I love Cajun cooking so when I saw
that Chef Tom was doing a Mardi Gras dinner I knew I had to go. We had the Louisiana Hot wings for an appetizer. Nice and meaty, hot and crispy, the sauce was not too spicy and had a little something in it to knock back the vinegar bite. Delicious! I had the Blackened Grouper which was also delicious. The rice under the fish, though it had good flavor was only lukewarm. My partner had the Sirloin Steak. She did not care much for the creole mustard sauce( not enough mustard) or the crab mashers (too fishy) but she did like the steak, which was perfectly cooked. Apparently our server was a fill-in and so service was lacking but all-in-all we enjoyed ourselves and will be back to enjoy the regular menu."

I didn't know this place was so
close to our house until Open Table showed it when I looked this weekend. Fantastic food, I especially loved the braised short rib and my Tavern Greens salad with some heavenly crispy cheese medallions. Our server was incredibly knowledgable about the food, and even suggested a beer that I loved. I will definitely go back."

The food was outstanding, the
service was knowledgeable and attentive. A must for those seeking an upscale food experience with fresh ingredients!"

What a gem! Everything else in the
Match Works has crashed and burned but this is a great spot with an excellent staff and a very nice menu. The ambiance is wonderful - very tasteful and comfortable. This will definitely be a regular stop from now on."

Great wine selection, specials
that really are, servers that treat you right and a host/owner that wants your evening to be a great experience. You can't ask for more. We will be making another reservation soon."

This restaurant is worth looking
for, as the setting is truly wonderful and service delightful. Our wine was a delicious surprise, and the food outstanding. Definitely a great choice."

We had dinner here because we were
given a gift certificate. The venue is wonderful - nicely decorated, spacious, you can carry on a conversation without raising your voice. However, our table by the window was chilly - I had to keep my jacket on for the whole meal. Food was good - in fact the braised lamb was a real hit with my husband, My pumpkin ravioli was delicious but came out of the kitchen lukewarm. I didn't send it back because I didn't want to wait - it was edible, but certainly would have been much better a little warmer. The appetizers - lobster bisque and a calamari special - were both excellent. Service was a little annoying because there was little coordination among servers. Too much repeat requests by different people."

We dined there one night before
attending a movie. Everything was excellent. We were in a bit of a hurry so decided we need to go back soon and just enjoy the evening there."

Slow service Food - I wouldn't go
back for it. (so-so) Pricey Nice Ambience Quiet"

We had dinner with our 17 year
old, 19 year old and her boyfriend on New Year's eve. Limited menu was not appealing to our son-everything served on top of mashed potatoes! Food was OK-nothing great. Restaurant not packed, so not sure why there wasn't a regular menu because nothing was out of this world special on the offered menu. Our server was not great-very personable, slow, and forgot my husband and I had not ordered ala carte, and we didn't get our salads which were part of the 4 course selection, so he did change it. Atmosphere pleasant, wine and bar list good. Good for a quiet dinner with friends I would say. Not sure if we would go again as it was nothing special."
Dined on 12/31/2013
The atmosphere was nice, the food
was very good, & our service was great too! We went in to try it out & would def. go back again! Nice for a special occasion too."

This review is long over due.
We've been fan's of the Quick's since the Epiq days and the good food and outstanding service continues at the Matchworks. From the cod to the steaks, everything here is outstanding."
Dined on 11/16/2013
We enjoyed our latest visit to
Match Works. Our meals were the the Lobster Ravioli and Onion soup and the Berkshire Pork Chop and Beet Salad. Both meals were delicious and presented well. This was perhaps the best meal we have had here."
Dined on 11/22/2013
It was so bad. Our appetizer of
crab cakes were the best part and that took 27 minutes. I could understand if they were busy but we were one of three tables. The food came out undersized, dry and cold. When we mentioned it they told us they would give us a VIP card for next time. We didn't take it because we won't ever be back."

I had the Elk and it was great!
The food here is consistently good. Always some live music on Friday, really good choice for a end of the week dinner."
Dined on 11/1/2013
Menu offered many diverse and
interesting choices. Service was prompt and helpful. Food tasted wonderful and more than met expectations."

Having just seen the movie "Haute
Cuisine" and watching 1-1/2 hours of great food being prepared and savored we were primed for our own. So, of course, we headed for Match Works Tavern. Friendly attentive service. My wife had two appetizers for her dinner, Escargot and Gnocchi in garlic butter sauce and crab cakes (the best in the area). I had Calamari Steak Piccata with tender calamari over delicious pasta. Homemade strawberry cassata cake topped off our visit. All outstanding. Tom Quick remains the best chef in Lake County and always worth the trip."
Dined on 10/5/2013
We enjoyed a wonderful lunch at
matchbox tavern. It far exceeded expectations. I had the chicken Caesar sandwich - I would definitely order again. My guest had the mushroom burger which was great as well. The ambience was so unique as it is an old factory. Next time we will try dinner and stay longer."

We decided to eat outside; there
were about 25 corvettes in the parking lot a large corvette; club was inside for a private party. It was a little chilly but the sunset and the corvettes were great ambiance! The weather screamed clam bake which is being featured through October for $25 we had chowder, Caesar salad and a dozen middle neck clams over pasta aglio-e-olio and we shared house made casatta cake and a bottle of Miomi Pinot Nior...all were excellent! We made reservations for the Clambake event they are hosting with Alex Bevan next week! Its usually not real busy when we go, it was nice to see a full house and every server stopped by our table outside away from everyone to check on us, the service was amazing!"

I have been craving Match Works
Tavern's crab cake all summer! I just got back from Baltimore and had one at the Market for $14 served on a paper plate and it just doesn't compare to the one I had on the patio in Mentor, Ohio for $12 with an Andouille and potato hash with an aioli that just puts it over the top. Everything else was great too;I just can't get over the crab cake! They make a potato crusted cod that will not be forgotten served over an Andouille-shrimp risotto...yum."

There were 4 of us and everyone
was very pleased with whatever they ordered. Our server was very attentive and accommodating. We will go there again."
Dined on 9/20/2013
The place was not busy at all.
They sat us and immediately we were hearing this crazy humming noise. They moved our table and it was better I guess their air conditioner was acting up. My husband ordered a beer which he never got. Service was very slow seems like they had one waitress and she couldn't keep up. They said they had a new menu and I ordered a meal but got an appetizer which they did correct. However the food was just so so. I don't think we will re visit the restaurant."
Dined on 9/7/2013
Attentive and pleasant maitre'd
who found us a table on beautiful Northeast Ohio evening right in front of Alex Bevan who sang and played up a storm with the trains and a spectacular sunset providing a perfect backdrop. The clams and pasta were great on a cool Summer evening. That Quick's have done it again!"

was fantastic. Wine list great. food great."

Enjoyed a relaxing evening with a
good friend with her favorite crab cakes-best she's ever had. Good wine choices as well. Nice, quiet place so we could talk and the server was very attentive. Didn't kick us out at closing time."

Brian and I wanted to take this
opportunity to extend a huge thanks to both of you and all of your staff for a fabulous Rehearsal Dinner! The setting, the service and the food were all exceptional! You would not believe the number of people who came up to us all throughout the weekend to rave about what a great time they had and how wonderful the food was! You certainly hit a home run! Several of Stacy's family members from the Cleveland area commented that they had not been to Match Works before but would certainly be coming back!! Enjoy the rest of the summer! Again, thank you SO much for all you did - It was a great start to what turned out to be the magical weekend they'd dreamed it would be. You played a huge part in kicking that off!"

Great place for couples to enjoy
their conversation along with their meal in a comfortable setting with attentive servers. Fish dinners (most recently, potato encrusted cod) have never disappointed and the salads are excellent. A good selection of wines are available."
Dined on 7/6/2013
The menu options and the food
preparations result in excellent meals. The decor needs a major updating."

I had not been here for years.
Nice surprise . My prime rive was tasty even if it was not the rare I asked for. My wife loved the short ribs. Beet salad was more salad than beets, by far. Mussels special were good. Nice portion. Server was very attentive. The place just needs some update. Nice live music. All the basics are here. Lot of promise just needs a polish."

We have eaten here, and at Tom's
previous restaurant (Epiq), and always had great food and service. Special at this visit was Julia Child's Beef Bourguignon, the same recipe Julie struggled with in the movie...Tom nailed it. He's one of the best chefs in the Cleveland area and this is a gem in Lake County. Highly recommend."
Dined on 5/25/2013
ok each time we go, we may not go
back. Went for Mothers Day brunch, and soup was not very warm, then entrée wasn't great. Crème Brule was good."

Chef Tom Quick never disappoints!
Excellent meal! We were treated like family from the moment we arrived until we left. Everywhere else is just dinner, Matchworks Tavern is a Dining Experience!"

Very unique setting (in an old
match factory). The food is very good; the menu appears limited but there are always multiple specials. Very enjoyable place for dinner."
Dined on 4/12/2013
Our meal was excellent, the best
meal that we have had in Mentor in a long while. I would recommnend the Match Works Tavern to anyone."
Dined on 4/12/2013
The food was really good. the only
slight downfall was the host and our server. they both seemed to give the impression that they were confused which was somewhat odd. Our server was very nice, but was not always on top of things. Besides that, everything else was very good."
Dined on 3/31/2013
Went for Easter Brunch. An
excellent dining experience. Crab cakes were better than I've had in Maryland! Will definitely be back."
Dined on 3/31/2013
Went here to celebrate a birthday
and was not disappointed. The staff was kind enough to put a candle in a delicious chocolate moose as a surprise for the other half. Definitely a must go. Possibly one of the best places to eat in Mentor."
