A word from Matchbox Palm Springs
Voted “Best Pizza in the Desert” 4 years running,
What makes a great pizza? It starts with a great oven! Ours is an authentic wood- fired masonry oven where the fire has burned constantly since the day we opened. Modern gas and electric ovens cannot produce the intense heat needed - over 700 degrees - to achieve the crispy, smoky crust that our oven provides. With dough made fresh daily in-house, our goal is to make the best pizza in the desert!
In the mood for something a little fancier? Our famous mini-burgers, Pan seared atlantic salmon, 16 oz grilled Rib Eye steak or matchbox fish and chips? Our chef's dishes are simply and classically prepared! You’ll find our appetizers and entrees well seasoned & hearty, never bland. The challenge? Build an interesting restaurant in an expansive second floor space that includes outdoor seating in historic Downtown Palm Springs! The matchbox experience takes place in an engaging atmosphere designed & custom-built.

We live in Rancho Mirage and took
out of town guests to Palm Springs on a Thursday evening to visit the street fair. I wanted someplace near by and found Matchbox on Open Table. It was a find!! It's location is right in the center of things and it's fun. But be sure to have a reservation - especially on a Thursday. I'd certainly visit again."

We love matchbox! Excellent pizza.
Awesome views if you can score a balcony table. Excellent drinks. And the strawberry creme pie is worth the trip alone!"

Sat out on a balcony seat and just
relaxed and dined... and people watched! Great evening! Enjoyed every appetizer we tried! But have to say the Ahi Tuna Tempura roll is an absolute must!! Outstanding!"

For a romantic spot, try the
balcony overlooking Palm Springs' center. Great bruschetta during happy hour and giant onion rings with a terrific steak sandwich."
Dined on 2/26/2014
Service was poor - we had to ask 4
times before they lit the outdoor heaters. Bread came after our main course was served. We waited 20 minutes before we saw a waiter. They complained they were short of staff, but it was a Sunday night in season???"
Dined on 2/23/2014
Great pizza! Lots of kids. Because
I checked the "first time eating here" box we were given a bad table. When I asked for a better table we were told they are reserved for more frequent diners and since this was are first time we could not change tables. Stupid management."
Dined on 2/15/2014
Great selection of food,
sandwiches and pizzas. The sliders were enjoyed by all. Specialty cocktails are great; however, service was lackluster. Would return as we enjoyed the food and hope the service will be more attentive."
Dined on 2/15/2014
I have been twice, first time
great service pleasant server and staff. Last visit, server was flustered, short tempered and forgetful. The place was very busy but not an excuse! Still we enjoyed our food, was excellent! We just kind of laughed to see what he would do next...."
Dined on 2/13/2014
The garlic, arugula and fig pizza
was very tasty with a nice thin crust."
Dined on 2/9/2014
2 of my party shared a Pizza which
was excellent. I had the salmon which was also excellent. Even though I made a reservation on Tuesday there was a question if they had a table for us. Busy place. I will definitely go again."
Dined on 2/1/2014
Perfect for semi-relaxed but with
friendly crowd...open dining areas of chose...private balcony (limited in peak hours)...spacious dining room with open air doors windows...bar area has high top table seating and fire line single bar type seating...good place to bring and hang with friends and shoot the breeze...if you will... Great Wood fired pizza...!"

We were running late for the show
at the Palm Springs Follies across the street and needed quick service. Our waitress was amazing...she got food to us in very quick time and was super attentive to our needs. We shared beef sliders, charcuterie platter and pizza. Everything was excellent . We will definitely go back when we have more time to enjoy the atmosphere, good and great service."

Booked this place for a happy hour
with some co-workers. We arrived early (4pm), there was 1 other couple there with drinks- NOT busy. We also showed up amongst another couple. Both my party and the other couple decided to seat ourselves. At least 5 minutes later, a bus boy came by with water. A waitress came to bring food to the couple that was already there, passed both my party and the other couple, again, didn't say a word. I should also mention 2 bartenders and 2 staff were leisurely chatting by the bar, still, no service. Finally, the other couple yelled to get service, which was met with attitude. Despite the fact the couple was sitting right next to us, waiter again passed without taking out order. We walked. Never again, stay away."

We enjoyed Matchbox because the
menu is varied enough for hearty and light appetites, vegetarians and non-vegetarians. The crab soup is delicious as was the beet salad and the 4 cheese pizza. Good beer and wine selections, too. Our waiter was terrific; attentive, cheerful, welcoming."
Dined on 1/19/2014
A pleasant surprise. Very good
food and service. Nice space. Good drinks. Flat iron steak sandwich was tender and flavorful. A good restaurant to try in the heart of Palm Springs."
Dined on 1/19/2014
If you want a quiet place for
dinner this is not it; lots of loud and/or crying kids. Service was very rushed; we had just rec'd a cocktail and the waiter was impatient for our food order. My husband had the crab soup which was very good, and the fig & prosciutto pizza which was also good. I had the ribeye, about 1/3 was gristle the rest of the food was mediocre. Food came very quickly, so not the place if you want to relax and enjoy dinner. The place was far from full, so don't know what the rush was all about! Wine list is so-so; we took our own bottle;corkage is only $15 but the waiter tried to get us to sign up for a membership which would waive future corkage fees. We did not sign up as there is a very slim chance we'd ever go back."

The experience was wonderful the
evening we visited Match Box. Our server Henry was attentive, friendly & knowledgeable ~ an over all great server. The food was really good & the prices can't be beat during happy hour. A nice variety to choose from both the wine & food menus."

Each time myself and family visit
Palm Springs we make sure we save time to visit Matchbox. The service is wonderful and they tried very hard to accommodate to your reservation, I was surprised when I asked for a possible outside seating it was offered to us. Way to go!. Keep up the good work."

Matchbox is one of my favorite
spots for a nice relaxed delicious meal… I recommend it to all my clients and their guests especially for a great spot on Thursday evenings to overlook the street fair. If you are looking for awesome Pizzas and salads with a great wine list and full bar this will become one of your favorites as well!"
Dined on 12/31/2013
Without a doubt, Matchbox has the
BEST "Sliders" of any restaurant I've ever been to! The restaurant itself was very busy (it was the holidays) and there were way more noisy kids in the restaurant than I remember seeing in the past - certainly no fault of the restaurant, and maybe it was because it was the holiday season."
Dined on 12/27/2013
One of my favorite places to eat
in Palm Springs. Be sure to order the Beet Salad!"
Dined on 12/21/2013
The food was great! Unfortunately,
service was lacking. It was difficult to get the waiter's attention. We had a hard time getting water throughout our visit."

The way they treated me that night
for my birthday, I will always go back for more."
Dined on 12/6/2013
We ordered 3 pizzas . 1 was made
wrong, 1 was burnt on the side and was not eatable, the other was good . Have eaten there a lot and this is the first time we have had this trouble.Hope it is the last."
Dined on 11/24/2013
The food was very good as usual.
The pizza was excellent"

My husband and I rarely get an
opportunity to get away and are so grateful that we were able to go to Matchbox for his birthday:) The food, prices, service and ambiance is excellent! We enjoyed the lights below from a beautiful patio seat and loved the street fair gala. Have highly recommended Matchbox to our friends! Overall, an A plus!:) ~Happy Zoni's"

We get together so infrequently,
so we have a lot to talk about. After drinks, the food came and we were all impressed with presentation and quality. Our initial plan was to have a bite and go to the Street Fair but the company, conversation, and atmosphere were so great that we sat and talked way longer that we had planned. Thank goodness it was not a busy night for the restaurant. We were not rushed or bothered in any way - but left alone to enjoy the evening. I'm sure all walked away with a very positive impression."
Dined on 11/21/2013
Have eaten at Matchbox on many
occasions and the service was not up to par this time. We were a group of four and ordered our favorite white prosciutto pizza and salads. Our server delivered the wrong pizza and when questioned just said she must have put it in wrong. The extended wait for our food was blamed upon the salads taking so long to prepare. We had to physically hunt her down to get our check and she then tried to charge my card without letting me see the bill. We will return in the hopes that this was an isolated experience."
Dined on 11/14/2013
Great food... great service. It's
always on our list of places to eat when visiting Palm Springs. The crab cake sandwich does not disappoint, and the small pizza is the just right amount for one person. Don't even think about dinner on the weekends without a reservation."
Dined on 11/9/2013
We shared the Q Special with
chicken, roasted peppers and portobello mushrooms. DELICIOUS!!"
Dined on 11/2/2013
Great pizzas and good service
makes this a perfect spot."
Dined on 10/27/2013
We were here on a conference and
chose it based on some local reviews. We arrived and were put off by the run down look of the outdoor bar, but the service and drinks were fine. When we were taken inside for our meal, the ambiance was much better. The food was very good: everyone at the table, vegetarians, ominivores, and even a restaurant professional enjoyed the pizzas and salads. The desserts were good; the mudpie better than the lemon tart. The noise level allowed our table of six to hear and speak to each other. The service was attentive and professional."
Dined on 10/26/2013
The restaurant is in the heart of
Palm Springs so it can be a bit touristy, but at least you're in the middle of all the action. We went on a busy Friday night, so while the waitress was friendly enough the service was on the slow side. We weren't in any big rush, so we didn't mind too much. The food itself was just okay. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't memorable either. I will say the shrimp & grits from the appetizer menu was delicious. Kinda wish it was my entree and not just an appetizer."
Dined on 10/12/2013
Great food, excellent and
attentive service. Portions are substantial so don't over order. You will want to eat everything."
Dined on 10/12/2013
On our recent visit to Palm
Springs, we visited Matchbox. We sat at a table on the outdoor balcony. A musician was in the street right below us and provided wonderful music. The food was excellent at a very reasonable price. Would definitely return on our next visit."
Dined on 10/3/2013
This was a gem, recommended to us
by a local person. We sat in a private balcony overlooking Palm Canyon Drive and watched the vendors set up for the regular Thursday night festival. When the festival started, this was the perfect vantage point for people watching. Meanwhile, the cocktails and wine list were great. We took full advantage of happy hour. Two appetizers were noteworthy: shrimp wrapped in bacon and served on cheese grits, and a melted mozzarella-bruchetta ball with spicy tomato sauce. Half price fire roasted pizza (with fig and prosciutto) got a rave review from our guest. Wife and I had big salads, hers was topped with scallops and mine was topped with salmon. Definitely a great spot."

As always, we loved this
restaurant ever since it was introduced to us by our old friends. Highly recommended."
Dined on 9/29/2013
Good food along with great
service. Nice ambiance."
Dined on 9/26/2013
Welp, we took a gamble on a
restaurant in the heart of downtown Palm Springs and we lost. The food was subpar, the service was slow, and the ambience felt contrived and manufactured. We each had a salad and split the roasted tomato and mozzarella pizza, the crust of which was tasteless and unappealing. I drank a Mango Mango cocktail as recommended by our server. Personally, I hold Palm Springs to the highest standards in cocktails as I have had many a delicious drink poolside, and this one did not make the grade. Boring. Tasted like pineapple juice with a shot of vodka slapped on top. We did enjoy sitting on the balcony overlooking Palm Canyon Drive but that was about it. Don't think they'll be a next time for us at Matchbox."
Dined on 9/15/2013
Lov the place, especially watching
the 4th of July fireworks from the balcony tables this year. And also sitting at the fire pit is amazing on cool fall and winter evenings."
