A word from Maximiliano
On the corner of York Blvd and Aldama Street, in Highland Park Los Angeles, there is a place where “Kinda” feels progressive, where the “Old School” is recognized as a source of inspiration and where a chef’s ideas of quality and playfulness redefine what a neighborhood Italian American restaurant and pizzeria ought to be. Chef Andre Guerrero challenges assumptions about Italian American fare, satisfying cravings for quality while remaining affordable. With Maximiliano, Guerrero continues on his mission to elevate classic dining traditions by doing things the right way; with care, creativity and above all a respect for great food.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "I ordered the Potato pizza, and substituted Tomato for Potato. They let me because of the rhyme. But when I took the first bite, my mouth exploded with flavor. Ive been eating pizza, like everyone else, my entire life, and this was, hands down, the best I have ever had. The beer tap was out of order, the only bottled beer I wanted was out of stock and our waiter's suggestions were not good at all, but I don't care because the Pizza is so good! If Spinal Tap were writing this review they would give the pizza an 11! I give it a 12. The interior design was spectacular. Ive worke with top architects and interior designers for a decade, and this place is just about a perfect design: Fun, Playful, Smart! Bravo to the whole team!"

  • "been here a bunch of times and it is always outstanding. The pizza of the month is usually great. They also have very good soups. The porkchop is outstanding."

  • "This was only my second visit to Maximiliano, but it is becoming one of my favorite places. We had a reservation for 2, but my dinner partner added someone at the last minute. This is a very busy restaurant, and it gets fully booked very quickly, so I knew adding a 3rd person at the last minute would be a challenge for the hostess. And it was. But she was very nice and worked hard to sort out a table for us so we didn't have to wait. Not every restaurant that is this popular would go to all that trouble. The food was excellent. I particularly like the various veggie dishes. What a great restaurant!"

  • "I have been to Maximiliano's on numerous occasions and it has always been good, sometimes great. The dining area is noisy and very popular with the younger crowd, but the back patio is peaceful and quiet, perfect for warm weather. The menu is very inventive and has lots of options for vegetarians and vegans. The staff is friendly and the new manager, Matt, seems experienced, observant and interested in input from both the staff and the customers."

  • "Nice addition to an up-and-coming neighborhood. More upscale than the traditional Italian restaurants in Highland Park/Eagle Rock, but not pretentious."

  • "First time here and was impressed. This place clearly didn't just copy someone else's menu, this menu is populated with unique and delicious creations. The price is very fair for what you get. I'm going back for dinner and this is my new brunch spot."

  • "We have been here several times, as it is in our neighborhood, but most recently we sat in the patio, which we had never sampled before. It was very nice! With a deck, nice lighting and a cozy ambiance, though it was odd to see the astroturf on the walls immediately adjacent to the far end. Must be for noise dampening, which I'm sure the neighbors appreciate. It was fun! The food is always very good here. I had the halibut special, which I liked a lot, but I think one of my favorites is always the seafood pasta dish, with black noodles, red sauce and all kinds of shellfish. Yum."

  • "Great service fun environment and interesting food. The white wine selection needs some help but everything was terrific. Chocolate Cake is Incredible! I will dream about it."

  • "It was not Maximiliano's fault that my brunch companion didn't like poached eggs which come with what she ordered. And they were poached perfectly, which meant that I got a good sampling of her pulled pork and biscuits, as well as all of my corned beef hash. I'm not sure why, but the corned beef was good, but not great. The meat used in the sandwiches at the Oinkster tasted better to me so next time I'll try something else. But there will be a next time, which speaks well of the restaurant. Service was great and very considerate. Every dining experience in LA should be that way."

  • "Always listen to the specials. This time, I had the squid ink seafood pasta and it was possibly the best seafood pasta I've ever had."

  • "With 100s of great Italian food restaurants no need to go here. Beatballs a little bland. Pizzeria Mozza much much better Ordered 2 pastas , took 2-3 bytes decided not worth it Chicken good Pizza soggy "

  • "Very nice local spot, tasty pizzas and brunch items were great. Great beer and food pairing menu items. They exclusively have Craftsman Brewery beers on tap, sort of like their unofficial tap room. The herbed house beer was awesome with our pizza! Hey Maximiliano!, till we meet again!!!"

  • "first time to this locale. pasta dishes were satisfying, but we really liked the vegetable options. kale salad was great and roasted cauliflower too. We were actually able to avoid a pizza, but the two at the table next to us looked irresistable."

  • "Fabulous! Had a great time and food is excellent! :)"

  • "We were fans of Andre Guerrero's Max in Studio City and were sad to see it close years back. While the Oinkster is great, it's a different vibe. Finally we took the drive to Maximilianos. Was it worth it! A nice collection of craft beers, amazing pizza (we had the deluxe on our waiter's rec.) and great pasta. The vibe is a both nice and low key - much more fun than Max. It's a different neighborhood that Studio City and as such it's an earthier, artsier crowd. Only complaints, and these are very small - the cacio e pepe was a bit TOO peppery for our taste, and the amazing seasonal raspberry rhubarb cobbler came with a dollop of tart raspberry ice cream - perhaps vanilla would have offset the tartness of the cobbler better. We'll be back!"

  • "Maximiliano's never disappoints. Their pizza is no doubt one of the best in Los Angeles. Other dishes on their menu always look good. Terrific location, great look and feel. Don't miss this "neighborhood gem". "

  • "except the food took way too long to get here especially given the fact the restaurant was barely half full. Hesitant to come back if the restaurant is busy, i can't imagine how long the food would take then."

  • "The cioppino with shell fish, spinach or rapini pasta and jalapenos was as daring as it was unique. Never had anything that good in a restaurant. The butternut squash soup was smooth and rich and totally satisfying with the bread plate (crusty with soft chewy middle). I'm so glad I was hungry enough to eat all of it. It was worth every pound I spent the next two weeks trying to lose. I'll go back and do it again, gladly. Full contact food for robust flavor seekers."

  • "Loved it! I would definitely go back to try all the other things. If they had gluten free options for pizza and pasta, this would be my favorite place."

  • "We love this wonderful neighborhood restaurant. They serve well prepared, creative, delicious, fairly priced Italian fare that keeps us coming back week after week. The service is attentive, fun, and perfect. The food comes out hot and tastes incredible. You have to give this spot a shot!"

  • "I'm new to the area and went exploring this weekend. Maximilianos was great! The pizza was delish, the beer menu was fun, and the wine list looked comprehensive as well. The atmosphere was relaxed and the service was spot on. I will definitely be back and I definitely recommend it."

  • "Five minutes away from home is this neighborhood gem, Maximiliano's, where I can depend on delicious food, friendly service, and easy parking. Though I've eaten here numerous times, it was my first dinner in the back garden. My friends and I could hear each other, in the quiet setting. It was a bit chilly, and our waiter offered us blankets! (That was a first!) The geraniums were in full bloom which added color to the space. We all chose pastas, and it was fun passing the plates when we got a little bored with our dishes. They were all consistently delicious, prepared to individual requests; no bacon, please, not too spicy, please! Maximiliano's has a special vibe, and you get the impression that everyone has been there before!"

  • "I am amazed by their ability to make simple food taste so amazing. The lemon zest in the meatballs is fantastic. We had a group of 5 we ordered salad and six entrees, we shared all and enjoyed each one of them. The flavors are delicate, identifiable and each ingredient makes a positive addition to the tasting. The wine we ordered paired nicely with most"

  • "Maximiliano is our neighborhood spot that consistently has terrific Italian food and wine in a casual atmosphere. So glad they are in our "hood". We had pasta with spicy sausage and several of the vegetable sides and for desert - sorbets were delicious."

  • "We were seated quickly, the service was good. The wine selection was acceptable. It was a Friday night, so there were many others dining. We sat inside and it was a bit loud for my taste. We split the cauliflower and the white pizza special. Both were very good, but the buckle dessert was literally the best I've ever had."

  • "I have eaten here happily in the outdoor section a few times, but most recently was seated indoors (party of 3) on a crowded night. Noise level made conversation almost impossible. Would never do that again. Also service was slow and waitress didn't explain that a particular beer would be served in a 5 ounce wine glass because it was so strong. Who wants 5 ounces of beer? I should have sent it back. Food was good. Parking is always a challenge."

  • "We found this restaurant on Yelp--had no idea it was in our neighborhood. The pizza of the month was very solid. Excellent crust, inventive combination of flavors. The Pasta Puttanesca with Anchovy was excellent. Hard to imagine this dish any better. The wedge salad was perfect. The bit of bacon jam was a nice touch. I am STILL thinking about the desert. A fig and date buckle with a dollop of ice cream. (I want the recipe!) The wait staff were pleasant and looked like they enjoyed working together. This is a fun restaurant with great food at a reasonable price."

  • "Been here many times - no surprises, everything has always been good and the prices are reasonable. There are menu options, vegan, vegetarian, meat, for everyone. It continues to be a "go to" place for us. Recommend reservations because it can get very busy."
