Spacious and always good food.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMLunch was great. Service wasLunch was great. Service was terrific!! Outdoor seating super comfortable but they'll need to shade it soon because it was warm there even on a cool day.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMI love everything about theI love everything about the Matchbox on 14th! Thank you!5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome PizzaTheir smokey veggie pizza was incredible and the wine selection was decent. The building's history is very interesting--used to be a bowling alley (and several other cool things I can't remember right now)!5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMLove the neighborhood setting,Love the neighborhood setting, the sliders and salad were an excellent lunch combination. The build out of the restaurant is always a great signature of the Matchbox group !!4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMSome of the best pizza anywhereIn a building shaped like a matchbox, some of the best pizza you'll get anywhere. Vibrant, fun place near China Town.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a large group dinnerWe had a large group dinner with 2 kids and a infant. Matchbox did a great job of accommodating us. We had a great meal and excellent service!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMCan't wait to return!I've been to Matchbox twice with my husband. First time sat in front of the wood-burning fireplace and watched them make pizzas. We ordered a sesame-crusted tuna salad and a calamari salad. Both were incredibly tasty and flavorful without hot spices. Next time we split a prosciutto and a black fig pizza and, again, the tuna salad. The pizza combination was intriguing and great! And the tuna salad was as good as remembered. Plus, the prices are reasonable. Can't wait to go back!!!4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMMy friend and I first visitedMy friend and I first visited Matchbox a little over a month ago. I had passed it repeatedly and it looked interesting, so we decided to give it a try. We were glad we did! We tried to visit again two weeks ago, but without a reservation, the wait was ridiculous. My friend and I took that as a good sign. I made reservations this time. The food was excellent, the service superb, and we both enjoyed the ambience. I’d recommend Matchbox to anyone.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMSo much more spacious thanSo much more spacious than Chinatown location!! Much more family friendly vibe here. Our server was good. Had a great attitude and sense of humor. Food was consistently tasty. Inour group, kids and adults alike enjoyed the evening. Recommend making reservations as wait times are long otherwise.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, although mostlyGreat food, although mostly staple fare with a flare. Bloody Mary was a bit watery, service was a bit slow, but all in all we had a great time!4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMreally nice place. Great space, really nice place. Great space, friendly service, pizza was excellent. I will be back4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMSatisfied our pizza cravingsWe were in the mood for some pizza Tuesday night, and headed to our closest purveyor of quality pies -- Matchbox. The pizza is not the best in town, nor is it an approximation of what one would get in Naples or New York. Still, the thin, crisp crust and the tangy toppings were quite satisfying. And, yet again, I felt compelled to order a dessert -- the brownie sundae. This is always both very well prepared and extremely caloric. I have yet to have a meal at Matchbox that was not both enjoyable and worthy of reprimand from my cardiologist.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome addition to 14th Street venAlthough the noisy Gen Ys next to us caused us to ask to be reseated, once we were ensconced upstairs, the friendly, attentive service, well-priced and unusual wine selection, and designer drinks were outstanding4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our first time atThis was our first time at the new Matchbox. They have done an incredible job of restoration to the building, which is now just gorgeous. Our pizzas were delicious, but we weren't impressed by the list of desserts. We'll certainly return for the pizza!3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMNot knowing the D.C area,Not knowing the D.C area, I used the OT app and found this great place. Great Contemporary selections with a emphasis on thin crust pizzas in a high end setting. We loved the food and service and will come back the next time.3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was very lovely boy firstIt was very lovely boy first time there and I sure will become a regular. I want to book the floating Booth next time.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMit was my 3rd time diningit was my 3rd time dining at this location. always a great time! great food! great service!!!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThree enjoyable meals in 3 monthsIf asked to list the top restaurants within a 10-minute walk from my house, I doubt I would mention Matchbox prominently. Yet I now have had three meals there in three months and enjoyed every one of them. The food I had was not ambitious -- I again ordered the sliders, and then shared a pizza and an apple crisp dessert with my spouse. Nevertheless, each of the dishes was very well prepared, and the pizza in particular featured an otimally crisp crust and a nice tangy topping. Servers were again well-trained and helpful. This was our first visit to this Matchbox during a peak dining period. The noise level was more than moderate, but not uncomfortable; conversation was not difficult.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways enjoy the shrimp andAlways enjoy the shrimp and grits. Not a grits fan but this is delicious. Your fruit dessert pizza wasn't on the menu anymore, but the waiter placed a request and we got it.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMHighly recommended. LoveHighly recommended. Love the pizzas and the Matchbox chopped salad (with pasta ringlets). Flavored martinis are also large and delicious. Service was nothing short of outstanding!3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMSo Glad We Have New Matchbox!I was coming from a race and meeting a large group of friends for brunch to celebrate. Due to poor race logistics, it took me over an hour to get to the restuarant and was very late for the reservation. Matchbox allowed my friends to hold the table and then provided excellent service. The brunch food was fantastic - especially the crab benedict - and we had a great time! Will be recommending!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was delicious. PortionsFood was delicious. Portions substantial. Our server was great. We would definitely go back.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMI've been to this restaurantI've been to this restaurant with family and with a partner.... I have also been to this restaurant with the "girls" and each and everytime I was never disppointed. This time in particular I came with my significant other and from sitting at the bar to dining in the restaurant I enjoyed everything, the service, the food, the ambience, even the background music...I will be back3/10/2013 12:00:00 AMlove this place! have beenlove this place! have been to their other locations and this one is the best. great food and great service!!!2/23/2013 12:00:00 AMFamiliar Food That's Fun to EatMatchbox is less a dining destination than an extremely well-executed business concept. Start with menu items familiar to most diners -- burgers, pizza, fried foods, desserts. Execute carefully so that the food is prepared properly and evokes familiar memories. Add a striking restoration of a Victorian-era building. Mix in upbeat, helpful servers. In the background play '80s and '90s rock to which the target diner demographic has memorized the lyrics. The yield: customer satisfaction. The cocktail, burger, onion rings, and brownie sundae I had for a holiday brunch were hardly noteworthy from a culinary standpoint, nor were they necessarily the best in category. But they were most decidedly fun to eat, and made for a satisfying meal.2/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
