    Parking at the Market is very easy. The Market garage at 1531 Western Avenue is just down the hill from Victor Steinbrueck Park and offers affordable parking rates. Parking is free with validation after 5pm with $20 min.

Maximilien is a romantic and charming French restaurant located in the heart of downtown Seattle's historic Pike Place Market.
Inside, you are greeted by a panorama that takes in Puget Sound, Elliott Bay, West Seattle, and the Olympic Mountains, all framed by huge picture windows.

  • "As much as I'm rooting for them, they were a disappointment. No one was happy with the temp of the drinks and we even asked for ice to add in to our drinks. It would have been good for the waiter to pick up on us putting ice in our drinks to ask if he could replace them with cold bevs, but no. When I asked for the Croque Madame with no ham, the waiter said "Sorry, they are preassembled so there is already ham on it." Really? Preassembled eggs too? That doesn't sound very appetizing. I would ask that the management of this restaurant look at their policies on requests, stop preassembling food (yuk), get more veggie dishes on the menu and check their cooler. All in all, we probably won't go back and won't recommend it to others."

  • "We have periodically dined at Maximilien since it opened decades ago. It has remained consistent in all respects during that time, but the addition of the outdoor deck, with a wonderful view, has been great. The decor is dark, woody, and mildly funky--just enough to know that you are in the Market. The menu is French and somewhat limited--for example, it includes escargot and duck but not other classic French bistrot dishes that one might expect. The food is good but not great--for example, the onion soup is fine but not superb. A pleasant experience with a great view of Elliot Bay."

  • "I was visiting from out of town. I can never decide if Maximilien or Place Pigale is better--but the point is irrelevant--they are both 6 stars in all categories--and basically next to each other. The views from the windows or the deck are spectacular. I do wish Seattle restaurants stayed open later, but then I am used to eating in NY and Paris where you can order dinner at 2 a.m. Great food, great service, interesting wine, and bartenders that know how to make a drop dead Manhattan!"

  • "We invited our daughter to join us during her lunch hour and were extremely disappointed in the time it took to serve the meal. We ordered by 12:10 and received our soups promptly. They were very good. But our main courses did not arrive at the table until 12:50. Our daughter had to ask to have hers boxed and took it with her back to her office. Not a very good way to enjoy a lamb burger. :( Our chicken sandwiches were too well done and disappointing overall. The restaurant was not crowded the day we visited, so do not understand the delay."

  • "I have been to Maximillien's several times. I think this was my last. I like the ambience. The food, especially the onion soup, is good. However the menu is very limited and it is somewhat challenging to find something reasonably healthy and appealing. But what really struck me at our recent lunch was the poor service. The waiter simply had no time for us. He even walked away mid-sentence while "answering" (not really, more like pretending to answer) a question we had. He left the clean plates and silverware stacked on the table, rather than taking the time to set the table. It was all very odd."

  • "The best French restaurant in Seattle! Lovely view with great food. Service runs hot and cold, however. When I saw someone having Moules at another table, and I did not see them on the menu, I asked our waiter what other items do you have that are not on the menu. He said, "None!" When I pointed to the Moules, he said that was only during Happy Hour. I asked when is Happy Hour? He said 5-7. It was 6:30 PM. Many other service issues, but the food and view are worth going. I recomend this restaurant."

  • "We ate here to celebrate Bastille Day. The food was very good, and much better than I expected. The restaurant was very crowded that night but even still, the service was excellent and the waiter was attentive to our needs. He made sure we had what we needed and that our water glasses were always filled. The only small negative I would note was that the maître d' at the front was not that friendly. Maybe he was going for the authentic French experience lol, but in any case I found him to be a little brusque. We had reservations for 7:30 and we arrived about 5 minutes early, but they were still a little late in seating us. Not that big a deal, and could've been due to the restaurant being so busy that night. Overall a great dinner."

  • "We were in from out of town and I hadn't eaten here in 5 years. We ate on the patio and had a table right at the edge. Great appetizer. Excellent scallops and halibut. I am sure there are many seafood places in Seattle, but we had a very nice meal. And service was great on our anniversary"

  • "The service was in the best European style, meaning attentive but not intrusive, friendly and knowledgeable. Not the usual overly familiar style we usually find. Rob was great, and the only way we learned his name was from the bill. Next, the food. I love escargot and this didn't quite make the grade - not garlicky enough and needed salt. However, the halibut with tomato confit was very good. We both agreed that the crème brulee au café was one of the best we'd ever had. We had a great view of the water. Their roof top vegetable garden is pretty. The noise level was pretty much what you'd expect outside at 7:00 but the tables were far enough apart to still be able to hear your dinner partner. Highly recommend!"

  • "We eat here quite often and the food is usually very good. Went for lunch and ordered mussels, they arrived cold, but my husbands were steaming. I hesitated to send them back and then eat my lunch after my husband was finished, however I just couldn't eat them. They brought a new steaming pot fairly quickly. The mussels were to feature bacon, wild mushrooms and fennel, however, only had fennel. Neither pot had anything but the fennel broth. You would think after having to send your meal back that the next one would be perfect, instead of missing 2 out of 3 ingredients. Didn't say anything the second time, just ate a few mussels and left. Hope this was just a bad day there versus a change in the quality of their food."

  • "My husband is fussy about food and every dish he had scored as the 'best he's ever eaten' and that's the top of the high bar. The service was excellent: just enough attention, genuine attentiveness, watchful waitstaff as to where we were in our courses, really quite charming. You could ask any of the waitstaff for help and they all seemed to be 'at your service'. The wine was wonderful - just by the glass for us but delicious and well chosen. Wonderful selections well prepared and presented. I was able to get a series of small plates while my husband enjoyed an appetizer and meal which was perfect, not too heavy but complete. This is our third or fourth time dining here and it's consistently terrific."

  • "I have eaten at many high end restaurants across the country. The food here was great authentic French. Not a thing wrong with it. The service was somehow better than the food. Our waiter was a perfect at his profession in every way. I forgot his name but he was a young man with a heavy French accent. Don't get me wrong he did nothing special but he did every single thing perfectly. Not many waiters wait until a break in your conversation to attend to your table. It was great."

  • "3 of us had lunch on a gorgeous day on the patio. The food was super delicious, but oh so rich. I have an allergy to dairy and eggs, so my food was cooked in olive oil but my 2 friends had the full monty of butter and cream in their dishes. The Copper River salmon was cooked to perfection, the spring peas were so fresh, the French bread so crispy. Everything tasted delicious. the service was great and the view is divine. If only the food was less rich, it would be perfect."

It certainly has a "French" restaurant atmosphere, great service and fantastic food at a reasonable price for the quality. the view of the busy harbor is amazing. We have been customers of this restaurant since it opened in Pioneer Square, I believe it is in its third ownership, which has kept the quality and favorite dishes while adding more casual items. It has a great view, Summer and Winter, and for special occasions (like New Year's Eve) a very nice special program."

  • "I'm from Seattle and often bring first-time out of town guests here for dinner or lunch. Never fails to impress! This time I picked my friends up from the airport and headed straight here for Sunday brunch. Sat on the outside deck on a glorious June Seattle day...quite nice, although I also love the dark wood and intimacy of inside. We started with a dozen Penn Cove oysters...fabulous! The 3 of us ordered the Steak aux Échalote, Wild Salmon, & a burger and each were really tasty...no morsels left on the plates! Service was friendly and professional. They even even tolerated my fractured French! :)"

  • "I had visited the restaurant several times on different occasions. They have an excellent Happy Hour / Bar menu which is very fairly priced. The dinner menu was selective. The French waiter from Lyon (the home town of Paul Bocuse) was very friendly and professional. We had lamb, salmon and scallops. Everything was great! The food, service and location are very good. It is my favorite restaurant in Seattle for out of town visitors."

  • "We have been to Maximilien several times before. It is our new place to go for French food. The service is perfect. You are never rushed and like a true French resturant, you do not want to go there if you are in a hurry to gobble down mediocre food for the sake of just eating. You want to be able to sit, relax and enjoy every bite. Order extra bread to soup up the juices, because you can tell, work went into making them. OR; mix the last drops of your wine in with the juices on your plate and drink! In the end, order the creme brulee with an expresso; they add something that makes it a bit different from others. My husband says, it is coffee, but that may be hard for me to detect as I mix a bit of my expresso in too! Bon appétit!"

  • "Went to Maximilien's for Father's Day lunch. Weather wasn't nice enough for their excellent deck but they were able to seat 7 of us so we still had a great view of the waterfront. A little loud but not unpleasant. Service was professional and friendly and the food was delicious —lamb burger, chicken croissant, onion soup, and duck confit were all nicely prepared and presented. Would recommend to anyone who wants an excellent meal with a great view in a unique setting (inside the Pike Place Market)."

  • "I have been to Maximiliens a couple times when I come to Seattle for work, but this experience might end that. I have ordered the same thing each time as it was incredible. When I looked through the menu this time I could not find it. Asking the server he told me they have never had that and I must be mistaken. I was upset at that and proceeded to show him a picture of the plate with their bar in the background. He still was positive they never had that. The rest of the meal he had a slight attitude that made it fairly uncomfortable. "
