The staff was really friendly and attentive. I had the chicken frites dish, which was excellent. My husband and son had the gnocchi, which was just okay. The texture was a little pasty and it just didn't have that much flavor. The fries were very tasty. The soup of the day was a bit too salty. But they brought out a chocolate terrine for my son's birthday, with lemon ice cream, which was excellent. Good atmosphere, comfortable seating, good ambiance. I would go back next time I'm in Boulder!

Mateo became my boyfriend's favorite French restaurant after our visit, and he's quite the connoisseur of French cuisine! The ambiance was quite pleasant - laid back house and techno music that was not too loud - and our waiter was extraordinary. He spoke with my boyfriend at length about the wine selection (which is very diverse!) and chatted with both of us each time he came around to our table, and he always appeared at just the right time. Our meals were superb, the food delicious and portioned just right, and dessert was a perfect finisher. Overall, we were extremely impressed with our first visit to Mateo, and we will definitely be returning in the future.

Menu looks a little sparse, but the specials were fantastic. My wife ordered the wine, but the sommelier went through the ritual with me. We always think that's pretty bad form. The meal service was excellent though.

I've always loved the ambience at Mateo and engaged waitstaff. We've often sat at the bar to enjoy a meal but this night we sat at a romantic table for two for a date long overdue. We started with a couple of appetizers and a round of drinks - the Fefe is my new favorite cocktail. I then moved on to a salad which combined fresh greens with frisee, apples, and hazlnuts combining great flavors. My husband loved his lamb shank and I the special. My first few bites were quite salty but the woman attending to us immediately offered to bring me a new one. The second one was just perfect and I was really grateful for the quick attention to ensure my experience was positive and that I loved my meal. I loved my meal. Was a great date indeed!
