Diner Reviews
  • "The best deal and meal you can find during restaurant week! First course of pate was excellent and could easily been dinner for me, but the 2nd course of couscous with mushroom was to DIE for! Creamy...with excellent flavors. Husband had the rabbit, which he totally enjoyed, but I have to say, THIS time, I made the better choice!"

  • "Wonderful service, great food, lovely ambiance......what more could you want?"

  • "Fantastic French food, at a very reasonable price for the Seattle Restaurant Week menu, with very efficient and attentive service (if somewhat aloof...they're French waiters, after all!), and a cozy atmosphere with a killer view...what could be better!"

  • "Overall, I thought the food, I had the halibut, was very bland. Quite disappointed for what I thought would be a special experience."

  • "The location (except for the great water view) not so desirable. The view however is great; we caught the sundown. very pretty. The place is small, bar area tiny; we requested a window table and they were able to accommodate us after a little negotiation and not a long wait after all. The food is realy good, the waiters great."

  • "I rarely write reviews and we're so spoiled in Seattle for great food that it seems hard to find something remarkable nowadays. This evening at Maxilien was remarkable - the ambience, including sunset and ferries was great, but the service and the food were outstanding. Frp! oysters to the lobster special and then scallops, each course was perfect - not rushed and just right to share. I couldn't be happier."

  • "I enjoyed then fixed menu with wine pairing. Oysters and lamb were really good. The view was amazing. I'm seeking out view restaurants and would gladly return again!"

  • "Everything that you want in fine dining...The beef tornado was cooked perfectly, rare and flavorful with a reduction sauce that was perfect. The wine recommended by the waiter, a Gigondas, was delicious. My wife had the duck which was moist and full of flavor. A great meal in a pleasant quiet atmosphere with attentive and helpful waiter. We will definitely return."

  • "Lunch at midday with the restaurant full produced a fairly loud ambience. Three of us had to raise our voices and lean in to hear each other. Once tables started to clear, the ambience was more pleasant."

  • "The food are wine are quite good (though pricey) but the view and service are outstanding. The view and ambiance is one of the best in Seattle."

  • "Booked a table for my dad's birthday dinner. The service was great and they put a candle on his dessert, what a nice touch!"

  • "We love going to Maximilien as the menu, ambience and service is always top notch. My cassoulet was fabulous but the duck breast that my wife ordered was very tough and difficult to chew. We told the waiter who promptly offered to replace the dish but we opted out. They graciously did not charge us for that meal and comped us a desert as well. Superior attention to customers is one of the many reasons we keep returning!!!!!"

  • "I like Maximilien, but the owners can be a little snobby about their French. But the food is good, and worth price. Not outstanding, but never bad either - conventional French. Awesome view - great place to take an out-of-towner. I have heard their new "Zinc" cafe is much better, much less trad."

  • "I took my wife here for a romantic night out and was not disappointed. From the minute we arrived to the moment we left we were taken care of and served with the utmost quality. The food was fantastic and the view was amazing. Can't recommend it enough for couples or small groups looking for good food and great service in a special location."

  • "You can't beat the view. We caught it right at sunset on a beautiful sunny day. It was a classic view of ferry boats, the colorful ferris wheel and the water turning all shades of bluegreen against a glowing yellow sky. Inside this lovely restaurant we were cozy and enjoying escargot and fresh oysters, sole and sea bass and a delicious flourless chocolate cake. All delicious, especially the sea bass, which both my husband and I thought shone. Would have ordered the prefix menu which was a good deal, except that we didn't want the dessert choice and there are no substitutions. Have also enjoyed a wonderful lunch outside on the patio on nice weather days and that's equally special (and there are more oyster choices on the lunch menu)."

  • "This was my fourth time at Maximilien, the first time for dinner. It was all I hoped it would be--a wonderful casual French restaurant in Pike Place Market with great food, a small but diverse and carefully chosen wine list, and the perfect ambiance to enjoy the meal and conversation."

  • "Excellent food. Great venue for a valentines day date."

  • "I took my girlfriend to Maximilien for Valentine's day, and am glad I did. The ambiance is elegant, old world and romantic. Our waiter Sean gave us the best service I have ever had in Seattle, and he explained every dish of the special Valentine menu. The live music, the great view, the intimate setting -- it was perfect place to take that special someone in your life. My only quibbles is the special menu had some pork added to the rabbit and duck dishes (we usually do not eat pork) and the chocolate garnache dessert was a little sweet for our tastes. Next time we will try to ask for a gluten free substitute. And on a normal night this would not be a problem since you would have their entire regular menu to order from"

  • "I don't have a lot of experience with French cuisine, so I can only speak as a relative newbie. We've been here twice so far and both times every dish has had it's own beauty (both in taste and presentation). I suggest going for Valentine's Day, when they have a set menu and optional wine pairing."

  • "Our first visit was out of necessity, hungry on a weekend afternoon, and we were so impressed. The view of the ferries is relaxing, and the food is perennially good. We have eaten with a group, on the deck in the summer, and on special occasions, all handled gracefully by the staff and kitchen. Just a great place."

  • "This was my first time eatting at Maximilien located in the Pike Market in Seattle and I was blown away with both the quality of the food and the atmosphere. Started out with the oysters which were super fresh and for the main course I had the Rabbit and my date had the trout. Both were cooked to perfection and were just the right serving portion. Fantastic wine selection and all the employees were legitimately French and very polite. Highly recommend Maximilien to Foodies, romantic dinners, and for a relaxing dinner. Prices here are reasonable and consistent with other rstaurants in the same category. Able to reserve tables quite easily through the restaurant's website which is very user-friendly."

  • "We went early and got to watch the sun set behind the Olympics while we sipped fabulous red wine and nibbled a fois gras hors d'oeuvre. There are no bad views from this place and the secret second level is even more romantic. This place is an historic Seattle gem. The entire meal was marvelous."

  • "The ambience, view and French cuisine are all fantastic. This was our 2nd visit to Maximilien and we can't wait for our next visit to Seattle to return for a 3rd."

  • "We usually find our way to Maximillien's when craving a special day in the city. The outdoor deck on a sunny day is especially alluring when we realize it can be had with some great French food; akin to eating at a sidewalk cafe in France with a difference - the service is attentive and informative. If the weather is not so inviting Maximillens is nonetheless a great venue. I don't think any seat in the house is without a view, even if only of fellow diners, refelected as they might be in the multitude of large mirrors on the walls. The menu provides a good cross section French cooking. We have also joined them for New Years celebration - lots of fun."

  • "Although I was entertaining ordering a favorite: steak frites........I decided on the plat du jour which was fish (sole) & chips. Exceptional sums up this dish at Maximiliens. This was accompanied with a good French sauvignon blanc and It could not have been a better choice. The staff and service were excellent, the view of Puget Sound outstanding, and the general "French brasserie" ambience were perfection. I can't wait to return for the steak frites."

  • "Dishes above $12 discounted to $12 until game time with Seattle facing off against Denver. Food was fine: my steak-frites was disappointing as the fries weren't crisp and the steak, rare as I requested, was drowned in lukewarm sauce; my friend's duck was to her liking. Both of us enjoyed excellent butter leaf lettuce salads. We were en route to a concert at Benaroya so did not tarry for dessert. (The server arrived to take an order before my guest had taken off her coat; I asked that he give us some space. She ordered a tea, I said I'd be good with water, and he brought the tea and set it up in front of me. When delivering the entrees, he remembered to whom they belonged. I'd not seen him before; even new, one doesn't start the way he did.)"

  • "I always make sure to eat at least one meal at Maximilien when I'm in Seattle. The food is great, the staff friendly and the view is beautiful."

  • "There are hardly any French restaurants in Seattle, so I wanted Maximilien to be great. The service was lovely, the setting nice (although the music was a tad loud), the view was great. The food was okay. The oysters on the half shell, but the cooked food was what I would expect in a restaurant catering to people who do not know a lot about French cooking. Sauces were not nuanced, duck breast was a couple of slices not carved thin enough, there was no discernible salt cod in the cod dish. Their website was misleading about which parking lot to use to get parking paid for. It was my birthday, which I had mentioned on the reservation. Got a candle in the creme brulee, but it was not comped. Total bill was well over $200 for two."

  • "Great french food and great view of Puget Sound. Great service. Table next to us were a little rowdy but it wasn't the restaurant's fault. I highly recommend it. Very nice atmosphere. Great for dates and romantic nights."

  • "First date so I was hoping for a romantic dinner experience and no glitches. Everything was just about perfect, food, atmosphere, waiters, wine, killer view of the ferris wheel all lit up in Seahawks green and blue. The food was delicious, scallops and beef bourginon. I got ready to cut the beef with my knife and if just fell away, so tender and tasty. Scallops as well, sitting on a tasty little pancake/crepe. Nice touch-waiters with French accents. First class all the way around."
