I LOVE the drinks at Maude's.
They take such time and care with them, and they are unique, great, and wonderful. The bar staff was solicitous and lovely, knowledgable and friendly. Cheers to them! The problems are with the waitstaff. Not only did we seem to be bothering them just by being there, they really didn't bother to check on us, refill water glasses, etc. Good thing the food was outstanding, so we had little need for them once it arrived. Overall, worth the trip if you go, sit at the bar, and order all your food and drinks there. Otherwise, skip it. There are 100 other French and French-inspired places that are more worth your time & money."

We went for our anniversary and we
loved it. Tried many menu items and server helped guide us along the way as neither of us were well versed in French food. My wife especially loved the marrow with the jam."

This place was simply amazing! If
you're celebrating a special occasion I would recommend sitting upstairs."

Dishes prepared with care and
finesse. Cocktails to die for. Excellent wine list. Lovely ambiance for a long, intimate conversation or tryst. J'aime."

Maude's has always been great,
favorites that you could always count on being fantastic (Oysters, Gnocchi, Sausage and Lentils, Roast Chicken). But wait til you try some of the new dishes on the menu - just had the Scallops and Pork Shoulder. Unbelievably good and plated beautifully."

Just moved here recently and
happened to find this on yelp. Food is amazing, highly recommend Steak Tatar."

A wonderful surprise with some of
the best food I have experienced in Chicago. You must try it!"
Dined on 6/29/2014
The food was amazing. My husband
and I are still talking about the lentils, the oysters, the tartare and even the pomme frites. And the portions are perfect sized (I was expecting less food than we got). Quality and price are totally worth the trip to this dim-lit joint. The cocktails were amazing too. We will return."

My friends treated me to Maude's
for my birthday... And it was awesome!! Everything about it was great, especially the food and cocktails! Service was great. I highly recommend!"
Dined on 6/28/2014
We enjoyed the ambiance, service
and food was tops. Loved the smashes and unique appetizers."
Dined on 6/27/2014
Food was amazing - flavors were
terrific! We had mussels, salmon tartare and fantastic drinks and chocolate mousse!"
Dined on 6/25/2014
Very authentic french fare and
excellent options for gluten free. Cassoulet was out of this world and the housemade desserts were unbelievably fresh and delicious. Cocktails were also a delight, creative and not overly sweet. Overall atmosphere was just a tiny bit stuffy but they had the goods to back it up! Slow-ish service considering the restaurant was only half full BUT very true to the European style of the restaurant and certainly very professional and courteous. Plus, to be fair, if we hadn't had someplace to be afterwards, we probably wouldn't have noticed, and to achieve the food quality we experienced does take more time in the kitchen. Will definitely eat and drink there again next time we are in the neighborhood."

I had been before and loved
Maudes, but this time the place wasn't as lively. The food was still excellent, though. Had the mussels to start and they were great. Overall had a nice time and would come back, but thought it would be busier."
Dined on 6/21/2014
The food has consistently and
always been fantastic...never a disappointment! Cassoulet is still my favorite as well as the desserts! This time we had a guest with us who had gluten free requirements and the waiter was exceptional in letting us know which items were not gluten free and even accommodated us by putting the bread crumbs on the side for the cassoulet!"

Great find on OpenTable. Great
food. Staff was friendly and seemed genuine. They were ready with sound suggestions and we're very helpful in planning our meal. Portion size is important in a 'small plates' place so the more informed we are, the better our experience. Excellent terrine. The drinks were well made, arrived in a timely manner, and tasty. Nice place for a date or a small group. Diverse crowd."

Been over 20 times at Maude's.
I've had the steak a few times this time the steak was horrible and when i told the waiter he didn't do anything about it."

The best French bistro in the
city, not at all what I was expecting. Typically when you think of French food words like "heavy, butter, creamy, salty," come to mind. Each dish had a life of its own, meaning that the main ingredient/protein was not overpowered by the butter or salt. Every dish was light, refreshing, flavorful, and succulent. The bread was spot on ! I have absolutely no complaints about the food. On the other hand, some of the service employees need an "attitude adjustment." On several occasions, the hostess that greeted was not at all welcoming. She seemed annoyed that a party of 4 showed up right at opening (empty restaurant) with no reservation. She acted as if she was doing us a "favor" by giving us a table. Really? "

Maudes offered wonderful food
along with unique and delicious drinks. Our waiter was very knowledge, helpful and friendly. I highly recommend dinner at Maudes!"

When you walk in, you may think
that Maude's is all show. It has gorgeous exposed brick walls, chandeliers, and good-looking bartenders. Once you order though, you realize that the drinks and food really are the highlight. Smashes of all kinds are highly recommended. Mussels rival the best of Southern France."
Dined on 5/29/2014
Glad you asked. I can't really
say what I was more put off by; the condescending attitude of the server when my friend did not realized that the wine she mentioned by its region was a Syrah. or that fact that I was charge $20 for 2 scallops the size of a half dollar, a supposed entree. I had been to Maudes on several occasions, all of which I enjoyed until Sunday. I don't feel any need to return. "
Dined on 5/25/2014
This place was highly recommended,
but the experience was pretty dismal. First off, they demanded credit card information during the reservation and threatened to charge it for no-show like they are some Michelin star restaurant do, that was the first turn off, but we decided to go along with that madness. Upon arrival we were seated upstairs in a very dark room, had to use our iPhone flashlights to see the menu. The food was not really exciting, foie gras pate didn't really contain a lot of foie, mostly cream, beef tartar was salted to the point where salt grains were crunching in my mouth plus it was too oily. The only bright spot was roasted chicken soft and moist, but too it had too much salt. Service was OK."

My grandmother's 80th birthday. We
had a perfect table up front (accessable) the Lights were low and chandeliers twinkling... truly a magical night! We started with The Maude's tower, a dedcadent melange of crab, lobster, oysters, and the biggest Shrimp you have ever seen! All incredibly fresh and delicious. My guests were blown Away by the luxury at this point, but we forged on with a roast chicken, maude's Steak, diver scallops, and a smattering of veggies (you must have the asparagus!) Each bite was better than the last! We finished with a single chocolate mousse with A candle for gram of course! A large spoonful of this delisiousness will satisfy. I Want the world to know about Maude's !"

Sat upstairs. It was a quiet and
romantic setting. Downstairs is more of a bar/party scene. Service was great. Food was excellent. Had a cured salmon appetizer special, escargot, ricotta gnocchi, and the chocolate mousse. Would love to eat here again next time I get back to Chicago. "
Dined on 5/19/2014
Food: good, but surprisingly not
exceptional given the hype. The small plates we ordered were served with large slices of (admittedly really good) toast, which are easy to fill up on, and sort of mask what are otherwise smallish portions. However, bone marrow and foie were excellent. So-so on salmon tartare. Only two desserts. Great atmosphere. Darker without being romantic, great noise/music level, and the decor is pretty chic/anti-hipster. Best aspect: corkage. Share one glass from your bottle with another table. How fun is that? Plus I think the servers sort of keep track of who's sharing, and then you end up getting to try something good, too. Pro-tip: Tends to have open tables, but no openings on Open Table, later at night."

Just went to Maude's on Saturday.
The food exceeded my already high expectations! We got oysters, beef tartar, pork shoulder, chicken liver mousse and a cheesy fondue thing. Everything was good but the tartar and the pork shoulder were off the charts fantastic! The ambiance is very romantic - dark and lots of low lighting. The noise level was also good - not too quiet but not too loud either, just right. Our waiter was a little on the snobby side but he still did his job quite nicely. We had a bottle of wine and it was being cooled somewhere not close to our table and he was very good at watching our glasses and filling us up if we got low. I would definitely come back here!"
Dined on 5/17/2014
Loved the food, especially the
turrine and pork shoulder. Found out that what we ordered was kind of bread heavy (both the pate and turrine were served with tons of bread.) at least the bread was delicious. Loved the decor and ambience. Service was friendly just seemed a touch flighty. Forgot my friend's drink; served the drink to the wrong person, etc. Overall great experience."

You'd never know it from the
name, but we go for the food as well as the liquor! Buy one of each of the many raw oysters on offer to create a tasting 'flight' ;)"

What a fabulous find Our food was
excellent and a good value. The atmosphere was warm and romantic. The drink menu was innovative. "

This spot is a must-- just the
menu is enough to make you cry. The food execution is spectacular, the drink list is extraordinarily spot-on with lovely liquor pairings, and the wait staff is phenomenal. You will not be disappointed. You definitely get your moneys worth as well, plenty of food to share with just a couple plates and a couple drinks. Beautiful french inspired food with thoughtful respect for aroma, flavor, texture, and emotional response to the dishes--what a joy to come to this restaurant! If you are on the fence of where to eat tonight-- I will make the decision for you-- Eat at Maude's Liquor Bar!"

We enjoyed having the option of
classic or contemporary French foods. The steak tartare was fabulous. The ricotta gnocchi has larger pieces than what one normally sees, and was tender as could be. We were there on a Sunday night, so it was probably much mellower than it would be on a Friday or Saturday. "
Dined on 5/11/2014
Every dish done to perfection.
Simply delicious. Salmon was perfectly cooked and so flavorful. Cauliflower gratin was just the right about of creamy without being over the top. Classic Lyonnnaise Salad was wonderfu ~ the pork belly perfectly flavored and cooked. And the creme brule was possibly the best we've had ~ the top tasted like a perfectly roasted marshmallow."

Love Maude's! But, they're always
"out" of their main dishes! Why oh why! Still love it though..."
Dined on 5/8/2014
The service was exceptional and
admirably patient with our taking our time to make selections. The atmosphere had a "far away exotic place" feel, as if in the height of 1920's plush ambience, and we appreciated the relative quiet as well. The upstairs section may seem too dark at first, but your eyes will adjust to the rich colors, textures and ornamental lighting. The roast chicken, pork shoulder and brazed lentils were flavorful and succulent, and of handsomely sharable portions. While we didn't focus much on wine list, the recommendation we received was expertly matched to our selections and very satisfying. If you like chocolate mousse, Maude's is hard to beat."
Dined on 5/8/2014
Love the upstairs section. Food
was delicious. Salmon tartare and lyonnaise salad were amazing. "

Third visit to Maude's. Was as
great as ever. Fun scene. Perfect vintage decor. Roast chicken is among the best we've ever had--moist, perfectly seasoned. Share it and add a few delicious sides (roasted veg). Start w seafood tower. Come early to enjoy artful cocktails at the beautiful bar. Relax and pretend you are in Paris!"

What a fabulous find in Chicago
West Loop. I am not in town very often but always look forward to dining my way around town. French County cooking, amazing oysters and please don't get me started about their cassoulet, cooked traditionally with pork belly, sausage, duck confit and white beans. Definitely try the fondue, all the best of parts of onion soup without the broth, creamy cheese over slow cooked onions with amazing crusty bread, heaven. I know when I am back in Chicago Maude's will be on the top of my list."
Dined on 4/24/2014
Great food, ambiance and drinks.
Best steak ever. Can't wait to go back!!"
Dined on 4/26/2014
Dark, noisy cool place to hide out
and eat and drink. Food tends to be very bread-centric, but the onion fondue is delish (although it has been better). The smoked salmon was heavy on bread and extras and a bit light on salmon, which should have been more forefront. The lyonnaise salad also, was a bit off balance- too much pork belly. The salmon was a good serviceable dish. A solid B. Think I have liked it more on past visits- hope they aren't slipping with all the good reviews and business. Very likable, knowledgeable wait staff."

Reservation was on time - seated
immediately. Staff was excellent. Food was amazing. Pacing was done perfectly to get us to the Hawks game. Elegant yet casual. A real pleasing experience. "

We've been to Maude's twice and
both times had excellent meals. "
