Max Brenner, Chocolate by the Bald Man, the first restaurant entirely devoted to chocolate, provides a "chocolate mood:" a person being surrounded by huge bricks, candles, pralines, colorful toy tins and crates filled with cocoa beans. "Bar service/staff were great, should have eaten at the bar. Dinner service was very slow, almost 2 & a half hours for 2ppl. We think the waitress forgot to put in our dinner order. Food was okay, appetizer & dessert were the best part but over priced for what they were, based on the price of the entree I was dissapointed with the flavor & presentation. I got the Pan tossed Penne 'Alfredo' my husband got the rissotto. We tried the Urban S'Mores for dessert the presentation of the open flame for roasting your marshmellows was nice, but the description of what was to be served and what we got were different so we were confused but the waitress didn't come back to check on us for like 20 minutes so we couldn't ask her."

"Great food - loved the sliced & diced steak "pillow" Panini--every bite was delicious! the chocolate cheesecake crepes was one of the best crepes I have ever eaten and it's description on the menu doesn't do it justice -- it was incredible! I highly recommend both! Thanks for a great food experience!"

"Our experience was underwhelming. The space between tables was very tight - the person to my left and I bumped elbows several times. We asked for bread because my kids were so hungry, and was told that they usually don't bring bread before the dinner, so it would be $2 extra. The bread arrived AFTER our food, and we were charged $3.50 for literally 3 slices from a baguette -- all this after the waitress came over to specifically ask if we wanted the bread taken off the bill because it came out so late. The food was just OK - nothing exciting, and it all came out somewhat lukewarm - nothing hot except my daughter's mac-n-cheese. The desserts were overpriced, and despite my note that we were celebrating TWO birthdays - NO candles."

"Food presentation is so nice! Lunch portions - generous.
Had to have dessert - had the ice cream popsicle fondue!
5th visit to Max Brenner (3 times in New Tork, once in Vegas and once in Boston) - always a positive experience!"

"I had read the other reviews for this place before I went and knew its reputation, so I was prepared for loud music and poor service, I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, the music was a bit too loud, but not so loud that I couldn't speak to my dinner partner. Our waiter was very courteous and spot on with his presence. I also had it in my mind that the place was huge and impersonal, but this also turned out not to be the case. It is actually comfortable, cozy and personal without being overly crowded. These all might be different on the weekend, but we went on Thursday night and had a wonderful time. The food was delicious (I had mac and cheese) and we had the dark hot chocolate with homemade whipped cream for dessert and it hit the spot."

"We were worried that the savory food would take a back seat in the kitchen, but we're pleasantly surprised--especially by the manchego corn bites and pillow panini. The theme borders on kitsch, but it keeps it fun. Great for brunch."
