Diner Reviews
  • "My wife and I were visiting Philly with my two high school aged kids. Came across Max Brenner's, and thought it would be something different. Wasn't expecting much for the food, but it turned out that the sandwiches we got were all well prepared, well presented, and frankly delicious. The milkshakes and the chocolate fondue for dessert just added to the experience. Would recommend this restaurant for people traveling with kids."

  • "We absolutely loved this place - wonderful, attentive waiter, and the food was all served in a very unique style that we all appreciated and enjoyed!"

  • "I randomly selected this restaurant for a night out with my hubby. I didn't know until we got there that they specialized in chocolate. Nonetheless, I ordered the cheesesteak waffle sandwich and it was absolutely delicious! I ended up not getting any sweets, but my cocktail was good, the service was excellent, and I will go back when I am in the mood for chocolate. "

  • "Max Brenner has a very cool vibe to it. It is very crowded so reservations are a must. They squeeze in too many tables into a tight spot in my opinion. The food was just ok. We split the dessert fondue for two. You don't get much for the money. This is a place you would go more for the feel and ambiance than the price or the food. "

  • "I dined at Max Brenner today with my family for Easter and we were all disappointed with the food. We have been here several times before and always had good experiences which made today even more of a surprise. I ordered the waffles with strawberries and they were inedible. The waffles were cold and hard, I couldn't even eat them. My sister had the egg scramble and said the tomatoes had a bad taste to them and the hash browns, which are mixed into the scramble, were not cooked through. I was disappointed that the waitress never came back to check on us, inquire how the food was, etc. I would have ordered something else. The manager did remove the dish from our bill but it was too little too late at that point. "

  • "Dessert is a MUST here! I always order off of the sweet menu and never regret it."

  • "Sat 4/12 was my first trip to Max Brenner and I thought it was great! Kind of cramp inside, but the food makes up for the room. The fish tacos were very flavorful! I would definitely go again and again. Nice place for a date night, or hanging out with a friend. I would not recommend a large party."

  • "The service was bad, there were what were referred to by the waitress "mis-prints" on the menu and the quality of the food was sub-par. The max brenner in NYC is much better. This Philly location is a take out for dessert place at best."

  • "For a day out with the kids it's a fun spot to stop off and indulge a bit. I wouldn't recommend it for an adults only outing. It's pretty loud and the food is standard. Both the food and dessert presentations, however, are fun and add to the decadence and frivolous nature of the restaurant."

  • "I thought this restaurant was just eh. The food was nothing spectacular and the drinks were only mediocre. Prices I felt were way to high for what was given. I did not think anything was really a standout except the dessert was very good. The service was very good and quick."

  • "There's no such thing as bad chocolate. But this place is extremely overpriced and not that great!"

  • "We wanted to celebrate a happy occassion and made reservations with open table. I also had flowers delivered via open tables option and called as instructed to confirm that we had reservations to accomadate a stroller and that the flowers would be delivered. The hostess staff was not accomadating in regards to the stroller and suggested that we place the car seat on the table . We asked for and got a different table that was able to accomadate the stroller. When leaving the flowers that were to be a surprise never made it to the table. When I asked about the flowers I was told " they never got here" I informed the manager that I had recieved the delivery confirmation, only then where they found and given to me."

  • "Very disappointed. Food was mediocre; chocolate desserts disappointing. The noise level was horrible - had to scream to hear each other. Service was slow. Two restrooms - long line which included employees. Would not return."

  • "Food was great, drinks were great! Tables too small. Pretty noisy on a saturday eve. But overall will go back!"

  • "All of the desserts and chocolate dishes are great. The food tastes like it was frozen and they are re-heating it, and for the price, that is very disappointing. Fun for kids though."

  • "The only negative thing I have to say is my date and I both agreed the tables were too small"

  • "GREAT choc hazelnut milkshake. wish it was 2x the size!! salted carmel hot chocolate was amazing. When you walk in all you smell is chocolate. we finished with chocolate fondue and that was great!( could have done without the choc cake pieces and more cookie pieces)."

  • "I took a friend to lunch that loves chocolate. She had the chocolate fondue with the vanilla popsicle. She really enjoyed that deserts. Our lunch was good too. The server was attentive. I will be returning."

  • "The food is indeed very good, but the house is specialist in Chocolate, so be moderate in your dinner to save some room for dessert! Try the Surprise Tiramusú!!!"

  • "The chocolate smell was to die for. I love chocolate so I didn't mind the scent and neither did my friends. I went for the Mac and Cheese. Very good, not too soggy and cheesy. Nice toasted coating for the top. I would go again."

  • "I've been to Max Brenner a handful of time in New York. We Philly for a concert and I took my friend to dinner there. The moment we were seated I could not stop grinning, the atmosphere was cozy (they put tea candles on each table) and we couldn't wait to order. Since I always talk about how much I love the place, he finally got to see what all my hubbub was about. The food was fantastic (made for superb munchies later that night) and the background music playing suited both our tastes, which was a plus. It's a little pricey, so if you're short on cash, I recommend saving a bit before deciding to go, if you plan to splurge. My friend liked Max Brenners a lot. We will definitely plan to visit again."

  • "Went with our teenagers and their friends before a show. They loved the smoothies, shakes, etc. and their sandwhiches. However, when we visited no waffles. How could they not have waffles? we were all disappointed about that. Service was fine. seating was tight. I had the B A L T. It was good."

  • "We had a group of 11 for my sisters bachelorette party. It was such a great time from the smell of chocolate walking in, to the great service and food choices. It was perfect and surprisingly quick for such a big group. Loved it and will definitely be going back!!"

  • "The portions are too big. My sandwich was good but too big. The fries were the best part. Despite being a chocolate specialty restaurant the dessert was not good. Also service wasn't great, but restaurant itself very loud. Reminded me of a Cheesecake Factory with a smaller menu to select from. Would probably be good for a tween girl's birthday. I probably won't go back unless there are kids in my party."

  • "Sam, our server -waitress was WONDERFUL. She was funny, attentive, helpful, and fun. We were a party of 6, 1 member's birthday was the evening before our visit and my wife's birthday was the day of our visit. Sam didn't skip a beat that we were loud, ready for dessert, and same gender loving women. After a day spent in Philadelphia allowing the inner children in us to play. We arrived at Max Brenner, and were seduced by the smell of chocolate. We enjoyed the quotes on the wall, napkins, and cheque. It was the best Chocolate Martini of MY LIFE. Our party enjoyed the chocolate cookie with fruit to dip, chocolate fondue, crepes, and ice cream. The ambience is sexy thanks to lighting & I appreciated the story behind the concept. Thank you!"

  • "The food and drinks were delicious, and the specials menu is definitely worth checking out (I tried the quinoa and chickpea salad atop a waffle). We didn't have room for dessert, but we might come back in the future. Max Brenner is not a place I'd find myself eating too often, but it's an experience that's definitely worth trying out."

  • "There were six of for dinner. The food was good, the deserts wonderful and we had great service. Noise level is loud here, so I would not choose this restaurant for a romantic dinner. It was perfect for our group though."

  • "We went to Max Brenner's place on the late rainy weekday afternoon. At first we spent a long time looking for the place, because even though the address says 1500 Walnut Street, the actual location is 15th street. The food was great! Dessert was amazing!!! We wish we could say the same for the service. We weren't given any utensils nor water until later after we asked the hostess and she laughed at us for wanting to eat our chicken skewers with utensils, which I find very unprofessional."

  • "I enjoyed the restaurant food. My daughter had food off the kids menu they enjoyed . They also enjoyed the various chocolate available in the front of the store. The dessert was big enough to share. My wife and I really enjoyed the restaurant and would definitely dine at this restaurant in the future."

  • "Couldn't quite decide if it was supposed to be a romantic dessert spot, or a family friendly atmosphere. I would recommend to anybody to give it a shot, great dessert selections. Couldn't decide on just one! Service could have been much better, but after all you're there for the sweets. Definitely stop by, and do not park next door, as it was 16.75. Again not a reflection of the restaurant, dessert was awesome."

  • "I took my mother here while she was visiting the area. Did not know what to expect, but I'm so glad we chose this place. The ambiance was both cozy and lively. Despite the fact that it was a Friday night, AND Valentine's day, our food still came out in good time, and our server was very attentive and sweet. I will definitely be returning for the white corn and manchego cheese balls!"

  • "While I would not consider taking my grandchildren to fast-food restaurants, the prices at Max Brenner are ridiculously expensive. A child's cup of pasta with marinara on the side is $9.00. A burger is $14.00. Two full course meals with beverage and dessert would be less. The restaurant is listed as $$. Shame on me, I had no idea $$ is a $14.00 burger."

  • "As always, Max Brenner for the win! Definitely the best sweethouse on the block, also with food that won't leave you sugar high! Go with kids, family or your sweetheart. Just make sure you bring a defibrillator in case of massive food coma!"

  • "The food was extremely greasy and unappetizing - we ordered the pannins and we unable to eat much of them. My husband ordered chicken sausage and left the whole order as it was swimming in grease. Overall the meal was heavy and unappealing and neither of us ate our whole meal. Needless to say, we will not be returning t this place."
