A word from Max Lager's Wood-Fired Grill & Brewery
Max Lager's was one of the first restaurants to bring the fresh and natural wood-fired menu concept to Atlanta. The art of cooking with wood enhances the Max Lager's experience with bold flavors simply not found with alternative cooking methods. We feel that the investment made in the wood-fired grill is an investment that pays great dividends to our guests.

All Max Lager's menu items are prepared daily from scratch. Wood-fired steaks, burgers, seafood, ribs, and pizza are Max Lager's signature items. An inspired selection of entrée salads and pastas add variety to the American menu.

Diner Reviews
  • "I was on a trip to Atlanta recently with my son. We were famished after our trip to the Georgia aquarium and we found this gem on the way back to the hotel. Fantastic food! Fantastic micro and craft brews!! The service was awesome. Very friendly servers who know the menu and the beer. In fact it was so good we went there the next night for dinner. Try the pork chops and the southern fried chicken you'll be doing yourself a favor if you do. Can't wait to go back to Atlanta to try it again."

  • "In town for the first time and enjoy eating at local spots versus big brand eateries and really like to go to micro breweries for their beers. Atmosphere was below average and house brews we limited. Food was good but typical bar classics selections. Was hoping for more."

  • "Like this place alot. The food was good and nice selection of beers. Not fancy but fun. One complaint - the booth seats are too low for the tables."

  • "I was in town for the week in Atlanta for a major trade show and we looked up on trip advisor and noticed Max Lagers and felt we had to get there so glad we did! A very vibrant scene tastefully done service was outstanding Jeff Hoskins was our server extremely knowledgeable of their beers and very passionate about the items on their menu. We didn't really even need our menus because Jeff's recommendations were outstanding we brought back an even larger group the next night everybody had a wonderful evening and raves about how good the food is in the craft beer selection Without hesitation I would return to Max Lagers the next time I'm in Atlanta"

  • "1st time in Atlanta, found on internet. what a great place, server, jeffery, was amazing, was very knowledgeable about the beers. being a brewer myself, he made great choices for me and my wife. hope to go back sometime, if we can get through the traffic first."

  • "This was a recommendation by the hotel staff and they were right! The fried chicken, mashed potatoes and collard greens were OMG Good! This is my first stop whenever I am in town"

  • "It was my annual visit to Atlanta--and we couldn't pass up an opportunity to dine at Max Lagers! The local beer is wonderful, and the food is fantastic!!! What an awesome menu! The major disappointment both times we've been there was the service. Sad to say the hostesses and servers almost ruined the experience again this year. We felt very rushed, almost like an inconvenience, and the only smiles were from the bartender! Server this visit did not go over any specials, did not have a recommendation on beer, and did not smile or engage our group the whole time."

  • "Whatever you do, don't order desert to go; smallest piece of key lime pie I've ever seen. Food over priced and average. Beer is probably what you go for. Service not bad until they get busy. Noisy. Best part about it is that they are on Open Table so you can make a reservation easily. Good location if you are staying downtown."

  • "I took a friend in from Portland OR. The wine was so-so (and hard to compare to Portland's wines), the salad was average and the flat bread was horrible. The chicken was very dry, the crumbled cheese was just as dry, if not worse than the chicken. Very disappointing considering the reviews. The wait staff was nice though!"

  • "We were seat quickly. Waitress was excellent. All services were helpful and friendly. Pork Chops were awesome. Gravy was rather spicy. Enjoyed the beer sampler. Great place to have a good beer and meal. Good value for the cost of the meal."

  • "I could write a book on how dissapointed i was with this restaurant. Its a good neighborhood bar I guess, but since we were visiting...not so good. our server never cracked a smile. did the minimum required. very dissapointed. Food was okay. the Tenderloin was anything but tender! I will never go back! Sorry! Maybe I expected a little more ambience considering the pricing! :( Way too loud for an evening dinner."

  • "In town for a single night with our teenage son, we were looking for a place with an interesting menu and quality food. Max Lager's met our expectations. There were fun spins on traditional Southern dishes and good seafood options. For beer-drinkers, it's a no-brainer -- many fun choices -- but there were thoughtful selections for those wanting wine by the glass as well. After starters and main courses, we regretted that we were too full for dessert, since that sounded good too. We were happy with our choice and would easily recommend it to others."

  • "Dined while in Atlanta on business. Liked it so much we returned again during our 5-day stay. The first night I had the Low Country Trout with spicy sausage and crawfish jambalaya. The entree and Arugula Salad were both prepared very nicely with lots of layered flavors. The second night I had the Wood-Fired Filet Mignon and the wood-fired flavor was excellent as was the preparation - medium rare right on. I'm a wine drinker but we had a beer while waiting for our table both nights. It was worth the wait and I highly recommend this restaurant for neo-upscale food at fair prices."

  • "Having a reservation was great and ideal for staying at the Hyatt place that is right next door!! My steak potatoes and green beans were all great! The kids pizza & ribs were great sizes..on the larger side. The brewery aspect we enjoyed and the boys 10& 11 even enjoyed playing a game of pool upstairs!"

  • "Everything was delicious! I started with the mac n cheese for appetizer and it was perfect. I ordered the fried chicken, which was drizzled in some type of honey based sauce, collard greens and mashed potatoes. I was very pleased with my food. I can't wait to go back."

  • "My wife and I went to Max Lager's recently a conference trip to Atlanta. We started our meal with the mac and cheese skillet, and each of us ordered a pizza. The pizzas were cooked perfectly, and we enjoyed the puffy but crispy crust. Though Max's has an extensive beer list, we chose a nice Spanish tempranillo instead and were happy. Max's isn't a fancy place, but it's a great place for either a couple or a large group and worth considering if you're visiting downtown Atlanta."

  • "Had a wood-fired pizza which was very good. Fried green tomatoes were also good, as was the on-tap root-beer. Prices were very reasonable and the staff was good. I would definitely visit again."

  • "Tasty craft beer assortment and a respectable amount of food to choose from the menu. A very good, but not over the top experience. Very little customer urgency, especially after placing food order (welcome to Atlanta). Waited on beer refills. Waited on spoon to go with chowder, etc. Meal ended on an upbeat note with a delicious steak prepared as ordered."

  • "I stumbled upon Max Lager's while searching for a Valentine's Day dinner and decided to give it a try. That was one of the best dining decisions that I've made in a while. My fiance and I enjoy trying lots of different types of drinks, so we were both immediately drawn to the large beer and drink list. Our server, Jeff, asked us what we normally liked and then made several great recommendations. He also recommended his favorite dishes which were also phenomenal. It was immediately obvious that the menu was prepared by someone who knew how to take seemingly ordinary meals and take them to the next level. The atmosphere, amazing food and drinks and unbeatable service has made this one of my top choices around Atlanta."

  • "We travel to Atlanta once a year for a cheerleading tournament. This year we tried Max Lagers and we will definitely make it a yearly visit. The pork chops were outstanding. The flat bread appetizer was delicious. They have a craft beer selection for all tastes. Great ambience."

  • "Online reservations: receptionist, seating and server taking our drink order took only minutes. Each person that greeted us was smiling and courteous (pretty too) and was the start to a fun filled evening. Tori, our waitress seen that we were well taken care of during our dinner and shared history of the establishment even recommended her favorite desert (fried cheese cake). The venue, service and food made our date (going on 32 years) a night to remember. Keep up the commitment to excellence and look forward to seeing you again soon! Rick B. Newnan, GA"

  • "The food was really great. We had a noisy group there that made it a little unpleasant, but it was not the restaurant's fault. I think the ambience and the noise level would be reasonable. The bison burger I ate was excellent. My fiancé had a salmon salad and said it was amazing. I would definately go back. Make sure you check out the information on the complimentary valet."

  • "A lovely beer selection from brews done in house is the main reason you will pick this place. Sure, the food was good overall - but this is really mostly about the craft beer than anything else. I did have a Cowboy Steak, and the butter used on it was very flavorful. The caesar salad was okay, but wasn't a big fan of the dressing. Wait staff was pleasant and helpful - will go again next time I am in ATL."

  • "No real complaints. The food tasted great and their brews were delicious. A bit pricey and our server was too anxious to turn our table over and was a bit on the rude side. I'd return as he could've just been having a bad day."

  • "We had a great time visiting this down town gem. We got seated with a group of 14 and the service was great. Farm to table pub food and some the best beer I have ever tasted. Try the Hopsplsion ipa or the Imperial Mocha Oatmeal Stout( IMOS)...outstanding!"

  • "We had three diners and it was our first time at Max Lagers. The décor was dated - tears in the carpet and the seat cushions. We ordered Gumbo, Maxadilla and a Pasta dish as well as drinks. The food was edible, but not memorable. The waitress said they never have "specials." The service was slow and yet it wasn't very busy. For dessert we ordered the fried cheesecake and it took an incredible amount of time to receive. The staff was friendly and helpful, but the food left a lot to be desired. I wouldn't go back."

  • "Five of us came to this restaurant because it was close, casual and convenient. We were expecting a typical, cheesy sports bar but were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food! Appetizers and entrees were served quickly and all were hot and delicious! None of us had been here and we came away converts! We will all be back and bring friends!"

  • "When we are in downtown Atlanta we always make a stop at Max Lagers. WE go for the food and beers brewed in house, The food is high quality-I had the NY strip. Done as ordered. The onion rings are really good. Service when we went was rushed. We were a party of 3 and we were in and out in an hour. The main course was served shortly after the appetizers arrived. Server gave us a weak apology, Stopped back at the table once to see if everything was okay, then again to deliver the check. Not bad but we didn't drink alot so I guess we didnt fit their profile"

  • "Another great dining experience at Max's. Wife had the Manhattan Clam Chowder and the grilled pork chop. I had the Fire & Spice onion rings and the BBQ spareribs. Both cooked perfectly. When you enter Max's, you get the smoked grill aroma and your mouth starts watering. Great home and local brewed beer. A great dining experience."
