Max is special to me because it
was where my husband took me on our 1st date nearly 4 years ago. We were married exactly 1 year later. We've only returned to Max a handful of times to keep the experience special and unique, as well as nostalgic. This past time was the first time we'd been to the Tribeca location. Each time prior had been at the East Village location which unfortunately is now closed. The experience remained just as special because we invited some friends from out of town to join us who we hadn't seen in about 2 years. They reveled in the food just as we had, and said they can't wait to go again the next time they're in town. It was the perfect evening with friends, food, and wine, topped off with tiramisu and cappucino."

This small, yet intimate spot is a
great way to begin a night out or a cozy way to close down an evening. The experience here depends largely on how many and what type of diners experience the restaurant during your visit. Reservations are suggested, especially for weekends, and be ready to overhear all conversations going on around you. In terms of food, we found the Pizza di Max to be somewhat falsely advertised (had a hard time finding the fennel, though the mushroom flavor came through), and we found the Mushroom Ravioli absolutely on point. The olive oil was terrific, as well. Overall, we had a satisfying experience and will return."

The food is fantastic. One of my
favorite, intimate Italian spots in NYC."

From the moment we walked in, the
hostess Rosanna, told us we would need to vacate our table for another party because they booked all reservations back to back. She tried stopping us from ordering dessert or more wine to rush us out. She was very rude. I wouldn't go back because of her."

We had a great dinner at Max in
late January - great rustic Italian food and nice wine list - even catered for kids without fuss - cool vibe without being too pretentious."
Dined on 1/31/2014
The food and service was great and
it was a nice opportunity to have a low key dinner with friends. I ordered the ragu rigatoni but was extremely jealous of my friends squid ink spaghetti. The only downside, it's a small space and hard to get around if you have more than 3 people."
Dined on 1/17/2014
Easy, relaxed, very casual
atmosphere and reasonably priced."
Dined on 1/18/2014
Food was great. Wine perfect.
Waiter Ricardo remembers everything from my recent visits. Service exceptional. Had a great time as usual. Can't wait to go back."

Hole in the wall in Tribeca, yummy
food. Specials are kind of expensive tho"
Dined on 12/14/2013
A good place to share a pizza as a
starter, then an appetizer. Add 2 main pastas and you have a winning combination. All staff are helpful and efficient. Nothing extraordinary, but always reliable."
Dined on 12/12/2013
We had lunch here and it was both
very good and very nice. We sat by the window, and it was both cozy and nice. I had the Max's special panini, and it was quite yummy. My friend had the basic red sauce pasta, and she enjoyed it as well. We were not rushed and the restaurant was uncrowded, so I think it would be a nice place to have a leisurely lunch with good food and a relaxed ambiance (we had to run, but they were happy to let us sit had we wanted to)."

Max's is a great little spot! The
food is amazing. Particularly the gnocchi!"
Dined on 12/11/2013
Made reservation one month in
advance but ended up in the dark corner by the window. Asked for candles but got the reply they didn't have any. Freezing cold and no support when we asked for help with arranging a taxi. (Not many cars passing and it was torrential down pour). Not impressed."

I've been enjoying the Rigatoni al
Ragu Napolitano for over a decade. After living out of state for several years, I was thrilled to return to find that it was everything I remembered! Perfect! :)"
Dined on 12/7/2013
very local and neighborhood
stlye, not a show place, but the food will definately be good"
Dined on 12/2/2013
I love the relaxed feel of this
place. It has an intimate, cozy vibe like a romantic hide away. I definitely would return to try more dishes. While the lasagna wasn't my favorite, my dining companion loved the eggplant dish and it did look delicious. Service was well-timed and friendly." Its a nice, affordable choice in Tribeca."
Dined on 11/21/2013
Pleasant staff, good food, nice
interiors. Overall good experience."
Dined on 11/19/2013
I have been to Max many times as
this is the place I bring my out of town guests for a "neighborhood gem." We were on time to our reservation, but had to wait 15 minutes. Another group of the same quantity showed up and were seated immediately without waiting. Wouldn't you give the open table to the group having waited the longest? Also, toward the end of our dinner, we were finishing up our bottle of wine pretty slowly and chatting. The management asked us to go to the bar to conintue drinking with a round on the house. We appreciated that extra glass of wine, but felt that we were being ushered out, while when we showed up, they did not usher out the previous group before us."

Had an excellent meal--service was
great. Very reasonable for NYC."
Dined on 11/16/2013
We shared the food: fennel salad,
pizza, pasta: all were very good. Inexpensive glasses of red wine topped off an quick neighborhood dinner. We wanted a quick, good meal after a day of traveling back to the city: a perfect choice."
Dined on 11/3/2013
Food was good, reasonably priced
and great service. Will definitely return."
Dined on 10/27/2013
On a positive note, the food was
good! However, the negatives are as follows: 1. Two out of three of us were present. We were waiting for a third person to arrive in a few minutes. When we asked to be seated, they sort of ignored us. 2. They sat the three of us in a table made for two. 3. The soup I ordered came in a regular sized bowl. The problem was that there was about 2 ounces of soup in the bowl. It should have been 4 to 6 ounces st a minimum. 4. They don't have tea. What restaurants today don't carry tea even if they only offer one - Lipton tea. I guess Max doesn't! Although the food is good, the impersonable staff, soup portion, cramped seating would make me think twice about going there again."
Dined on 10/23/2013
Food was great and priced
reasonably. Ordered squid ink pasta and it was bit spicy for wine. Loved grilled mix vegetables."
Dined on 10/18/2013
Good local spot in heart of
Tribeca. Small restaurant, so tables close together. Food was tasty - don't miss the fried olives!"
Dined on 10/17/2013
My first experience at Max and it
didn't disappoint. Warm, welcoming, wonderful menu & service. The dalad was uninspired but fresh and cold. My main course of grilled salmon, mashed potatoes over spinach was very well executed served quickly and hot from the grill. My friend had the eggplant parm. w/ spaghett, i which I tasted, was also very good. The space is too dark, I couldn't read the menu. It's a tiny (cozy) space and bi level (lofted). Friendly greeting. Not expensive, very good red wine. Nice experience but won't be running back as it's deep into Tribeca and very out of the way."
Dined on 10/15/2013
This was my second time dining at
Max's. The food was still delicious, though somehow not quite as good as our first visit. I'll certainly still be back & still consider this the best casual Italian restaurant in the Tribeca area."
Dined on 10/12/2013
No table cloths, cheap paper
napkins, one fork for appetizer and main, entrees are $15 to $20 then drinks should not be $15 each. Inexpensive restaurants are needed. This restaurant did not end up inexpensive."
Dined on 10/6/2013
The upstairs area was a little
warm in temperature. It is the2nd time I've been there where upstairs gets warm & a little uncomfortable. The waitress was nice but both she & the bus boy kept wanting to clear the table & interrupting conversation. It was almost irritating. I've been to Max's multiple times and this time, the food came out way too fast leading me to believe that the food was already made and just heated up. I've never experienced that at Max's before. The food was good but made us feel like it wasn't fresh and made to order. The noise level is so high that you feel like you're screaming at times."
Dined on 10/4/2013
Great food and relaxed atmosphere.
Perfect place for dinner with friends!"

Used to love this restaurant and
had been going there for years, sometimes two to three times a month. Took my parents there on Friday night and had the most obnoxious waiter. Our table was at 8 and we were shoved a check in our face at 8:45. Subsequently, the waiter asked not once but twice with in the next five minutes if we were leaving soon as they had other customers waiting. Even Taco Bell doesn't do that. Step it up max. You used to be good because of yor service. Not anymore."
Dined on 9/21/2013
Pasta was mushy and overall
flavors were muddled. Service was Ok at best. There are far better alternatives in the neighborhood."
Dined on 9/9/2013
I went there with my girlfriend
and had a blast. Fantastic food, good wine, great venue. The prices were very affordable, so I almost feel like I'm hacking something here. The only downside, I would say, was the first waiter that served us. He seemed to be pressuring us to choose our dishes fast. I believe this is a particular thing to that guy, every other person was very kind. Also, we didn't mind, we were having a good time. Overall: a must go!"

Max's is DELICIOUS! I've lived in
the area for several years, always knew Max's was there, but never tried it. I finally went with family & was SO GLAD I did! We had a 7:00 reservation but were ready much earlier. I called Max's & they gladly accommodated our earlier arrival. Everything we ate was delicious. I'll definitely be back!"

Great value - this quality food in
Manhattan is usually more expensive"
Dined on 8/18/2013
Good vibe, good decor, good
service, but lasagna is overrated. Mine was super hot inside and room temperature outside - which usually means it was sitting around beforehand and MICROWAVED. Yuck. If I want cooked food that's been sitting in the fridge then microwaved then I'd go to Guy and Gullard. Yes, I know the lasagna is prepped beforehand but for god's sake reheat it in the conventional or convectional oven. (not the microwave oven.)"

Highly recommend the new pizzas
and the porcini ravioli. Yum."
Dined on 8/10/2013
This place was selected based upon
the reviews i read before, however once I was there i realized this was not what I expected. It was too dark and dim inside. The food was okay, nothing that would make me return. I had the skirt steak, which lacked flavor. My friend had the pasta which seemed dry, and as if it was not made fresh. I would not recommend it."
Dined on 8/4/2013
Found this place via Open Table
based on its Tribeca location and was beyond pleased! Unbelievable pastas - we have three at our table, one better than the next. My fettuccini with Bolognese was one of the best I've ever had and same can be said for the lasagna and ravioli the rest of my table ordered. Plus they have a wonderful kid's menu that is not only extensive, but has elevated offerings for the little ones. Not the same old junk. Prices were great too - definitely will be back, as well as will tell all my friends to go."
Dined on 8/3/2013
Small space food was good though
the lobster ravioli came with a spit meat sauce which I don't think was the best combo. The black squid spagetti was good. The problem was the noise. Maybe it was just a bad night where there were large tables but the noise was so loud it spoiled our mood and couldn't even talk amongst ourselves. We couldn't hold a conversation. We had a record breaking dinner date 45 m, left and had drinks elsewhere. It was a huge disappointment for date night"

We live across the street but have
never ventured in. We decided to go with a large group for an early dinner. The service was good although we were the only ones inside. Food was very good and reasonably priced. Portions not huge,,, everyone seemed to finish their plates. Ambience is kind of drab, but I did appreciate the quiet time. SO many TriBeCa restaurants are noisy. I would recommend the pear pizza ."
