Breakfast buffet was included with our hotel room. There was a wide variety of food choices including omelets made to order. Everything was hot and nicely displayed. It was very crowded and we were glad to have made a reservation.

Went with my wife and brother. Was able to try Appetizers: Soup of the day (seafood chowder) and Cajun shrimp - both were delicious Mains: Chicken escalopes and gnocchi - very good. Desserts: Vanilla crème brulee very good and rhubarb pavlova - wasn't sure what it was. I would have gotten something sweet had I known it was a tangy meringue type of dish. Overall an excellent meal and I wouldn't mind going back again. As other diners have noted the décor is not really very nice but the food made up for it.

We have avoided hotel food because my other half was scared by one too dishes came out from hotel kitchens during banquets and weddings. However, Matisse is a redemption! From the ingredients to the cooking to the plating all were well planned and well executed. The pickerel was cooked perfectly moist. If it came with a crisped skin, it would have been a five star. The chicken was flavourful and the new potatoes were fresh gems. Desserts were truly delightful too. Our waiter was professional as well as friendly. He set the tone for the really enjoyable meal. The dinning room is warm and spacious. The colorful décor complement Matisse's paintings on the wall without being overwhelming. This place is definitely worth a visit when in Toronto.

I had a great experience has when I mentioned to the waitress that ka cannot eat green beans she immediately removed the plate and made a new batch. When it came all the foods taste fabulous, you can tell that they took their time. I'm very please for listening to my request. It was noisy because of the FIFA game and it did not bothered us as we appreciate the chance to see the game as well.

usually enjoy Matisee but not this time- this was a business lunch - found the noise level really high making conversation diffficult. There were not that many tables full and yet the lunch took a very long time - and the waiters were not attentive during our wait. I was embarrassed by this in front of my clients.

I booked a reservation for Matisse for Mother's Day Brunch. It was advertised like so: "Treat mom to a delicious family-style brunch in Matisse and let our award winning chefs take care of the details. $35 per person (includes mimosa, coffee/tea)". When we got there, we realized there was no brunch. It was a regular hotel buffet breakfast. Very regular. Nothing special at all. The cost was $24 per adult which is their regular breakfast cost. So I knew then that there was no Mother's Day Brunch. I had booked this to be something special for Mother's Day, when I could have gone to Eggspectations instead! Extremely Disappointing!

Lunch time at Yonge and Bloor can be hectic, rushed and windy! Not so at Mamtisse. The service was friendly, the atmosphere quiet and the food was very nice. The Friday fish and chips were exceptional! A perfect place to be able to have a quiet conversation over lunch.

Both my guests had pickerel dish -- tasted as if it had been marinated a week in salty brine. This dish exceeded their annual quota of salt. The entire fish was over salted. My flat iron steak was excellent. The appetizers and deserts were very tasty. Our servers were going through the motions but had no interest in their patrons.

I had dinner here through Winterlicious and I have to say I couldn't be happier I chose this restaurant to go to. Although it would have been nice if the restaurant had more seating, the ambiance was very relaxed and enjoyable. Even though our table was small it still felt like we had more than enough room. The service was very good and each of our courses came in perfecting timing. The food was absolutely fantastic!! I had the Lentil entry and I couldn't get enough of it, I never imagined lentils could taste so good and be seasoned so perfectly. Just amazing!

    OpenTable Diner Since 2014
    Dined on 2/1/2014
Due to 'weather' we opted to have dinner in the hotel where we were staying, and were very pleasantly surprised by the Matisse. They offered a prix fixe Winterlicious menu that was varied and reasonable, and the full menu was interesting and diverse. The wine list hit all the big reds and the cocktail menu was quite extensive too. Bloody caesars were excellent as was the food, which was hot and savoury with great presentation. The only thing that would have improved the experience was slightly more attentive service-- to clear glasses and appetizer plates in a more timely fashion, and we had to flag down our waiter for the bill. We would definitely go back.

The food was quite good. The service was unobtrusive; though it was strange to see a server wearing a union local button. The room is a bit of a cave, though the Matisse prints make the best of a bad situation. I understand that breakfast patrons might want a television showing CNN, but for a business lunch, the screen felt declasse/boorish.

I recently went to Matisse for my birthday, as well as to take part in Summerlicious and must say that for my 1st visit I was greatly impressed....the entire experience was amazing!!! From the very courteous host(our server) to the timely manner in which our meals were brought to us, to the very savoury food!!!! Everything was so delicious and well presented. We were all so comfortable we didn't want to leave lol. We have vowed to go back to this great gem of a restaurant, both as a group(bringing more people) and as individuals perhaps for a quick lunch, or even on dates. A major Thank You to Matisse & the host for a marvellous Birthday dinner/Summerlicious experience :-) See you soon, sincerely Diana B

    OpenTable Diner Since 2013

Staff friendly, but 35 minutes for first course to arrive after ordering is too long, especially at lunch time. Second course arrived 20 minutes after 1st cleared but dessert arrived immediately after main cleared. Group at 2 tables for baby shower/summerlicious. Second table with guest of honour (clearly marked by balloons) was served 15 minutes after 1st table. One hour and 45 minutes is far too slow for a lunch. Food was very good but had to be eaten very quickly.. Would consider returning but would advise staff of any time constraints.

The food was decent however the service was horrible. The following are the reasons for what I say for the service: 1) The bread did not come out until about 5 minutes before the entree. This was about 30 minute into the meal. 2) The waitress did not give us any plates to eat the bread. We had to grab it from another table. 3) The waitress did not genuinely care about us. She would ask us a question and start walking away before we have a chance to answer the question fully. 4) There were not enough waitress for such a big place.
