Diner Reviews
  • "After many years of success, the chef has changed a few items and the menu. Old favorites are ofter still offered, and overall, change will end up being good. This is a very good restaurant, with a good kitchen and an always pleasant and tasteful meal. Wine is 50% price on Sundays, so it is a great night to take your loved one out."

  • "We used to LOVE Match. This was our first trip to the "new" Match. I don't really see the improvement in decor or the menu. The staff remains the same and excellent. Some of the old staples are there and good, but the new stuff...not so much. I had the swordfish which the waiter recommended. It was a very large portion of mostly dry fish covered in a brown sauce that didn't make sense and over a grain that was just ok. The risotto was huge and mostly bland. Not very inventive. Dessert was just ok. The menu was impossible to read with appetizers and main courses grouped together in some meaningless way. Really? Hopefully they will pick it back up to the level that we were used to."

  • "Match was always the most upscale restaurant in Sono with its inventive menu and wood burning fish, meats and pizza. Some of the most creative cocktails stirred rather than shaken and the best charred octopus in Fairfield County. Chef Owner Matt Storch gets it right with a change in ambience, color and a fresh, new menu like no one else has in the area. Get the Wood Roasted Red Snapper for Two...You have to filet it yourself, but it's so worth it---comes with sticky rise and stir fry bok choy--Service is superb and not rushed--not even on a Saturday night. Love the changes to the menu--something for every palate. Definite must try!"

  • "Due to a recently very pared down menu we were very disappointed. The menu is now very similar to The Chelsea and if we wanted that type of bar food we would have gone to The Chelsea. We were craving some of Matt's amazing dishes but instead got pizza, burgers and salad and a very few of the favorites from the old menu."

  • "Superb choice for my birthday dinner. Ticked all my boxes with succulent foie gras, followed by risotto and shaved truffles. Washed down by a pinot of excellent character. Attentive manager made for a very friendly atmosphere."

  • "I have never - and I do mean never - been disappointed with my experience at Match. It is deservedly rated as among the very top restaurants in Connecticut. Great food and great service."

  • "Match is an amazing restaurant. It will be closing soon to remodeling but it was well worth our visit! The carpetbaggers are the best and they have a half price bottle wine deal on Sundays and Mondays. The chef will be owning the new Match which will be open in about a month or so."

  • "Came to eat the "Thursday night burger" again before Match closes on March 1 for a couple of months for renovations; it was as good as we remembered it, the meat now supplied by Saugatuck Butchery; onions, bacon, cheese with a great char on the outside, and excellent fries to go along with it. We're looking forward to coming back when it reopens, in the meantime, get there while you can."

  • "We've been dining at Match for years and Chef Storch and Team continue to deliver amazing food, service, and warmth. Best in Sono and a best in the tri-state. (New Yorkers, Match is a few blocks from the MetroNorth South Norwalk Station; you'll be glad you took the trip.)"

  • "Really that is all I can say. The food is absolutely amazing. The chef is phenomenal. Great thing about going on a Sunday or Monday is that the wine list is 50% off."

  • "Priced right, so we can dine their often, this is our "go to" whenever I don't feel like cooking. Consistently good food and service. We highly recommend you try the carpet baggers, pizzas and the Match Burger, but the entrees are all delicious and full of flavor."

  • "For the travel piece on South Norwalk, and the recommendation to eat @ Match. My early party of four on a snowy Saturday nite had an excellent experience from beginning to end. Not one single misstep, which I guess shoud be expected, as this place, we learned, has been wow-ing them on the main drag here for 14 years. The facility has held up well, the staff is well-seasoned and solicitous, and the menu clearly says "2014." 3 courses with wine was only about $60 p.p. and well worth it. I'm in the area often, and will definitely go back."

  • "Staff was very flexible, we had requested oysters on the half shell - and they accomodated mixing in with an on the menu appetizer - not many places would do that!"
    Dined on 1/24/2014
  • "This is an excellent restaurant. One of the best in the state. Try the carpet Baggers and the Braised Short Ribs"
    Dined on 1/24/2014
  • "Match has a great rating, but the chef overreaches with his odd combinations of foods. For example, combining fried oysters with steak tartare loses the freshness of the oysters and the complexity of steak tartare. And adding italian hot peppers in vinegar instead of chilis or blackening spice to "shrimp and grits" is awkward and heavy handed. It's a nice place to hang out, but the food lacks sophistication or elegance."

  • "Once again we had the good fortune of spending our New Year's Eve dinner with Chef Matt and the crew at Match in SONO. Delectable duck and pork buns smothered in Hoisan sauce started our meal. The duck was sublime and sauced perfectly! We could have eaten 4 more of them! The filet mignon special WAS special -- a 7 oz filet grilled to mouthwatering perfection topping a mashed potato bed, with a broccoli-beet side dish that defies description (it was THAT good) and cippolini onions done just right. The pasta with squash was sweet and creamy and off-set the beef entrée well. Dessert featured homemade chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter ice cream, and carmelized banana. Exquisite espresso topped it all off. Magnificent!"

  • "We went to Match on Saturday night for a special night out with another couple who are good friends of ours. They had never been to Match before and were really excited to go after hearing us talk about it. And Match never disappoints. The food, the ambiance, and the service were all fantastic. It was an expensive night, but totally worth it! They loved it as much as we did :) We're also taking another big group of 10 there in two Saturdays - 1/4/14 - and we're already counting down the days!"

  • "Match is simply "THE BEST". We reserved our table on "Open Table" and requested a special seating for a birthday/anniversary celebration. Not only did we get "our table" in the window but we had our favorite waiter PETER!. The food was superb, the dining experience was superb and the service was second-to-none! We received great recommendations, food arrived quickly and our table was cleared quickly. We never felt rushed and felt like we were important to Match. In short the whole dining experience was a pleasure. We have dined at many restaurants across the world - Peter and Match are the perfect combination!!"

  • "Match has consistently delivered on a creative and delicious menu of eclectic fusions of flavors. Chef Matt Storch is as much a master in the kitchen as he is friendly and gracious to his dinner guests! The wait staff is friendly and enhances the total experience with their friendly demeanor . One of our favorite restaurants to dine."

  • "I just weny here for my wife's birthday and they did s terrific job. The manager gave us a lot of attention, service was fantastic, food was amazing, and they were very good on the details from my specifics in the directions I added in on OpenTable about her being a vegetarian, that it was her birthday and what her name was (which they wrote in chocolate on the surprise desert at the end). They really made us feel special. Also, so many great food options, we are going back to try more of the food."

  • "Our west coast friends are world travellers who love to experience the "local scene" wherever they go. We requested a table by the window for our group of 5 and received one tended by an outstanding waiter. The food was wonderful and the service exceptional. It was a "matchless" evening."

  • "I will go to Match every week! Everyone is so nice and the food is fabulous. The fois gras was fantastic--with two kinds and the seared tuna was done just right. I will recommend this to everyone I know and become a regular!"

  • "Been going for years. Truly one of the best CT dining spots. Can always count on flawless service and an amazing meal. The menu changes often so it is always a pleasant surprise to see what is for dinner (though my husband has happily ordered the same dish each and every time for years). In the ever changing Fairfield County dining scene it is nice to know where to go and not be disappointed/surprised."

  • "My wife and I had a great meal. The carpet backers app we had was to die for. Fried oysters with beef tartar. Yum. I had the lobster with fettuccine and my wife had the special halibut dish called peanut butter and jelly or something like that. It was delicious. The salad choice was great - arugula. The chocolate chip cookie dessert was also very good. Definitely will go again."
