  • "Max Fish is one of my favorite restaurants. I've been there twice in a month. The food is consistently of high quality and fresh. I have had various servers in my visits and all are excellent: well trained, efficient but, most of all, they never rush you! Max fish allows you to enjoy your dining experience. I have tried a variety of menu items and each trip my decision becomes harder because every dish is so good. Portions are a good size. You will not leave hungry. My most recent visit was 4/16/14 and I was meeting my college roommate whom I had not sen in a year. We were surprised to find out that Max Restaurant group was having their own restaurant week specials. Not only was it a pleasant dining experience but also a deal!"

  • "This restaurant is very very busy. The entry is crowded, smalll and noisy so do not expect to arrive early for a drink at the bar unless you do not mind standing and talking loud. Once you are seated at your table the noise level is reasonable and you can talk and enjoy a fine meal."

  • "selection of seafood was great and the quaility of the shirmp and oysters were fantastic. we were looking for PEI oysters and they were not on the menu but asked Mark (our server) and he was kind enought to check and they had some! very pleasant and accommodating. definitely looking forward to our next visit."

  • "This was the first time I've gone to brunch at Max Fish and it was a wonderful experience. Sitting down, we were greeted not only by a very friendly server, but she brought along with her little fruit frappes and mini beignets. Brunch was amazing- my friend and I split the filet mignon benedict and the crab cake benedict for our own breakfast surf and turf. The bloody Mary bar is a must, you can get one or go big and get a bottomless version of it giving you unlimited trips to make your creation at the actual bar buffet set up to create your masterpiece. It was a wonderful experience and we will be back."

  • "Fantastic food, service and environment. They really do a great job on every point, making dinner with the special someone just heaven. We like to go early for a cocktail at the bar, the bartenders are terrific too. (Only complaint is that the bar fills up!) The wait staff is terrific. They give you a good set of choices will recommend things and are so attentive and helpful. Always a great time to go to Max Fish - our favorite place in Connecticut."

  • "We had bad service. Very slow and inattentive. The server was so slow we did not have time to order dessert and we were there celebrating a birthday. We also were almost late picking up our kids because service was so slow. The restaurant also removed the 3 dipping sauces from the calamari--big mistake. This is my favorite restaurant in Connecticut. I am disappointed. Our party of 6 was disappointed. There was also a man in a suit who worked there hovering right behind our table. He was glaring at someone. Not sure if it was our table or one nearby but it was weird. We had our son's adoption party at this restaurant a year ago because we love it so much. The party was perfect. Not sure what happened this last visit?"

  • "Occasions for dining: Looking for a nice dinner / Bring someone for special occasion Last visit: It was her birthday. My girlfriend and I started with two Atlantic and two Pacific oysters. The waitress did an excellent job explaining their differences to me as I am not well versed in that area. For a main course, she got the Yellowfin Tuna and I tried their Mako special. Both meals were visually enticing and tasted amazing. We decided to split a dessert, which was a good idea since the portion size of the creme brulee was enough for two to enjoy. We sat down at 5:30, the happy hour at the bar was lively and filled with business professionals from the area. The noise settled down quickly after 6:00 and we enjoyed a nice evening dining out."

They had a high chair ready for us, and the server was considerate of our special needs because of having a baby with us.   • "I had the Market Catch Atlantic Cod. There were two pieces from the tail section cooked with the skin on. The thickness of the fish was less than a 1/4 inch. Due to being so thin and being cooked with the skin on, the flavor was not that good. Also, the portion was extremely small. I would say this was the most disappointing meal I had had at Max Fish. My wife had tuna which was very good."

  • "Max Fish is a little bit of a drive for us, but it is worth it. The variety of fish and gourmet preparations are exceptional; the only reason I gave it 4 stars is because my husband was disappointed that halibut was not on the menu! I gave the service 4 stars because we waited a long time for our dinner; up until then, the salads/soups and bread were delivered in a reasonable time frame. We dined later in the evening (8:15 PM arrival), so I think we caught the waiter at a bad time. I recommend getting a reservation, so you'll walk right in instead of waiting. We enjoyed the striped bass special and the grilled maui maui. Also the chocolate cake is divine!"

  • "Celebrated ST Parrcks Day. Corn beef (a bit tough) and cabbage was not great - but it's not a notable dish here. The raw bar is consistently excellent. Tuna tartare - super spicy this time. Will ask for less fire next time. Service always the best. Fun night out!"

  • "My husband and I attended brunch there with my Aunt on March 16th, we had some shellfish and I had the crab cake Benedict. Food was amazing I loved the veggies mixed in with the potatoes. My husband had the skirt steak which he said was perfectly cooked. My Aunt had the salad with scallops on it, she said it was delicious. I didn't care for the smoothie it was green and tasted like an under ripe banana. Overall definitely attend this brunch!"

  • "I went to this restaurant with 4 friends for lunch. Everyone enjoyed their food. I had their Lobster Cobb Salad - its simply the best! Another had the Hot Lobster Roll and she was really impressed. The service was outstanding. Ben, our waiter was attentive but not overly so - seemed to know when to stop by - all of us were really impressed and will certainly make this place one of our "usual" places to have lunch."

  • "We have been returning customers to Max Fish for a long time. The quality seems to have to declined a bit. We shared a calamari appetizer which used to come with 3 dipping sauces and now just comes with one. I ordered the Arctic Char special and this is the second dinner there that the fish was overcooked which is surprising for a seafood restaurant. The preparation was ok - nothing special. My husband had salmon which he enjoyed. Vegetables are all a la carte - most preparations are done with a starch but little to no veggies. We finished with the Sundae which was delicious. Service was excellent and we had an enjoyable evening. We just remember better, tastier, more inventive meals when they first opened."

She was very informed about the specials and helpful in taking care of our orders. We enjoy all the Max restaurants and are not disappointed at any of them."

  • "What great service. Max on a Thursday night feels like a weekend. The atmosphere is vibrant and high spirited. Our waiter was knowledgeable upbeat and funny. He walked us through what can be a complicated menu of enticing choices. What I like most is that you can always find unique favors. I had mussels to start in a green cilantro curry base-loved it. While I was surprised that by 7:39 they had already run out of one of two specials for the night; with so many other choices I was not disappointed. I had a Mahi-mahi over a shrimp pad Thai. I enjoyed the dish, but parts of the fish were a little dry. My friend had the short ribs which melted nicely in your mouth. Overall a fun dinning experience!!"

  • "Having eaten here for several years, the bar is by FAR the best place for service and food quality. The bartenders have personality and are totally in tune to their customers. We rarely have to wait for service. I have also observed that if we need something on our plate "tweeked", the bartenders get this done FAST. We wish this level of service existed in the second half of the restaurant."

  • "After two prior attempts thwarted by our gawdawful winter, we finally got to Max Fish. We shared the raw sampler and my dining mates reported that it was very good - I had an oyster and a mussel - delicious. The calamari was wonderful with a perfect zing (went with the Zydeco playing in the background). The Yellow fin tuna, barely warmed, was perfect with the lobster bisque. I drooled as I watched my dining mates consume the desserts. (OK, I HAD a taste of the monster fudge sundae thing with caramelized bananas and it WAS sooooo good). Will be back with friends. The decor with the white subway tiles captures the ambiance of a real New York fish house. Third time was a charm!"
