did not show up for. We dined on 2-28-14"

  • "We took our son and future daughter in law to dinner Sat night and had a great time. We sat in a big booth that was partially enclosed by glass, giving us plenty of space to enjoy our meal. Food was good. Service was great. We will return in the future."

  • "We had a large group for dinner. We made a reservation, and when we came early, they were able to seat us right away. The service was great and the waiter was very polite, even calling my 87 year-old dad, young man. Except for the salads, the food came all at once. We were the loudest bunch, but it didn't seem to bother anyone. Most of the food was top-notch. Only one person with a large piece of chicken said it was a bit overcooked so it was not tender. But the chicken pot pie, though pricey, was the best I've every had! I highly recommend Max's."

  • "Food always good. Mom has alzheimer's (pleasant dementia) and because the restaurant is kid friendly they are on task for taking care of mom and me. They are patient and are prompt to provide special requests such as no ice in water or iced tea (lol). We always have ample time to eat ....and the special treat, strawberry icecream My favorite place"

  • "Disappointed with the crew who greeted us. They could not find our reservation at first, it took them a while to find it. There was no Hostess at the front desk, two servers came to greet us, then two more then they were fumbling to see who would sit us, finally one of them said " I'll take them I guess", then I said "if it's not too much trouble" then they felt that I was getting annoyed with their lack of preparation or hostess, and one apologized for the inconvenience. I could understand the disorganization if at the moment had the restaurant been buzzy. But the place was half empty and we were the only ones waiting to be seated. ."

  • "I met some friends for dinner last Friday. I ordered a glass of chardonney and when I asked the server what the difference was between the 3oz pour and the 6oz pour he gave me a blank look. He could have shown me the difference using his fingers as a measuring tool or put 3oz water in a wine glass - anything but a crickets.... Then my friend wanted to know the difference between the starter and entree salad - it was the same thing - crickets. I think this guy needs his medication changed. Other than that, the hostess was great, the busser was great and the food was great. I will definately go back and ask not to be seated at one of this guys tables."

  • "We dined in April 2013 - a family dinner. They have updated their menu, basically omitting several pages from their once extensive menu. Service was slow. The waiter brought me out a batch of burned sweet potato fries! I asked him if they were a little dark and he said taste it to see if you like it! We tried them and SURPRISE they tasted burned! He brought us out another batch and they were cooked well-- no black around the edges. But the rest of the meal was still bad. My son's quesadilla was made with a corn tortilla and did not fit the description on the kids menu. "We have not updated the kids menu yet." We didn't have high expectations but they didn't even meet these. Not going back."

The waitress wasn't told directly, but she picked up on the little clues that were dropped during her conversations with us and for that I can only compliment your staff on their quickness, their attention to detail and their wanting to make a 93 yr. old woman feel special.   • "I've been Max's many times and this time it wasn't as expected. I arrive to check in and a waiter stopped at the host stand and said just a minute we'll have to decide where to throw you. I thought that was an odd greeting. A manager was nearby and was ignoring what was going on. Another girl then gathered menus and starting walking off towards the dining room. Not knowing if she was seating my party or not, I asked again someone nearby if we were to follow her. They said yes so we caught up with her and were seated. Our service was poor, this staff needs training! For this reason, I would no longer recommend this restaurant."

You won't feel transported to Brooklyn, but Max's rendition of the old standby dishes are respectable. The menu ranges far too broadly, though, so stick to the basics or take your chances."

  • "We needed a spot for a large family group to meet for breakfast over Thanksgiving weekend. Max's was one of the few options where we could make a reservation. We didn't expect a great meal, just decent diner-style food where we could eat together. Max's failed to meet that low expectation. Large portions, bland food. Would much rather have half as much food if it were tasty. No wonder it wasn't very full. Won't be back."

A good stop for a late lunch that we needed, but not someplace we would aim for except as a last-minute stand in for something else better than McDonald's."
